  1. Morning, Sunshine here but strong winds still prevail, leaves all over the place but no point in clearing up as they are forecast to be present until late tomorrow night. The shed needs a bit of a tidy up and then I will clean the tracks and run some trains I think. Why? For is it not written “those who can, do; those who can’t, teach and those that can do neither go into HR” As I spent a spell as European HR Director for a large pharmaceutical company that quote is a load of bulls**t along the lines that any Dr who works for a Pharma company is a failed medic who cannot relate to patients and has low interpersonal skills. We all have our opinions sometimes its best to keep them to oneself. Moving on enjoy the rest of the day and be safe
  2. Lovely pictures Kevin as always!
  3. Afternoon, dry and sunny but with 50km winds apparently. Leaves all over the place and trees bending! My scheduled journey to the tip takes place later on this afternoon having made an appointment on line. These were in 30 min slots so I will be interested to see if its one person/car per slot. I can't use different skips ie wood/metal etc. Everything is bagged up for the Non recyclable skip, I reckon it will take me around 8 mins max to unload so we will see what transpires. As for job titles having spent time working for an American company I just smiled at the titles and all the acronyms that followed. Having the title of Executive Vice President did not really mean a lot, nor did some of the others printed on my business cards over the years. It did seem though that fancy job titles were the in thing. Maybe I should get some business cards made saying Executive Financial Director Shedman Towers whereupon my other half can simply have Boss lol! Enjoy the rest of your day
  4. Morning, The sun is starting to shine though we have a breeze and a rain shower is forecast for later, a part lazy day today again though I need to get stuff ready for taking to the local tip tomorrow. Ours opened on Monday but you have to make an appointment for a half hour time slot The guidance states you have to empty your car yourself hmm never been offered help! Regarding house bin collection no difference here to pre lockdown including garden waste. Just had Tom from DPD deliver a order of fish from Cornwall the order being placed yesterday, Cod/Hake/Plaice and I treated myself to some Lobster which accompanied by a nice glass of white burgundy will go down well! I am hardly likely to be going to a restaurant in the near future so what the hell! Marmite not for me I am afraid, don't mind peanut butter but don't go on the hunt for it. So enjoy your day folks
  5. Morning, sun is shining and breakfast which is being cooked will be enjoyed outside. Plans for the day = not a lot just a bit of pottering about and time in the shed. Enjoy your day as I will mine
  6. Afternoon, Car dealership visited and software update completed, took about an hour which was not so bad. Sanitise hands on entering, place key in plastic bag, key then sprayed and passed to mechanic, keys sprayed and placed in plastic bag for return to myself when job completed. Car steering wheel was wiped etc before return. Whilst I was waiting one gentleman left after having his car sorted, they then sprayed and washed the chair down he had been sat on and presumably the same occurred when I left. All together quite painless! Stopped raining just light grey cloud here hoping the sun makes an entrance at some point. Enjoy the rest of the day
  7. Morning, rain overnight (welcome) just grey outside at the moment with a promise of sunshine later this afternoon. As we went into lockdown I received a recall notice for my car re a software update, now the garage service side is open I am booked in for 11am this morning for this to take place. Should take about an hour apparently. So shortly I will be venturing out for this which means I am excused the shopping trip with other half. I will be back later Enjoy your day!
  8. Afternoon, Pleased to say it's raining and has been for the last three hours, a steady drizzle type of rain which the garden really needs. Saves me get the sprinkler out for the lawns particularly the front one which has sun on it most of the day. The shed and you know what beckons but a final thought for the day An Obituary printed in the London Times... Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isn't always fair; - And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, -by his parents, Truth and Trust, -by his wife, Discretion, -by his daughter, Responsibility, -and by his son, Reason. He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers; - I Know My Rights - I Want It Now - Someone Else Is To Blame - I'm A Victim - Pay me for Doing Nothing Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing. Enjoy your day folks
  9. Morning re the above its the same here! Thus gardening jobs will be taking place later on today than planned. As I need to go for petrol for the lawnmower I will at the same time fill my car up, 99.9p a litre hmm hope it stays at that price for a while. Otherwise all quiet, time to have a look at the paper with a nice bacon and egg sandwich x2 lots of energy needed for todays tasks! Enjoy your day and be safe
  10. Morning, lazy morning today, yesterday we got up early and went to one our favourite places for a 8 mile circular walk and had a nice picnic with great view over the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. On our walk ( flat ie not up a mountain) we did not see anybody and it was so peaceful and just nice to see different scenery for a change. The lawns need mowing but that can wait till the weekend I think, thankfully no need to visit the shops until next week so all good in my book a stay at home weekend is planned ie life as normal! Enjoy your day
  11. Afternoon, Firstly ignore the above not sure how to get rid of the quote box!! Didn't press anything honestly guv! All well here and a good productive day in the shed has taken place and now a large G&T beckons, I realised years ago that in other parts of RMWeb there are a large number of to put it simply idiots! There is no point engaging with these people and as put earlier they seem to have ignored Early Risers, Long may it continue! Enjoy your evening and stay safe
  12. Morning, Rain here more of a drizzle actually but it has stopped and the sun is starting to breakthrough the clouds. A tidy up of the garage beckons which should occupy me for the morning, a couple of minor jobs to the layout are required but not sure I am in the right frame of mind to tackle them. We will see, if it does brighten up maybe a walk this afternoon instead. Whatever you decide to do enjoy your day.
  13. Morning, grey with slight drizzle along with a gusty breeze here in this part of the sunny northwest. I will add that its not warm and thats the weather dealt with. The shed beckons a few things will be run in a world that is free of any virus and people can board the trains to go to work and on holiday. At some point reality will return but I will enjoy my escapism while it lasts. No jobs to do it promises to be a relaxing day. Enjoy yours
  14. Morning, sun is shining and a warm day beckons, a few odd light tasks today outside, saving the shed tasks till tomorrow which according to the experts will see the temperature drop by half! Enjoy your day
  15. Evening, my dad would never talk in any detail about the war, after he passed away we found a diary he had kept during the hostilities which was informative however it ended abruptly in early 1945. According to my mum he had been involved in the liberation of Belsen and he told my mum it would haunt him forever and he never wished to discuss it again. My uncle was rescued at Dunkirk and he suffered mental issues for a long time apparently. Ive just had the sprinkler on my front one which has the sun blasting it for most of the day! Enjoy what's left of the day
  16. Afternoon, well jobs finished so about to go for a shower and then sit in the garden with a G&T. The LUFTHANSA acronym made me laugh, I came to the conclusion some years ago flying American Airlines that to be a stewardess for transatlantic flights you had to be over 55 and internal 50 or maybe I was just unfortunate on those flights. As I said before flights anywhere are going to be a long time coming I think, couple of comments above re a vaccine which I agree with more likely to see Father Xmas than a vaccine at Xmas. Anyway enjoy the rest of the day folks
  17. Morning, The sun is shining and not a cloud in the sky which helps in these troublesome days. Just looked on line at our local newspaper and it says a lot when the main headline story is about the queues that have formed because a KFC drive through has reopened! As for flying according to my BA account I have flown around the world five times and thats just with them which was in the main for work purposes and thus business class though I have experienced first class on a couple of occasions due to upgrade. Living in the north we now avoid LHR as much as we can and on venturing across the pond we go Manchester to Dublin then onwards which has the advantage of being able to clear US customs etc in Dublin thus able to just get off the plane as if its a domestic US flight on arrival. Heading east its a flight to Frankfurt or Helsinki and the onwards to Singapore/Bangkok etc and it works out cheaper. After my flying experinces if the flight is longer than four hours then I won't bother unless I fly business class which means I have to dig around to get a good deal, but they can be found. Airports I tend to think they are much of the same though Atlanta I tend to avoid if at all possible. Flying from Manchester used to be a good experience but I think sadly now its gone down and its a grit my teeth experience when using! Anyway doubt that I will be flying anywhere soon certainly not in what remains of 2020, a coffee is needed before I get out in the garden and tackle various jobs that I have been given. Take care and enjoy your day
  18. Afternoon, sunny, blue sky with a fair breeze here, normally we do a Tesco shop for non food stuff about every 5/6 weeks so this morning off we set to Tesco. We only waited about 5 mins to get in which was good and then the fun began, having a one way system is all very well as long as people adhere to the system. Oh no various shoppers decided they could not be bothered and indeed some Tesco staff who were doing shopping for on line orders presumably thought that the system did not apply to them. As for the 2 metre rule that was a joke. We got about half way round and decided to go back to the first aisles and double up on our purchases and double up on the rest which means our next visit will be about July the 15th thank god! If Tesco had invoked the Waitrose only one shopper rule I am sure the visit would have been easier much more so for me as I would have not been there! Its was ouch! at the bill but the thought that thats it for ten weeks or so won the day. Garden jobs scheduled for tomorrow but a decoder needs ordering at some point, like Grandad Bob I have one of a fried variety! Enjoy your evening and take care
  19. Morning, when my brain starts to function and informs me why I am awake at this hour then plans/news/comment on matters will be made and reported on. Coffee first!
  20. Afternoon, Firstly congratulations Stewart on your birthday many more to come I trust. Well after a lazy morning I decided to trim the hedges leaving the lawns until tomorrow, this work was done in bright sunshine and blue sky however the sky has turned a black colour and a shower is on the cards. My view on Marmite sadly for those of you who love it is Marmite= the spawn of the devil! However if its ever rationed you can have my allocation free of charge! On that note enjoy what's left of the day and be safe.
  21. Afternoon, dry with a breeze here, lawns to wet today to mow ( in my opinion) so will leave that till tomorrow , hmm its Sunday tomorrow think I will leave it till Monday. Cancelled flights to Washington in September, refund made no issue, not sure when my other half will be confident enough to endure a flight more a trans Atlantic one. We have flights booked to Miami in late November will leave that for a while to make our minds up/see what transpires etc. Family Zoom call this morning, really nice to see my grandson (born in January) hoping its not to long before we can see him in real life again. My youngest sons other half the Dr was on the call which was good but she looks knackered and emotionally drained. Hopefully 3 days away from the front line will do her good. Otherwise not a lot to say Enjoy your day and be safe,
  22. Shame I don't live near here! A brewery has been giving away beer after it was left with excess stock because of the coronavirus lockdown. In an offer that seems to good to be true, Alnwick Brewery Company in Northumberland has decided it's better than pouring it away. Sales director Jannick Genouw told Sky News they were stuck with the beer when the coronavirus lockdown began and because it was in casks there was not much that could be done with it. "So there were two options," he said. "We can either put it down the drain, or actually come up with a plan of distributing it to the local community." The brewery has already run two events, with people clamouring to get their hands on the local brew, and will give more away at the local market. Mr Genouw said: "People were coming to the brewery with containers and getting fresh pints out of the hand pumps, and we've done that couple of times already and we are just about to do our third one now... so it's been very successful." The brewery has been asking people for donations for the NHS and has so far raised £500. People have been encouraged to collect the beer in their own containers.
  23. Morning, dry, blue skys with intermittent cloud and a gentle breeze here. Didn't post yesterday I simply forgot! We did go out yesterday to a food wholesaler who had decided to supply the public, we did have to make an appointment to get in but the trip was worth it flour, pasta yeast and other items bought. This morning we went to get a few fresh items from a local supermarket , funny looks all-round as we had surgical gloves and face masks on, got a telling off from my other half for taking the gloves off the wrong way on returning to the car! Also I found that I needed to position the face mask carefully otherwise my glasses steamed up! The joys of having a ex nurse for my other half who did a spell in Infection control. The shed beckons but awaiting a delivery of a few items due to today which I need to progress a project. Enjoy your day and take care
  24. Morning, Grey and overcast outside, no rain currently though it has done overnight. Todays job is pack an item up ready for dispatch which I am selling on flea bay, bids have been made and the auction finishes later today. Very happy with what its going for so looks like a good job all round fingers crossed. Otherwise not a lot to report at the moment. Take care all
  25. Evening, well we went for a walk this morning my first outing for about 15 days which was nice and after a very nice lunch I went for a nap and the afternoon disappeared! Hope it does not effect tonights sleep, given my lack of doing anything today nothing much to report however Happy birthday Andy P and congrats Mr Roundhouse!
