  1. Think I will pop in tomorrow, sad news if it closes as this is my nearest model shop. Alan
  2. Morning, dry but overcast and a tad chilly here, today after a quick haircut then a visit to the supermarket I hope to spend the afternoon in the shed finishing a couple of jobs that I left half way through. Yesterday was spent with youngest at his new abode helping to build a rather large amount of flat pack wardrobes and put 2 new beds together, his partner the good Dr M supplied hots drinks and a rather nice lunch for the workers. Drive home from Manchester took ages with roadworks and individuals who have no recollection of the Highway Code at all! Enjoy your day Alan
  3. Afternoon, dry and sunny at the moment, log may it last. Back from a visit over the weekend to see the grandson who is doing fine and has a good pair of lungs ! Programmed a loco this morning using my new controller, much simpler than the previous one so pleased with that. My ticket for Model Rail Scotland arrived this morning going to be a busy long day with 50 layouts and over 100 exhibitor stands, have a feeling a lot of modelling tokens could be spent! A quiet afternoon planned and I think a afternoon snooze could be on the cards! Enjoy the rest of the day folks Alan
  4. Morning, we returned home last night after a couple of days away in the Lake District which was very pleasant, up early this morning to deposit other half at the railway station as the is off to London for the day. Thus I have the day to my self with only a couple of small jobs to do. Time in the shed is a real possibility!!! Enjoy your day folks Alan
  5. Afternoon, well the rain has stopped and if the forecast is to be believed we are in for a couple of nice sunny dry days, cold but much preferred to rain and grey cloud. Yesterday I decided to tackle a job which had been the to do list for a while which was fitting thermostats to three remaining radiators , the others having been done by a plumber. I decided that I could tackle this job and save a bit of dosh. Draining down the system and fitting the new valves went smoothly with no problems. The fun and games came after turning the water back on and then balancing the system, air locks prevailed and after going up and down stairs numerous times to the radiators turning them off and back on in turn bleeding them etc we got there but I was knackered hence a quiet day today! Alan
  6. Morning, just back from the local builders merchants with all items required sourced. A slight diversion on the way back saw me stop and purchase a bacon and egg sandwich which was excellent and of course that has been duly forgotten in conversation with other half! Grey ( as always these days) and now starting to rain with high winds forecast for later, hopefully time in the shed beckons later but a few household tasks to complete first. Enjoy your day Alan
  7. Evening, a productive if at times frustrating day in the shed, decided to fit crew to drive you know what, some locos easy others a nightmare! At least the wind has died down until tomorrow when it's expected to re visit. Wood burner lit so its time for a couple of glasses of vino callapso as they say! Alan
  8. Morning, lots to catch up on as yesterday was spent tackling a long list of jobs some of which where outside. The weather was good yesterday dry and blue sky however not the case today! So after a browse through the papers etc its off to the shed, all shopping etc has been done so no need to go anywhere. M6 is closed between two junctions for the weekend to facilitate the removal of a bridge south of Lancaster. The A road which will have to take the traffic will be a nightmare. Enjoy your day Alan
  9. Afternoon, Back from my trip to London to see my Grandson born on Monday, he is doing fine as are Mum and Dad so all is well. First trip on Avanti West Coast, no problems either way, we treated ourselves to first class both ways and I have to say the food served was of a better quality than Virgin, long may trouble free trips with them continue as we will be using them frequently over the forthcoming months! Think I might arrange it so I can go to Ally Pally at the same time as a visit to the grandson. Smart Meters, no thanks, its the tariff and daily charge which count, my modelling tokens have been increased by switching, currently with Octopus and cannot fault them at all. New DCC controller has arrived so off to set that up and get familiar with it. All in all a good week so far!! Enjoy the day Alan
  10. Evening, the day started with a slight disaster ie DCC controller emitting smoke! On inspection its stuffed as they say, I do have a spare but will look to buy a replacement which I intended to do today. However this afternoon my first grandchild came into the world a healthy boy at 9lb, so looking for a replacement fell by the wayside. We are going up to London ( travelling by train) tomorrow, I thought of driving DOWN to London but decided to let the train take the strain. So will be in London for a couple of days which I am looking forward to. The arrival of my Grandson has more than compensated for todays disaster, though In fairness I have had the now stuffed controller for 11 years so I should not complain. Time to open a nice bottle of plonk now and toast the new arrival! Alan
  11. Morning , sunshine here after a frost, its quite pleasant outside. Tip done, shopping done and after I have done a couple of small jobs its shed time as they say. Enjoy your day the last of 2019! Alan
  12. Afternoon, the day started off nice and sunny but grey clouds are now prevalent. Having an easy day today, yesterday I fitted a new integrated larder fridge, the job went better than expected and the money that would have even spent on having it fitted is going into modelling funds, well that's my plan! Old one disposed of this morning so all good. Other half is still under the weather as they say but progress is being made, planning to get a couple of hours in the shed later on. Enjoy the rest of your day Alan
  13. Morning, Youngest and his girlfriend departed around 6 this morning, both at work today though the girlfriend a vet was working part of Xmas day. Other half is suffering from the cough/cold bug that is doing the rounds so I have been cleaning up and getting the house back in order. The garage is like a bomb site but I will wait a couple of days as it will be chaos at the local tip. As regards Statins its a case of trial and error until you find one that suits you, some give leg cramps as mentioned others cough etc. As for what seems a long list of side effects on any medicine these are a case of might happen, I can remember when patient information leaflets first came into being and my mother refusing (at first) to take her heart medication because of the list of possible side effects. The old adage of an apple a day keeps the Dr away now seems to be replaced by 10,000 steps a day keeps the Dr away! Enjoy your day folks Alan
  14. Hi Just to wish everyone on here a great Xmas, thought I would get that in now while I have time as we are soon to be invaded by neighbours ( SWMBOS idea) then family and I know I will be under orders for most of the day! Be safe and enjoy the day Alan
  15. Afternoon, Dry and cloudy at least we have no rain at the moment. Busy couple of days mainly around shopping etc. Good news is we are almost done and I am not needed for the final bits!!! So its shed time over the next couple of days which could do with a tidy up and stuff put in some kind of order. Enjoy your day Alan
  16. In railway parlance an up train would be heading towards London and a down train away from it. So if you were travelling by rail to London, you'd presumably be going up, as it would be absurd to go down to anywhere on the up train. Thing is I was driving so its down to London for me heading South Enjoy your day Alan
  17. Afternoon just! Having been AWOL for two days a lot to catch up on, traveled down to to the outskirts of London at the weekend (Denham) to meet up with eldest and daughter in law and exchange Xmas presents etc as they are with her parents ( who live close by) this Xmas which has fallen well as she is pregnant and due around Jan3rd or maybe before! So she is close to her maternity hospital etc. Still getting my head around becoming a Granddad! We know its a boy name/s decided but they have kept that as a secret until the birth. Journey down was good and the new motor was excellent, on the return journey as soon as we got to Birmingham the sky went black and it chucked it down all the way home. When I bought the car it never occurred to me that a heated steering wheel would be a feature that I would take to, it showed its worth at 5am on Saturday morning! So I am going to try and catch up on the posts but lunch needs sorting first. Enjoy your day Alan
  18. Afternoon, chucked it down here this morning with a strong wind, the latter still occurring. No comment from me regarding last nights events, suffice to say I agree with Barry O and his comment. Indeed it was the dredded P word that caused me to pull away from this forum along with a couple of others a couple of years ago. If we need to be controversial in our postings we can discuss model railways lol! Off to stick a couple more bits of plastic together which hopefully will advance the making of the kit with crap instructions! Enjoy your day Alan
  19. Hi, Many thanks for this, very timely as considering a purchase for my layout. Alan
  20. Afternoon, wet and miserable outside, spent yesterday setting the new computer up and transferring files and documents. All went well though it was a slow process as I have moved from Windows to Mac and it was a case of learning whilst doing! I went and voted this morning, doubt it will make a difference here, always surprises me that you just turn up and say your name and address and no identification needed. Time to tackle a couple of things in the shed. Enjoy your day folks Alan
  21. Afternoon, Dark ,very wet and windy here but never mind, started to put a kit together I recently received as a present in the shed today, instructions about as clear as mud thus as useful as a chocolate fireguard ! However I have it sorted I think. Went to the local builders merchants and got a £1 bag of offcuts which I have chopped up into kindling, all fingers and thumbs still intact and booked my train for the trip to Model Rail Scotland in February so the day has been fruitful. As for Xmas tree lights well enough said but further down the road we have inflatable snowmen, reindeers and god knows what else occupying front gardens. So far none have been blown away in the wind............sadly says I, maybe I am turning into the Grinch! Hope those ailing feel better soon and enjoy what's left of the day. Alan
  22. Morning, Dry and sunny here, a tad windy last night but no damage apart from the neighbours Xmas lights coming away from the fixings! Went through the soon to be old pc deciding what to keep etc, vow to self don't save everything ! Did find my welcome email to RMweb dated 31/12/2007 blimey 12 years have flown by! As the forecast shows rain every day this week and its nice and sunny we are off for a walk, a day in the shed beckons tomorrow as other half out all day. Enjoy your day Alan
  23. Morning, overcast here this morning with rain due, went to the Manchester show yesterday ( a last min decision) which I enjoyed. One individual I saw in the que was obviously planning to stay overnight there as he had a Bergen type rucksack on his back obviously containing tent etc!!! Job for today is to clear the old pc of not needed files/pics/videos etc before I migrate the data to a new pc. Enjoy your day Alan
  24. Morning, still dark outside but I know it's not raining...yet. Decided a couple of days ago it was time to change the pc given its age and other reasons, hmm it must know as yesterday it had in human terms a major heart attack,, followed by a stroke and various other complaints! Took me ages to fix it and get it behaving, the need to change has been reinforced and has moved up the priority list, Otherwise all is well or will be when we return from shopping , at least it's food shopping! Enjoy your day Alan
  25. Morning, Car arrived yesterday, spent last night studying the manual and this morning have set up preferences etc all good so far! Off to the model shop later on though I might save some tokens for the Manchester show this weekend just in case! Nice and sunny here, enjoy your day Alan
