  1. Love the grease units Neil...what did you make them out of as i want to give it a go.
  2. Ohhh i want, i want. Where from mate?
  3. Hi all Since completing the Plasser Tamper i decided to crack on with the Hornby HAA wagons. I went about taking the wagons apart so i could replace the buffers with larger ones and then respray the red frames into railfreight red. The hoppers then had a plate of plastikard added just below the rim and then Carrs fine coal was sprinkled on and glued. This is still a work in progress as i have fifteen wagons to do in total so it will take some time to complete. I then have to change the couplings from the large ones into something smaller. And once all wagons are fixed back together they all need to be weathered.
  4. There is a certain distance but i cannot remember what it is. Tape a pencil to the rear corner of a coach and drag the coach along to draw the line of which the platform should sit.
  5. Smashing work as per usual Dave....but do they sell my favorite alcohol tho lol. Terry
  6. Just see a video of the layout at the exhibition on youtube and have to say it looks smashing mate and is a credit to you. Terry
  7. Thanks Richard....yes it is a load of my shoulders and i am very glad it is now more or less finished but i now have the HAA's to be getting on with but still need to get the coal loads before work commences.
  8. Hi Jason First of all i want to thank you for following my layout progress mate and no i am not entering it as i did not know there was a competition of that kind on RMWEB so where could i find out more as i think it would be a good opportunity? Terry
  9. Calm down Dave don't get to excited we dont want you exploding now do we lol. But i agree it's an amazing kit as it is not something you see very often. I think i will motorize it one day but for now it can just look pretty sitting in the siding.
  10. Thanks a lot mate...the tamper does look good don't it but it did take me long enough to build. It is right up there with my best locos i own now.
  11. Well at the moment i have just fitted bogies from an old wagon just so it can go on the layout but they are easily removed if and when i get the motorized bogies.
  12. Hi all Well after around seven months of building the tamper unit it is now more or less finished. It has now been weathered and varnished and all it needs now are the hand rails to be cut painted and fitted so here is the final product. I highly recommend this Plasser Tamper from Clockwork Ideas...it is very involved as well as time consuming and can be very difficult at times but if like me you like rail maintenance vehicles then this is very much for you.
  13. Cheers Jinty.....i am looking forwards to finishing it too as it's been on the work bench for over six months and i have so much other work on the layout to be getting on with but there should not be too many hours work left on it hopefully. I am stuck on the bogies whether to pay out £65 for the beetle bogies or just take some bogies off an old wagon and just fix them on instead and just have it as a feature in a siding and just add headlights and orange flashing lights on top.
  14. Yeah that sound about right although the first one may longer as it has for me and i must have another six hours or so left.
  15. Blimey you have your hands full with two models...this one has taken me around six months so far on and off. I am thinking of getting another one tho as the kit is superb. The only advice i have is read the instructions very carefully as this kit is very involved and one mistake along the way will put a halt to further developments. Also if you can get away with painting each part you build before fixing it to the model it will save time and it won't be as difficult to paint once completed. Other than that mate just have fun building it as i have.
  16. A closer look at the tamping machinery and you can see the decals better in these shots. I have also sprayed the roof into a darker grey. Once the varnish has been added and all cabs completed i then need to add both bogies along with the fixing in the tamping engine into the center of the model as well as the operator cab which are both built ready to go in. And then last but not least the model has to then visit the weathering bench. I am very impressed with this model and are very happy with how it has turned out so far. Let me know your thoughts on the model so far guys.
  17. As you can see from these pictures the buffer beam parts were hand painted as well as the chevron lines which took time and patience. The cab interiors and glass still need to be added but only once the model receives a coat of varnish as i am currently adding the decals.
  18. Hi all Well here is the latest progress on the tamper unit. The unit has had around six coats of yellow and then had the blue band added around the bottom which may need painting again as i think it came out a few shades to dark. All the under frame and mechanical parts were hand painted.
  19. Well the tamper has now received four coats of yellow but i think it could do with one more coat of paint and then hand paint the other parts before i add the decals which i should hopefully get done this weekend.
  20. Thanks Dave....i think the tamper would look right at home on Minsterly mate and urge you to get one (it's a must). Terry
  21. Thanks for the comments guys and hopefully i should have more to show on the model next weekend as i start a new job tomorrow trying something completely different to what i have been doing for the past 22 years but i need to do something to pay the bills lol. Shaunthesheep- you should give the kit a go although it is very complex it is a fantastic kit and well worth the effort. Anthony566- the kit is from Clockwork ideas and you should be able to get one from DC Kits or from the Realtrack model stand at exhibitions. The kit cost £120 with everything except the motor bogies which cost a further £65. Clockwork have a thread here on RMWEB you should check it out.
  22. Yeah good mate, yourself? just added some new photos of my progress on the tamper.
