  1. Afternoon, dry and cloudy here and the temperature has dropped. Spent the morning in the shed mending a sound fitted loco that decided not to produce sound. To my delight I have managed to get it working again! Thats my good fortune allocation used up for the next few weeks I think! Not disagreeing with this but why then are trials being conducted in France//Italy and China (who can believe their data) using nicotine patches on patients and front line medical staff? I assume its because the data at the moment shows smokers 4 times less likely to catch covid19 not that it matters they just die of other things prematurely. At 12.70 a pack of 20 ( just looked it up) I can't believe how people afford it, no offence to anyone who smokes on here by the way but glad I don't partake. Off to read the papers at last Enjoy your day
  2. Morning, Blue sky and sunshine here, enjoyed our barbecue last night and a good nights sleep followed. Not a lot on the agenda today although there is a family quiz via Zoom or other such methods which should be fun later on today. Breakfast is cooking and shortly to be enjoyed outside in the sun followed by a perusal of the paper. Lastly happy birthday Dave Take care All and enjoy your day
  3. Afternoon, all well here at Shedman Towers, the sun is shining and its warm. Apparently we are having a barbecue tonight for a change says my other half. Sadly no sticky back ribs but otherwise happy with the idea. After a nice lunch in the garden with a couple of glasses of a very nice white Rioja Im off for a nap before food consumption resumes later on. Take care All
  4. Afternoon, warm and sunny here which is very nice more so sat in the garden with no jobs to do! Other half needed a new set of wiper blades for her car and set forth to Halfords, after waiting 50 mins in the quest she gave up! Seems it was one member of staff taking your order, getting it and then taking payment. Loads of people in the queue with cycle parts they needed replacing inner tubes galore apparently! So I have ordered a set via the internet which will be with us Saturday and I will fit. No sign of rain for the next week so not a rush. Otherwise all well here starting to feel normal again and sleeping like a log at night as they say! Take care all
  5. Afternoon, sun is shining with a slight breeze. Only surfaced this morning around 11 after bests night sleep I have had for a while. Not a lot to report going to venture into the shed later on I think. I am excused shopping duties tomorrow and confined to barracks till Monday apparently, not that there is anything to venture out for apart from shopping! Take care All Alan
  6. Hi, yep tight chest on days 2 and 3 breathing shallow on day 2. As for taking it easy I am not allowed to do much at all, following orders from other half. To be honest I feel like I have just run a marathon and thats about an hour after getting up! At least I have plenty of books to read sat in the garden, thank goodness for the nice weather! Alan
  7. Morning from a sunny north west, first post for 11 days if memory serves me well, due to my absence I can give you all a friendly piece of advice. Purchase a box of frozen ice lollipops and place in the fridge and hope you never need them, I woke up one morning with a throat from hell and feeling carp as they say. No sense of smell or taste and just feeling crap. I spent 5 days in bed thankfully no high temp and all I can say is whatever it was ie current lurgy going about? its left me feeling drained. My other half ex nursing sister agreed that I was not well which considering normally you need a heartbeat of one an hour to get some sympathy says a lot! I went though iced lollys like no bodies business and they did help but feeling like you have broken glass in your throat is not pleasant and whilst I have had sore throats in the past I have never experienced one as bad as this one. Anyway I am up and about but under orders to do little, next door neighbour mowed the lawns and I am hoping for permission to venture in the shed at some point. At least the sun is shining and I can sit in the garden! Enjoy your day folks
  8. Afternoon, Blue sky and a slight breeze here, spent the last couple of days in the shed making the last of the trees for the layout and other various bits, sadly this cleared all the brownie points I had earned. So this mornings job ( instruction) was to power wash the patio areas which I duly started at 0745 and have just finished! Hopefully that redresses the balance! Once Ive showered and changed I think we will head out for a short walk around the village. I opened RMweb and came straight to Wheeltappers and indeed this thread, strange thing was I was not signed in, I could read the posts but did not have the reply option, that only appeared when I had logged in. Strange as I thought you could not see Wheeltappers at all unless you were signed in to RM Web? Maybe I got that wrong! Oh well enjoy the rest of the day
  9. Afternoon, spent the day in the shed on the tree making project all going well. Something must be in the air as my other half has been baking this afternoon, a lovely coffee cake o be consumed later on. Youngest Son heard that some food wholesalers were opening their doors to the general public as obviously the demand from catering venues has fallen. After ringing a couple he found an Italian food wholesaler about 3 miles from him so off he went. He now has enough Dried Pasta/Tinned tomatoes and various other bits to last 3 to 4 months and at an unbelievable low price so he is well chuffed but unhappy about the supermarket prices in terms of mark up! Shame when this all over (eventually) he will have to go back to paying the normal price! Other than that all well. Take care All
  10. Morning, dull and cloudy outside, cooked breakfast this morning before todays tasks are started. Not planning to do anything to physical today though. I need to make another start on tree making as per Kevins of Little Muddle fame method, ie sage brush, sea foam, scatter. I reckon it takes about 2-3 hours to complete the various stages to produce the final product. Given that I have 14 to do to complete the final section of scenery I plan to work in batches so I can work on some whilst others are drying etc. At least it will give me something to do for a couple of hours each day. I remember school milk ugh! Enjoy the day and take care
  11. Afternoon, mixture of blue sky and clouds and its quite pleasant outside, we ventured out to Waitrose this morning. All supplies required sourced though with the only one shopper it was down to my other half to do this whist I sat in the car reading newspapers on my phone. I retired at 57 and do not regret my decision at all, last year I went back on a consultancy basis for one day a week for around 3 months whilst we drew up plans to deal with our decision to leave a certain club, it felt quite strange but I knew my decision to go was right when I heard the ideas of some of my previous fellow managers. Not a bl**dy clue none of them sad to say and thats without the corporate crapspeak. The money was very welcome but I am more than happy with my lot as they say. Stay safe and enjoy what's left of the day
  12. Morning, dull and grey here though the sun is trying. to appear. Just back from a walk to the local post office/corner shop and picked up milk. I counted nobody on the way there and nobody on the way back leaving the young girl serving as the only human being encountered. Shed work has come on leaps and bounds over the last three days and it seems I will finally finish the last scenic section! Other than that not a lot to report. Take care everyone
  13. Morning, All well here, blue sky and sunshine again! Settling into a rythm here am = jobs garden and household, pm = time in shed, tea time out for a walk. No sign of rain for a while which delays putting the feed and weed on the lawn as I refuse to get the sprinkler out. Otherwise all fine. Take Care All Alan
  14. Morning, as above from BSW01 nice and sunny here in the north west, not a lot else to say other than waiting for my parcel which upon arrival will mean me departing to the shed for a while. Enjoy your day folks
  15. UK Virus ALERT The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent virus threat and have therefore raised their threat level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, the level may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. The virus has been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let's Get the Bastard.” They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years. The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability. Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.” The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.” Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels. The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy. Australia, meanwhile, has raised its alert level from “No worries” to “She'll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is cancelled.” So far, no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level. The Russians have said “It's not us”
  16. Afternoon All, Dry, bright and sunny with a cold breeze here. Having a break today from gardening tasks which will continue tomorrow as its a warmer forecast. Hard to believe I am saying this but I am looking at the weather forecast for rain so I can put the weed and feed down on the lawns, just do not fancy having to get the sprinkler out! We have just come back from a local shopping trip and had no problems getting what we wanted ie bread/flour/milk toilet rolls for example. I did note people seemed to be shopping with sense ie not bulk buying long may it continue. It was our first trip out since last Friday and our last (planned anyway) till Friday this week. Ordered a few things online yesterday from a shop which provides things that run on parallel lines yesterday so looking forward to the postman visiting tomorrow! Other than that not a lot to report. Stay safe Alan
  17. My neighbour took delivery of two large chest freezers during last week which went in the garage. No sign of him filling them yet, I think they are intended for his wife and mother in law (who lives with them)!
  18. Morning, a nice dry here though a cold wind is present. More outside jobs today including lawn mowing, though we await the post with interest other half might be getting a letter asking her to consider returning to work, I am outside the 3 year period so won't have any decisions to make. Shopping has been okay and we won't be going anywhere until Wednesday thank god, did notice a lack of vegetables yesterday in our supermarket but as we live in an area of market gardens we just went to the small farm shop and got what we needed. Strange times and I think this is going to be a long haul. Enjoy your day and stay safe Alan
  19. Afternoon, weather wise it's been a good day with sunshine and blue sky, have been out in the garden starting to knock off the jobs to do list. Downside is a few aches have appeared but a nice evening meal and a glass of red or two will sort that. Whilst our supermarkets seem to have no or little milk our local post office has plenty and the small corner shop is well stocked with toilet roll this obviously might change when the masses realise that they are driving past supplies on the way to the supermarket! Weather forecast is good for the next few days ie no rain so hoping to mow the lawns and continue the outside tasks! Enjoy what's left of the day Alan
  20. Well it certainly is for me when I play, I either seem to be 100 yards to the right or the left of others who play straight down the fairway!
  21. Evening, a busy day getting all the stuff I need for the various jobs I will be doing over the next few weeks. We did venture into a supermarket and had no problem getting milk and various supplies. Though there was an absence on a few shelves, jam/tinned soup and tinned tuna for example. To my complete disbelief (at first) around 4pm a van rolled up from AOL and delivered not one but 2 large chest freezers to a neighbour and were placed in the garage. Given the state of shopping in supermarkets I can only think they are for his wife and mother in law ( who lives with them) as I doubt if he can fill both of them given the current situation! Otherwise all well here at Shedman Towers Take Care Alan
  22. Afternoon All, Firstly re the above quote from Smiffy2 over Xmas both of us had all the symptoms my other half worse than I, we had flown back from Singapore just before Xmas it does make me wonder what we had caught! Lazy day though we did go shopping, amazed that the flour shelves were decimated ie empty! I am not convinced that all those who bought said flour know how to make bread etc! Toilet Rolls/Tissues/Hand Soap also in short supply. The only items I am stocking up on are model making related which in fairness I do need but would normally buy over a period of time. I would not be a happy bunny if I cannot get something I needed to complete a project because we are all in lockdown! Enjoy the rest of the day folks
  23. He obviously disregards the following lol! Not for Covid 19 but good for saw throatsAntibacterial activity of red and white wine against oral streptococci. Daglia M1, Papetti A, Grisoli P, Aceti C, Dacarro C, Gazzani G. Author information Abstract Wine contains a number of biologically active compounds with beneficial effects on human health. The antibacterial action of commercial red and white wines against oral streptococci responsible for caries development and against S. pyogenes responsible for pharyngitis was studied. Its postcontact effect against S. mutans was also studied. Both wines displayed activity. The compounds responsible for such activities were succinic, malic, lactic, tartaric, citric, and acetic acid. The synthetic mixtures of the organic acids tested at the concentrations found in wine had greater antibacterial activity than the beverages, indicating that in wine they are inhibited by other components. Wine polyphenols displayed no activity against oral streptococci or S. pyogenes. Findings show that wine is active against oral streptococci and S. pyogenes and suggest that it enhances oral health. Granddad Bob this does not mean a bottle a night just a glass!
  24. Enjoyed the video Kevin, good stuff Alan
  25. Morning, Grey and damp outside, the rain has stopped for the time being. Not sure what's happening today need to check with the boss. Guinness I remember a phase of it being drunk with blackcurrant juice in it, which was okay until someone had one too many and was sick. It looked like they were bleeding to death! Whilst I do like Guinness two pints is enough for me these days, without blackcurrant !!! Enjoy your day Alan
