The Ist class and Buffet coaches with lighting in blue/grey, now in stock at Hornby, No's R4633, R4633a, R4594. Just ordered one of each to give me a 9 car HST set. I have also taken a look at adding a couple of extra leds into the standard open with lights. Bought a 12v 5m strip of warm white leds. They can be split into strips of three, so I cut three off and then carefully cut one led with resistor off this and extended it with wires so I could put a extend the lighting bar at both ends. Unfortunately the only place I could connect the wires to power these extra led's was across the capacitor. There appears to be a voltage regulator in the circuit after the capacitor and the voltage supplied to the led's appears to be only 3 volts. The extra led's look OK but fade quicker than the rest when power removed. I may look at adding a resistor into the circuit so they done fade quite as quick. Will post some photos later.

Not too worried about the the mix of numbering at the moment with my set, will look at re-numbering once I have a full rake. The disappointing thing with the WR Power cars is the cool white lights when running forward, would have thought warm white would be more appropriate for the era, can't remember them being that white in the eighties. I couldn't resist it. I popped in to get a track rubber and a copy of Railway Modeller from my local model shop and saw that the Eastern region version of the TGS with lights had arrived. Only one in stock so though what the hell and bought it. Pleased to report no light bleed through the roof. Now really must stop buying stock (except when the restaurant and 1st class coaches arrive with lights). Have to save my money so I can start buying new track, new layout needed to run all the new stock I now have!

So the power cars arrived today R3138 for Hattons, a steal at £160 I think. Got all of the MK3's out and as I suspected no light bleed through the roof from the standard class coaches. Email from Hornby yesterday says the TGS coaches with lighting have arrived. May get one of these and sell the non lit coach or may make up a second rake without lights to run with my old power cars!

To be honest I haven't noticed any, but then again was really looking closely for that. The standard open and first class coaches have an all in one body/roof so there should really be any as they look like black moulded plastic. the TGS coach with lighting may suffer from light bleed if it is the all in one glazing/roof piece as i am led to believe. At the moment they are all packed away, but have just ordered a set of blue/yellow power cars which should arrive before the weekend so will take a look then.

One thing I forgotten about until I opened all five new MK3's to put them on the track was that the TGS and First class coaches came with an extra pair of slimmer NEM couplings albeit without hooks. The standard coaches with lights did not.

Doing further investigations whilst removing the buffers the first and second class coaches appear to be the same tooling i.e. open up in the same fashion, push fit buffers and have the same layout inside. The TGS is indeed from a different set of toolings with moulded buffers and I have at present been unable to remove the body to look inside. Has anybody yet managed to open one of the TGS MK3's ? If so I would love to know how as I don't seem to see away without damage.

Took a visit to my local model shop (Model railways direct) for some tracksetta guides today and noticed and the new Standard blue/grey MK3 coaches with lighting had just arrived selling at £32.85 each, so bought three of them - running numbers E42124, E42125 and E42126. E42123 was also in stock. They work on DCC straight out the box, but unfortunately no switch so the lights remain on all the time as long as there is power to the tracks. I have taken one apart so you can see the insides. the capacitor keeps the light illuminated for a second or two after the power is removed so they shouldn't suffer from too much flickering. Having now run them I could see no flickering at all when running across points or slightly dirty sections. Only one bogies has pick ups, but the other has the pips in place so additional picks could possibly be fitted if available? reassembled coach now have a photo with lights on- Apologies for the quality -still getting used to new camera! my views on the lighting. 1. not all windows illuminated on a standard open coach 2. not really visible with room lights on (can see reflection on windows surrounds at certain angles I don't personally think they are too bright, but does show up the two coaches that don't have lights. May have to invest in some lighting for them!

Just noticed this thread I purchased the R4444A first class open and R4446A guards standard just recently and both have the tinted glazing Looking from above down on the coaches the glazing appears quite dark but when you look at them at window level you can see through the window on the other side. Hello Richard Welcome to the forum. I have been following your You Tube channel for a couple of years now and have been very impressed. In one of your videos last year you showed how you were controlling your signals using picaxe chips. I have been hoping ever since that you might do a more in depth video as to how these are programmed and constructed. Is this something you may consider doing?

What brilliant timing as they have just appeared in Model Rail this month as a New Item!

I bought a bottle of the railmatch 2206 acrylic Rail Grey and I thought exactly the same. When I put it along side a Hornby MK4 coach it was a perfect match for the beige on the swallow livery!
