And here it is hard wired into my Mogul..............................................

How about flogging your 4mm stuff as there will never be a sweet running GWR Auto-tank in 4mm..... You now have a brilliant 7mm Auto- trailer from Dapol and yes they are about to produce a 7mm Auto tank which will perform brilliantly. All ready to pre order from Hattons...... I think that completes the circle........... Johnny Rosspop

Craftsman 0-4-4T LMS 1P Kit build
ROSSPOP replied to ianLMS's topic in Kitbuilding & Scratchbuilding
Hi Ian Sounds to me you have pickup issues as DCC is exceptionally sensitive . Keep it all simple. I use phosphur bronze strip trimmed and shaped with a slitting disc.and then `dimpled` at the working end. I find using phosphur bronze strip promotes very strong contact with the wheel tread with minimal `braking` effect. you can then use gloss black paint as insulation. john -
What a service !! Sound decoder purchased online yesterday 16.27hrs Delivered this morning at 09.32hrs....... Johnny Rosspop

Craftsman 0-4-4T LMS 1P Kit build
ROSSPOP replied to ianLMS's topic in Kitbuilding & Scratchbuilding
Very nice Ian, The Craftsman 1P kit has always been a favourite of mine on and off for the past 30 years.and I was sad to let mine go.(so I replaced with a 7mm version) Check out Lanarkshire Models and Supplies website for 4mm replacement details , buffers and vac pipes etc...... I have a thing about detailing buffer beams properly if you can. Cheers John -
Blackening locomotive steel driving wheels
ROSSPOP replied to Ruston's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
I`m afraid both of these comments get a `total twaddle` from me........................................................ If you use the right quality products (and of course do it properly) there is no change in resistance or performance. The first I ever did...................................................... and my very recent last loco kit............................. ...no change in Ammeter readings before or after...................... Blackening locomotive steel driving wheels
ROSSPOP replied to Ruston's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Hi I`ve been blackening loco wheels in 4mm and now 7mm for years. Providing you use quality products and clean wheels and anything else you want to blacken it is very successful. Birchwood Casey Super Blue is best for steel wheels. it will help if you use Electrofix as a final finish but not too much. Chemical blackening does not impede electrical pickups at all. John -

Bachmann 45xx with a Zimo MX623R decoder HELP
ROSSPOP replied to chuffinghell's topic in DCC Help & Questions
Crikey Chris I`ve never seen Bachmann wheels with such malnourished wheel rim backs But so long as your pickups touch the shiny area or even stay on the very edge of the wheel rim. John -

Looking good But you mention early on that you intend to go DCC Quality decoders have `electronic `flywheels` so why are you bothering with 1960`s technology ????? cheers John -

ROSSPOP replied to chuffinghell's topic in DCC Help & Questions
It will default to the sound file default. just make a note of very CV default you are experimenting with as you go along. CV8=8 will always restore. May the forefinger be with you.................................. CV3BO -

Bachmann 45xx with a Zimo MX623R decoder HELP
ROSSPOP replied to chuffinghell's topic in DCC Help & Questions
I`ve only ever used Zimo decoders in both 4mm and now 7mm They really are the Bee`s Gonads for motor control............................. For Bachmann and Hornby I used to tweek these........................ CV 9 default is 55 usually and the range is 01 - 99 ....................... try changing to 83, 85, 87, 44, 33, 22 you can always revert bach to default CV 56 default 55.................... range is 01 - 99....................for jerky movement try changing to 33, 77, 71,73............. My Bachmann class 3 ran better on 45 Then save you pennies up to £160 and get an NCE system your transformation to the dark Side DCC will then be complete...................... Johnny -
Bachmann 45xx with a Zimo MX623R decoder HELP
ROSSPOP replied to chuffinghell's topic in DCC Help & Questions
Hi First of all is your track clean and are your loco driver wheels clean. Second you need to check that the pickups are functioning correctly on all wheels. sometimes DC operations with dodgy pickups is more forgiving than DCC which is VERY sensitive to poor functioning pickups. Changing CV`s is easy but not if you are operating with a `toy` DCC system. What is yours? Zimo decoders like yours are the very best and they usually tune themselves to Bachmann motors(occasionally you need to tweak a few CV`s) My Bachmann Jinty was awkward. Johnny Rosspop -
Well tis` all done. She left the paint shop on Friday and just needed the cab details painted up Then Saturday saw the arrival of her etched No and builders plates from Severnmill products. Not one of my absolute best builds and there were a lot of self inflicted problems along the way. But she does look the bizz.... Any how , this month is a ten year anniversary of joining the Gauge O Guild. In 2008 I purhased a brass RTR GWR Pannier Tank from Tower Models. She looked lovely....at first but I soon fell out of love with her over quite a few issues I could not accept. So I painted her up in Wartime livery and sold her on. Ten years later I`ve finally replaced her............................. She`s a bit of a `rocker` on the rolling road which I think is due to a rogue Slaters driver as the rock is much less noticeable on the track but nevertheless has been there right from the very beginning of the chassis build. Cheers Johnny Rosspop

In 7mm modelling we use 4mm oo/ho decoders (Zimo MX 645 for example). These are more than adequate in this scale if you are using modern motors.( Mashima, Sagami, Canon, Maxon etc) I also use a couple of quality Japanese 5 pole KTM motors from the 1970`s. BUT you need to know the stall current draw of each of your locos in 7mm modelling to make sure the amps drawn do not exceed the maximum limit of the decoder usually 2.5amps. Most of my locos draw 0.8 to 1amp on stall so will not blow the decoder when pulling heavy loads. Cheers john

I did consider putting a speaker in the bunker, but that should have been planned for earlier in the construction. So after deliberations I settled for in between the chassis frames. Thankyou to the sugar cube !!!!! I simply made a couple of plasticard platforms...................................... As Zimo decoders have protective covers I will disguise things further with black paint.

Oih! That`s P4 your talking about there......................................... But I prefer O Gauge these days..................................................
