  7. Oh and we will probably by asking for input, as the ideas evolve, any creative ways to helping make them look good in the areas, and also how to roll one into the next without adding scenic breaks. We have already discussed the facts that in this part of the loft the leading edge of the tables does not necessarily have to be a long straight line, allowing tracks to move quickly into different depths of the layout, and using PIR to help with the height issues. We have to go above and below the tie bars, so the top of the window frames are limited by the 'under the tie bar' then support for lift of scenery WHEN it is not supporting track will also be done. But more of that when we start into the old loft. We have used the time to work on the problems we know will occur, and hopefully some of the solutions we are intending to use will work out well. Tables will therefore tend to be 8ft or 4ft long by 3ft deep, although the scenery layer will be deeper, coming forward or going back as the roof line allows to maximise space, and the table pushed backwards or forwards so a track does not need to have too sharp a curve in order to be further back or forwards on the next table, allowing different depths of scenery around the tacks......This concept is probably hard to follow....me making myself as clear as mud LOL.....I will be doing pencil drawings later, which will clarify.
  8. Well we placed an order with a builder last September, and he actually rang US to say he should be in a position to do it within the month. Once the two Veluxs are in place, there is nothing to stop us getting on with it. We took the opportunity whilst waiting to upgrade the insulation in that area, and complete check the flooring and move wires into better positions. Kal added also more lighting. Kal has also built two tables frames, having worked out how we will navigate the two bars holding the roof together ready and is chomping at the bit to get in there...... So builder in....job done....and some serious decisions over placement of tables will commence, and a whole new era of terraforming will take off.We already have some good ideas of what aspects will get a place in this new area. Water features, and trams are BOTH ideas that will get in, and a mining area, and a batter airport (though that might yet fit in the original part of AV).........I think we will need a T.A.R.D.I.S. eventually....he keeps eyeing up the garage!!!!!....BUT there is room for several ideas that we have planned, and we already have some items to populate those areas in question including buildings, stations, and rolling stock. Kal already showed how he will motorise all the trams, so far only one has been done, as we do not want stock stood waiting for homes. And a number of modelling materials beside the PIR are boxed ready for use. I suspect it will eat up our birthday and Christmas and wedding anniversary etc in no time at all......LOL......good thing we are both interested in this. Plus it should mean the thread owner starts posting again doing the aspects that particulalry interest him. Oooooh what do we need for Ethel?
  9. talking of which glue does seem to be the bane of your life, and probably many another modeller. I have in the past used an appropiate glue, not been satisfied that it would last the course and added a touch of something more violent to the edges. In fact the inside of our aged Range Rover is having serious problem with the lining inside the cab......and though it is only the back that is effected at the moment....I will have to decide on how best to re-glue it and then press it back again the 'hull' leaving as little clues as possible to what I have done, and hoping...cross fingers.....that the glue does not mark the material on the interior side.. .........glues in my experience......a complete pain in the bum..... for models i have changed to tacky wax as they allow me to move them about, however I do have to be really careful as on a couple of models where the tacky has become contaminated and I wanted to remove it and re apply I have been over enthusiastic and broken more than one leg!!!!!! ....... glue......hate the stuff.......especially superglue when applied to my fingers.....or other skin parts.......luckily NOT my eyes to date.....
  10. I believe the material you are using, is actually good, and if they have ''gone south' it i probably more about the fixative......perhaps investigating that might save you some heartache.....especially as you say you had addressed this before, and I had not realised it was those very re worked ones that had saggy knicker elastic.....
  11. these yellow ones, will need some weathering in due course 281sacks / kalboro although they were only background noise to the pallets in the front that I had added kitchen food wrap to in order to make them look more like the real thing again some pictures can display them better than they are 282kalooro
  12. Agreed a member of my family goes spare when they see the flag accidentally hung upside down.....
  13. A few examples existed I do remember one specifically in Windsor, but can't find proof of it..... However I quickly googled wine bar and 1960s....... www.solihullcamra.org.uk/old_pub_names.htm One of Solihull's oldest buildings, it opened as a wine bar in 1973. www.coolplaces.co.uk/places/uk/england/london/.../3080-la-gaffe This characterful B&B was established as a wine bar in the 1960s by an Italian and a Cypriot refugee, ... An alleyway of quirky shops just off the High Street. ....However....I agree THAT Wine bar is not intended as a 1960s version. And there is a much bigger problem on some of the pictures I did for my Christmas event which this was part of....I had a totally inappropriately dated road sign in picture........hastily removed.......LOL...
  14. the petrol pump is still slowly disintegrating at the other end of our field, the petrol tank was filled with sand or concrete long before we bought the place. ....I am going to go away and come back later....love the thread by the way.... .....some great ideas..... reminder to self.....made it to page 7.....
  15. p59 Arboretum Valley I had trouble with some modelling clay, and thought to use up the last of it before it dried out....... black bin bags, sainsbury bags, recyclable bags...... 278binbaggs2 edit= close up I even added the knoted plastic.....
  16. but the prices are enough to make you faint!!!!!!!
  17. ....never say never........ technically these are for a Safari Park, and not yet out on the layout, as neither are finished being painted yet, only the African animals are so far out there. and as you might know Rhinos and Elephants have been around on RMWeb for some time on various threads....... 3964zoofigure 3950zoofigure myth busters to the rescue..............LOL.............
  18. again....not the whole hog....no umbrellas etc as this was the basis for my Christmas snow, and they are under the snow, to have slush and the puddles being splashed by cars (the last bit still not done) but I was inspired by someone else, just don't ask me who it was.... p337 3794 3796
  19. too late Dover Priory has already got them........although he usually shows off the seagulls.....I did show them on AV first BUT not on a station.... there were Davids models which I painted....so can't quickly mock one up LOL the models are extremely frustrating to paint tho.....being SO small... ask David todd ...Dover Priory thread owner to do some specific shots, and you can cross that one off, he could add some idiot encouraging them by throwing them bread/left over sandwich.......
  20. 1730 it was this picture ages a go, that had me unhappy with the yellow lines on the loco compared to the yellow lines on my platform 0088
  21. Polly I find that the pictures with the shadows or light effects do add something, I also find there is only a small window of opportunity to get them. In my opinion my best pictures are taken early morning or late dusk. And the best lighting opportunities are in the summer when those shadows et are there for longer giving you more opportunity to 'set up' a nice picture, rather than race to capture something before the light goes. I remember thinking Lincoln Central was hard to photograph because of strong light through a back window, and now I would look at it as a photographic opportunity. Will look forward to seeing the results, which of your threads will you upload the picture on, as I know several people are hoping to see pictures of the Stafford Show.
