Is the black roof and rather odd shade of blue possibly down to using TRAINSIM as a research tool? A quick search produces only one black radiator surround amongst a sea of yellow (unless it might be dirt, but more likely painted black): Edit: Just noticed the blue buffer beam on same image - that's a bit oddball too, isn't it? A very early application of blue - still has its D number. http://mikemorant.smugmug.com/keyword/diesel;462;08/i-hP57JmJ/A But despite these glitches, at least it is way more accurate than the Lego version:
  2. Its Oops (another slip of the finger?)
  3. I'm risking being put on a charge for wandering off-topic on your behalf, Jintyman - but you might like to consider 1/24: http://www.militarymodelling.com/news/article/richard's-matador-in-1-24/13956
  4. Alternatively - they produce a decent 1/35th RL kit. I wonder if they might be prepared to allow you to 3-D scan a completed model and then 3-D print a batch to 1/43? Is that even feasible? Mr. Modelu reckons his gear is unsuitable for stuff with lots of straight edges…...
  5. Either (not very likely) yours was in a hard front-end shunt with mine at the factory - or (more likely) it is a common issue!
  6. What an informative post 73080, thank you. Notwithstanding photographic distortion, it is quite apparent there was variation in profile - your more scientific approach to the question is most useful. Of the multitude of pictures of the 24/25 family I have studied recently, I concluded that the Heljan profile bears a quite remarkable resemblance to 65%, and is quite unlike the remaining 35%. The following views of a new arrival give an idea of the degree of curvature - it looks like 65% of the pictures I've seen, so I'm happy! If you think it fairly represents a Class 25/1 you will no doubt be happy. And if you still think it is too flat, hopefully you too will be happy that these pictures prove you were right all along. And if enough folk are happy that it is wrong, I'll be happy too, as it implies sales might falter and the price collapse, and I'll be able to pick up a second one at a knock-down price! I guess the glazing is as close to being flush as can be without actually complying with the definition of flush glazing - which is a bit infuriating as it seems hardly worth doing anything to improve it. Having said that if there was a flush glazing kit available it would be tempting.
  7. Well at least you haven't posted a model replica of this image, which must be a good sign! https://www.flickr.com/photos/obviousrichy/2374491325
  8. Thank you very much for clarifying that, Paul. The photo you linked of D2581 is a great image And I've just followed up your reference to restoration of DD2578 to find a whole stash of useful pictures! http://www.d2578locogroup.co.uk/photos.htm Tony
  9. No no no no no! Don't want to see the project scuppered through lack of workable ironstone! http://mapapps.bgs.ac.uk/geologyofbritain/home.html? Looks like Stanton had a quick 'look-see' circa 1931. From link page click on 'go to location' top right and type in Cogenhoe. Then hit 'borehole scans' top leftish to see available data. But first have a look at http://www.bgs.ac.uk/products/onshore/sobi.html to ensure you understand conditions of use!
  10. Having failed to find any photographic evidence, I'm going to guess the left hand of the two 'late livery' variants (more vertical stripes) is the early one?
  11. While we wait for the silicone delivery, I thought you might enjoy a few words penned during the war by a USAAF airman at 94th BG, Rougham, Bury St. Edmunds: As I lie in my Nissen hut I get this wondrous feeling - How much of this is walls? Or is the whole thing ceiling?
  12. Here is the front curvature in to those drawings - am I the only one thinking there is something not quite right there? Unless someone can kindly provide evidence from an official drawing, I am resigned to an outing to measure up the nearest rat (sadly a lot more than 10ft away ) to decide for myself.
  13. Just stumbled across this drawing link whilst looking for Class 25 General Arrangement drawings!! http://www.ssplprints.com/image/1132237/a1966-24-ms0001-3-94750
  14. Does this look ok compared to your drawings?
  15. I hear there's a big disposal sale of VICTORY Class locomotives coming up at Telford shortly. May even have a bid myself…...
  16. TEA possibly for liquid fertiliser storage? There are some big farming operations around there.
  17. Brilliant, well done swampy and balders! When I next go over I'll see if I can uncover any plates on the solebar.
  18. Now here is a right puzzler - looks like a motor car carriage of some sort? Needs some expert i.d. In a quiet Norfolk yard, housed a standby generator:
  19. Thanks for the memories…….Norfolk, in a dealers yard:
  20. As someone who never expected to see much more than the engine shed and a couple of sidings (let alone a representation of a working colliery!) in such a small space, I feel compelled to say - "Well I never...." The way your detailing is starting to draw everything together into one uniform scene is a lesson for the learning.
  21. You've probably already discovered these - but for others following, try this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnpaddy22/9590606137/in/photolist-7jQady-fBun5e-ouFZ3k-pSZvVc-aFBnLx-od8fXb-oukx5V-7jQnPA-oeRYfk-owda5C-oeJZ2A-oeiuqi-ovPZn6-oeM95R-oy1Qjk-ovTjbt And this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/31514768@N05/4151276316/in/photolist-7jQady-fBun5e-ouFZ3k-pSZvVc-aFBnLx-od8fXb-oukx5V-7jQnPA-oeRYfk-owda5C-oeJZ2A-oeiuqi-ovPZn6-oeM95R-oy1Qjk-ovTjbt And this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/31514768@N05/4151233916/in/photolist-7jQady-fBun5e-ouFZ3k-pSZvVc-aFBnLx-od8fXb-oukx5V-7jQnPA-oeRYfk-owda5C-oeJZ2A-oeiuqi-ovPZn6-oeM95R-oy1Qjk-ovTjbt Tony
  22. This fellow has discovered one benefit of a cone: http://www.gifbin.com/987101 There's no chance of that slurry tower blocking and overflowing - is there, Dave………...
  23. Chris - while we wait patiently for the glue to dry on your new baseboards, I hope that your military background and the origins of Tonfanau Camp might justify posting of a recent newspaper clipping sent to me by a friend: Tony
  24. I'm sure you've discovered this site already Phil - but the early photo and images from 2008 of the Garratt's lair are worth linking here: http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/misc-sites/7414-vivian-sons-no1-shed-landore-oct-08-a.html#.V0NN0Vx1JlI
