  1. Hi all Well today i have been busy all day cutting the wood for the town scene. Below are the before and after photos although the woodwork is not finished yet. The shelves will not be staying there as they will be fitted to the underneath of the layout.
  2. Hi John All i did was cut away the old couplings and just glued the NEM couplings on top of the bogie plate. You could glue below as well.
  3. Also today i finally managed to get round to finishing off the Hornby HHA coal wagons. They were all taken apart and repainted with new larger buffers added and Carrs coal added to the inside of the hoppers. NEM couplings were also added as these wagons are from the railroad range and had the large over sized couplings so i cut them away and added the NEM. All that is needed now is to weather the whole rake and i then have a full rake of merry go round hoppers.
  4. Today i sent some time going over the weathering on both the Arriva class 57 and the BR blue class 25 as i was not happy with them. Both models still need attention but here is how they look so far.
  5. Those of you that guessed a class 33 got it right. Yes another class 33 to add to my already large list of 33's. But this one i had to get as it is a hard one to come by as it is the distribution sector livery and i have wanted one for so long and now i have my hands on one. I got it from the weathering works and it was them that gave it a coat of grime and i have to say they did a brilliant job of it too.
  6. Yes i love this hobby too....i have my moments where i just cannot be bothered with it all but i end up going back to it...and with more enthusiasm....i have been in the zone over the last month or so...so i am taking advantage of it to try and get as much work done on the layout as possible until i end up hitting a brick wall which will no doubt happen soon lol.
  7. Hi all Today i received a new loco.....can you all guess what it is?
  8. The Colas locos look very smart mate...i did fancy some colas locos but i am shying away from most modern trains now as i only seem to have a passion for the 80's 90's stock and all my modern stuff just sits on a shelf....i have even thought of selling all my modern stuff.
  9. Lol yeah i'm sure i have heard that somewhere before too lol. But i can get completely lost in the loft all day watching the trains go by without even knowing where the time has gone lol. The layout is not the biggest at only 10ft x 18ft but more than enough to keep me busy and entertained with so much work going on at the moment.
  10. Well the idea was to make three separate scenic sections so they would look like separate layouts and i think i have achieved that. I am starting on the town section behind the desk this week then onto the scenic fiddle yard after on the far side.
  11. She's a nice bit of kit but i'm running out of space for it in the loft now.
  12. And some scenic shots to finish off with.
  13. I thought i would upload some aerial views of the layout.
  14. Today i ordered a load of sheets of MDF to be cut ready for collection as this will be used to build the town/residential area at the back of the desk as you can see in the photo. I have a plan in my head to add some rather large shelving above the town scene for all my paints etc as well as rolling stock. That is the plan anyway but unsure how i am going to go about it yet. Work commences this coming friday so i should have some photos of the work to share with you all.
  15. Hi all Today i managed to get round to adding the Glebe Road lettering on the platform footbridge....this has been on the to do list for a long time but now its ticked off the list.
  16. Well on the class 20 and 26 i completely covered the sides of the locos in a thick coat of sleeper grime and frame dirt and let it dry solid then scrub it with T-CUT then rub most of it off with a micro pen and this is what you finish off with. obviously the under frame and roof as well as other parts need attention too.
  17. Another shot of the class 26 i re weathered yesterday.
  18. I also sent some time adding some ground signals around the TMD.
  19. Hi all Today i spent some time sorting out the weathering on the class 20 as i just was not happy with how it looked. Most of the photos i found on the internet of this loco showed the front of the cab being completely filthy.
  20. Hi all Today i spent some time going over my old class 26 Railfreight red stripe. I just did not like the weathering job i did on it as it was one of my first attempts at weathering and it just did not look good enough so i gave the model a wash with some T-CUT first to try and remove some of the old paint and then went about scrubbing it with a micro brush and got rid of most of the paint but left some around edges and corners and then done a little more weathering to it so it now looks like it represents something more realistic. Whilst i was taking photos of it i took the chance to take a lot of photos of other locos around the layout and post them along with the class 26 so enjoy.
  21. Hi all This weekend i have decided to take the plunge and make a start on the electrical work that is so badly needed on the layout but as most of you all know i hate electrics and always leave it until last. I have started work on the street and building lights on the new arches scenery but that is still a work in progress. I have also worked hard on fitting the signal heads to the overhead gantry as you can see from the photos. The gantry is almost complete and all that's left to do is paint the multi coloured wires that can be seen by hand with black paint.
  22. She is a beast ain't she....i am sad to see her go but at least i know she has gone to a good home. Cheers Shaun and enjoy!!!
  23. Your very welcome mate and i'm glad you like the loco. I am going to take a gander at your photos now mate.
  24. Nice one Richard...glad you are enjoying the new job. I too lost my job a few weeks back and are now doing something completely different to what i have been for the last 23 years and i too feel free and relieved as i now only work three days a week and earn just as much if not more money so i now have more time to work on the layout.
