  1. might be worth looking through the following thread. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80395-Bachmann-36-557-cv-values/
  2. The following info is taken from the decoder profile for TTS decoders in JMRI. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been updated since May 2017 so all the recent decoders are not listed, but hopefully should be of some help to someone. Version 1.2, update to include more recent TTS releases and product ID numbers, May/June 2016 From now on, product IDs follow numeric form, used by Hornby in their documentation. Code change in JMRI to allow automatic identification on CV159 (product number) added to make use of these numbers. Version 1.3 - update to differentiate between 2P & 9F, based on a composite productID of CV159(low) & CV158(high). May 2017 Version 1.4 - update to replace "Hornby TTS A4 4-6-0" with "Hornby TTS A4 4-6-2" (typo). May 2017 Product ID's: Class 37 = 147 (and "Cl37" label carried over from v1.1) Class 40 = 151 Class 47 = 149 Class 66 = 153 Duke of Gloucester = 131 (and "DoG" label carried over from v1.1) Flying Scotsman = 137 Fowler 2P = 2703 (CV159=143, CV158 = 10) 9F 2-10-0 = 655 (CV159=143, CV158 = 2) 4F 0-6-0 = 145 A4 Mallard & Gadwall = 135
  3. Some very good advice in the posts above but so far no one has mentioned the Hornby R8213 which is the Hornby Select and is a very basic controller. If you haven't already take a look at the following thread for more info. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/136310-Hornby-select-dcc-r8213/
  4. For the Power Cab NCE produce the SB5 5 amp smart booster which basically converts it to a pro system. Essentially the booster is the command station and power cab becomes a controller. This give the option to add UTP panels so that you can unplug the power cab and move it to another socket elsewhere on the layout without effecting the movement of locos or any sounds from locos. You can also then use EB1 circuit breakers which can't be used with the power cab alone and will give you extra protection. Only downside is the SB5 doesn't have a programming track output so you would need to keep you original power cab panel and have it connected to a programming track.
  5. Got home tonight to find my copy on the door mat. I used to look forward my subscription copy dropping onto the door mat so I could watch the layout features on the latest cover DVDs. but lately I have been getting more and more disappointed. Sorry but got to have a moan. This months layout feature on Oakley Green was good but a little short at 4 minutes 30 secs and didn't really have much time to give the layout the justice it deserved. The whole main video was only 31 minutes and over half of that was spent building a couple of wagons! Yes I know its a freebie, but the resolution of the video seemed to be a lot poorer than normal and in comparison to the preview video on You tube, it was like watching it in 360P. I've watched VHS recordings that had a sharper picture! Please give a little more space on the DVD to the layouts. At the moment only just over half the space on the DVD is actually used so adding extra few minutes for the layout features is not going to mean the other items suffer unless its an additional financial cost to make a slightly longer video.
  6. Apart from one having an 8 pin plug on a harness and the other having the pins on the decoder I don't think there is any difference. They both share the same manual and the Lenz website shows common details for all silver decoders. as shown below Overview of the common features of SILVER + locomotive decoders: RailCom capable, RailCom function already set at the factory ABC technology from Lenz high-frequency control of the engine speed Motor current duration / peak: 1 / 1.8 A (SILVER mini + 0.5 / 0.8 A) SILVER mini +: two function outputs , each capable of handling 300 mA Total load capacity of all F outputs: 300 mA SILVER +, SILVER + PluX-12, SILVER + direct, SILVER + 21: five F outputs each 500 mA loadable Total load capacity of all F outputs: 500 mA All SILVER +: function outputs time-controlled switchable (eg for remote-controlled couplings) Outputs naturally short-circuit protected drive with 2- and 4-digit addresses of course also in multiple traction automatic detection digital / analog operation Shunting I don't have a silver+. I mainly use standard plus and silver 21 decoders, but do have one silver direct and the manufacturer id is 99 (cv8) and the decoder type is 98 (cv7) edited to add the decoder id etc.
  7. Popped in this afternoon and had an enjoyable few hours. A good selection of layouts, seems to keep getting better each year. Always worth a visit!
  8. just looked at the Lenz silver 21 pin manual and it has pin 16 as common. pin 15 is shown as a function output
  9. I usually use Lenz standard+ decoders in my locos and have used one in my Heljan class 27 without any issues.
  10. One thing that's not been mentioned so far is a reset of the chip. I once lost all the sound on a TTS Chip but had full control of the motor, resetting CV8 cured the problem Writing 8 to CV 8 will reset the chip to factory setting whilst writing 5 to CV 8 resets all the volume levels but leaves all non sound related CV's untouched.
  11. Luckily my class 56 was close to hand so I was able to remove the body to take a look. The PCB inside it has exactly the same part number as your PCB so I was able to note all the connections. you are correct with A and B being for the motor and the connections to the motor correspond to the connections on the PCB Using your picture in the opening post and using the DCC socket end of the PCB to denote the rear of the loco the connections are as follows: DCC socket end 1 = Rear Lights 2 = Common 3 = Red wire Rail on Left side of PCB 4 = Black wire Rail on Right side of PCB 6 = Front Lights Other end 1 = Front Lights 2 = Common 3 = Red wire Rail on Left side of PCB 4 = Black wire Rail on Right side of PCB 6 = Rear lights Note 5 is not used at either end the cathode (shorter leg) of the led goes to the common connection. Hope this helps.
  12. I have fitted Lenz standard + decoders into my two class 58's.
  13. which CV's are you trying to change? From memory with the Hornby R8249 you can only change CV's 1, 2, 4, 17, 18 and 29. Trying to read any other CV's will result in the cannot read error.
  14. This has always been one of my favourite layouts on You Tube. Sorry to see it go, but looking forward to seeing the new and improved Everard Junction take shape.
  15. Hi Charlie I will be popping up to the Warley show on Saturday and wondered if it would be possible to have a couple of locos reblown whilst at the show? The two in question are a Bachmann Deltic which I believe has a LS V3.5 decoder and a Class 20 with a LS V4 decoder. If so is it better to bring the locos or just the chips? Thanks Brian
  16. Chris Higgs, on 03 Nov 2016 - 12:04, said: All the more reason for them to subscribe to preserving one. Does the third-rail capability on these units still function? Given they possess overhead as well, we could use them on Thameslink! Chris I thought one already had been saved after seeing this at the NRM in August 2016
  17. Richard Congratulations on having your layout in print, well deserved. You have passed on so much information through your 'how to videos' over the years on You Tube and for that I thank you. Please keep the videos coming, I always look forward to seeing another video posted. Brian
  18. Top of the list 32-038DS Class 20 20124 weathered is a V4 decoder. Just bought this yesterday.
  19. I think this is what you are looking for Update 01/11/2014 the bit you're after starts around 14:30 "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c73SCFOrL4o:
  20. I am now the owner of both TTS locos having ordered the 37 on Wednesday evening from Rails of Sheffield for £74.95 plus £4 postage. Got to hand it to Hornby both are worth buying for the sound alone. Might now have to buy the Class 47 when it arrives! Gonna leave it a couple of months, then I think they may need a trip to the paint shop to reappear in blue livery.
  21. Hats of to Hornby, they have restored my faith a little. I contacted them today as I noticed that they were still showing the TTS Class 40 as in stock so I was a little checky and asked whether they could sent the class 40 instead. The young lady wasn't sure if it was possible but put me on hold whilst she enquired. She came back with a yes, so a class 40 is winging it's way to me, even had an email from UKmail to say they have received it at their depot for delivery tomorrow. Hopefully will receive it tomorrow. Would have preferred the class 37 although it would have needed a respray, but would probably bought the class 40 anyway so will wait till the main batch arrives at the end of Feb and see if i can be lucky then.
  22. Still haven't received this yet. sent an email last Friday to customer services and received a reply today: "Thank you for your email, I have looked into this for you and the order left us on 25/01/15 and seems to be lost in the postal /courier system and has not reached you. I have therefore ordered you a replacement but these will not be in until the end of Feb, and as soon as they arrive one will be sent out to you. We apologise for the problem with your goods." Looks like an excuse to me. They've already got my money and looks like a bit of a wait to receive it. Maybe the last time I buy direct from Hornby. Looking at my orders on the website both this an the previous order in October both say being processed!
  23. Couldn't resist buying one of theses. It will be my first sound fitted loco. Not suitable for the era that I prefer modeling so definitely needs to visit the paint shop. When I placed my order there were 5 left on the Hornby website, in the time it took to complete payment the other 4 were also sold. Now shows out of stock.
  24. Have just joined and downloaded the app. At first it seemed sluggish on the throttle - using dcc concepts decoder I swapped to a loco with a lenz decoder and seemed a lot better. directional lighting has an immediate response. I'm using a galaxy tab 3 7" with kitkat 4.4.2 JMRI is version 3.8 No crashes so far, will be adding all my loco to decoder pro tomorrow so will give a good test tomorrow. edited to add JMRI Version
