  1. Llhama 3937 the leather colour 62 Humbrol 3947 the first of several transparent overcoats 3948 until he was dark enough and the leather only just showing they, there was a photograph of a white faved version but I think the black fave one looks better on this model. 3949 3950
  2. and I did think about the whiskers....if an idea springs to mind...i might still have a go. a view of my original piece of artwork the whiskers here were achieved by NOT drawing them, i.e. gaps were left between the black areas FYI The whole picture is framed and the glass gives an appearance of some streaks that are not actually on the picture. An old Esso advert was the inspiration for the cat.
  3. Tiger Tiger burning bright hoping to last through the night the gene pool is small life is no ball and extinction is probably in sight...... tigerday.org
  4. I forgot to photograph the stripes as I was concentrating on getting them to a decent standard 3954 shame i didn't check the photograph!!! luckily i took another afterwards 3955 3956 getting the smaller details took some repaints as the brush was just too big.... posed for sizing 3957 I often find you have to repaint a couple of times to get stuff looking ok, repainting the base colour, then the top coats until the brush.... your dexterity.... and the paint all align to something you like. Getting the white around the mouth and on the eyes, and then getting the black in place and the face not lopsided took a couple of attempts. The first time the eyes were not the same height!!! As the model does not have enough detail once the base coat is on. Still got there in the end. The stripes are like elongated diamonds...start thin widen out and then back to a point.
  5. I decided to do a self portrait.... .......... 3938 3939 some leather brown 62 3942 some citadel gold 3951 a touch of citadel copper 3952 almost happy with the base colour 3953
  6. I was just looking at the last station pictures....which I had already reposted, but you'd think they would use something more secure than a garden shed...wouldn't you.
  7. EEEEEEEK!!!!!! Those flowers cost a bomb, I would just paint them or buy a small pack of colours.
  8. Having been short sighted all my life, I find when modelling I can just remove my glasses, my eyesight is pretty bad, so my magnification is more like 5-8 all depends which eye is open LOL. Just as well modern science gives me thin plastic lenses....as I don't wear contacts any more.
  9. I have the same problem, figures on the layout to the bare eye looks really good, photographs of the same show every imperfection that is not noticeable to the naked eye. But we still try to photograph them as close up as possible LOL.
  10. the hippo before...virgin plastic, 3934 theres two crocodiles both have a limb missing.....maybe in the stomachs of the other???? 3935 the two together, the croc got more painting later 3943 ooops forgot this 3945
  11. As I rarely put up stuff to do with actual trains I thought you might like some tracks..... 3927 only teasing heres a loco or two....and some modification. 3931 3930
  12. a sneak pre view of the safari area... 3944
  13. for someone who can't paint you have the right type of technique for these platforms. There are no brush strokes here and non required, and the water has been a wash giving the correct type of finish in my opinion. The second but last picture shows there is a little green growth on the concrete, but reflecting that could be tricky now you have a nice finish. I often use excess water and use a second pint brush to introduce a watery colour when the main paint job is still wet. The colour finishes in the citadel range are especially good for introducing minimal colour. As with your modelling your painting is improving. I dont remember who said it but they said to be a good artist you need to have flair blah blah blah BUT to be a great artist you need to practise your art for like 10,000 hours, In other words the more time and practise you put in the more you observe the process and the better you become. This is certainly proving to be the case in your work. The opportunity you have to see the real thing in various lights and record it has given you a unique chance to record this before the advent of time changes it.
  14. Excellent detailing, knowing how fiddly these things can be....I salute you. They look gorgeous. Where did you source the figure?
  15. I had great birthday. And still have some cash to spend. I spent some more time today looking for the elusive train part of kals \xmas present and the little devil just can't be found. They need to make a walk in bubble with an air cushion to sit on so you can open trains and not lose the bits........
  16. another animal story. A friend had to move to the big smoke and asked us to take in their young cat....so I took her down the vets to get her down.....and was a advised we were too late.... so we ended up with 5!!!!! Anyway the kittens were still young when one disappeared. I had two paper adverts with a picture, and a call out onto local radio. A woman with 4 children in the village contacted us.....if one child had not been frightened of the kitten i don't think we would have seen him again.....regardless we bought him home...put him down on the grass by the from door, his mum came bounding across rubbed both cheeks with hers (marking him I presume) then reared back and smacked him right round the chops......the caption in my opinion??? Where the 'ell have you been you dirty little stop out!!!!!!!! Wish i had it on video........
  17. I got a lovely gold and garnet cluster ring, bit like a knuckle duster.....!!!!!!!! And have been told to find myself a nice jewellery box, I am thinking of a nice wooden one which can take my chunky stone necklaces and bracelets. .... I have been out for a Chinese buffet.....and am now stufffffffffed........,,,,
  18. Zoooooom a doom doom, well the station was doomed.......wonderful video, and informative loved the pictures of the station. ......multi talented....smart alec... ...............................wonderful stuff.......
  19. There won't be much posted today as it is a family birthday.....mine to be precise.....and yes I always say I WAS born on a Friday.......but actually wasn't LOL. Not being very superstitious, I love black cats, although I don't walk under ladders.....eventually your just gonna get wet.....LOL.

    A New Start

Hopefully the win shows your luck has changed, I do think that some times you have a bad streak, I just lay off whatever is effected, and come back to it later. I like the way you have painted he figures, and suspect once on the layout the shadows and highlight you have achieved will make them look pretty neat.As you have gone with a grotty building, I would add some pale green for lichen or moss, on the top, not too much and some dirt mud or grass round the bottom, that sort of not quite loved look, which will help bed it in. I think some very only just there streaky green along the edge of might look good, but it does depend on how you planned to use it... I think it would need to be subtle, as with older station in general they were kept cleaner, but if it was off to the side you might get away with it. I'd avoid the blue tack on the layout LOL, I use one pot goes a very long way i have barely touched mine and as we know i play with a lot of figures... militartymodelling.com
  21. Thank you...I will check it out.....shall also be looking at the earlier black and whites that you mention you have of your Dads, I prefer my pictures with colour, but invariably if you want 'fashion' of clothing for figures, and subtle differences of era the black and whites of the time are useful tools. Thank you for the link.
  22. 2mm!!!!!! I thought that building was good when I thought it was 4mm!!!!!!!! Lovely detailing for something half the size I work on.I have occasionally thought of doing a bit of O gauge to get something larger to allow more detailing. Their oxford cars etc have so much better detailing than 00. An now super impressed by yours for being N gauge.
  23. Some trains sell fast and end up like hens teeth and so cost a bomb, other languish until the likes of Hattons reduce them to a pittance, then are bought up fast......when they then become like hens teeth and the price shoots thru the roof. If you like it and can swallow the price, it is usually better and more cost effect to buy it whilst available in the shops. I remember we bought one of the last of a Limited Edition and it turned out had a name plaque missing, Hattons warned we could return it but stocks had run out, and a replacement would be unlikely to appear (he was right) and someone else would snap it up despite the missing name tag. We kept it, especially as it was part of a set of 4.One of the Rare Birds a kingfisher I think. Plus second hand, can mean the engine has been run to death or some wear or tear or bits missing. losing the bits yourself is bad enough, but paying over the odds, to get a second hand train that arrives minus the finishing touches can be really annoying. My advice is if you know you want one, and can afford it, you might as well buy it. Look after it, keep the box etc, and later you are likely to cover the purchase price if you decide you no longer need it. edit=Buying items to speculate on a profit however ends up in the hands of the Gods....you never know what happens with prices.I also think that the big manufacturers are unlikely to improve the production quality....which is pretty good....because they are concerned it will price them too high. Part of the reason bits are sent out for self assembly.
  24. all your work is always seriously 'good' but some thing about that water tower leads me to wish i could see it on a layout......it looks as though it would have real presence
