  1. Good luck to him. I would never try to land a Jaguar on a roundabout, but that's just me.
  2. Lol yup. I hope you weren't too badly affected by the storm Colin.
  3. We had much the same, but being near the coast had a few trees and fences down locally. Next door lost quite a few slates from their roof. The clean up continues today. Cork was worst hit. 40,000 still without power in the county. 169,000 countrywide without power and 66,000 homes without water, mostly because of lack of power in pumping stations.
  4. The blustery winds calmed down from around 7 onwards. No major damage locally apart from the usual trees, garden furniture and wheelie bins on the roads. Thanks all for the support. Thoughts and good wishes to Debs, John and Duncan.
  5. It looks like we will miss the worst of the storm here on the east coast. The winds are fairly blustery now and next door are starting to lose roof tiles. The worst should be over here by around 6. The southwest and west coast seem to be bearing the brunt. The usual cockwombles out. Wind surfers rescued off Louth coast, near Dundalk. Also swimmers in the sea at Salthill, near Galway City. Two fatalities so far, one when a tree fell onto car and also a chainsaw accident while clearing fallen tree. 360,000 now without power. Edited to update details.
  6. Red weather warning for the whole country. Most businesses are closed or will be by lunchtime. Not much public transport. Public service offices closed. Limited postal deliveries. 100,000 without power. And this is before the storm hits land. The west and south coasts look like taking the brunt of it.
  7. Jinties 7456 and 7553 were re-gauged to 5ft 3 and used by the LMS Northern Counties Committee around Belfast for shunting duties from 1944. They were renumbered to 18 and 19.
  8. Westjet are currently using 737-700 aircraft from Dublin, even smaller than the standard Ryanair -800's. Air Transat have been using A310's occasionally from Dublin instead of A330's. These must be the last A310's in passenger use anywhere.

No, that's Heuston station, which was also the distribution depot for Guinness products. This led to an inspired poster of an almost empty glass of Guinness with the tagline "Heuston, we have a problem"
  10. Your first photo is a MiG-21Next is a Su-25/27 The biplanes are An-2 (still the largest single engined biplane) I'm intrigued by the Twinjet which looks to have had a second cockpit added (is it a trainer version) I cannot help on the helicopters apart from various Hind / Mi8 versions. Soviet military aircraft were always distinctive. Edited for sloppy spelling. (Again)
  11. I'll have to agree with that line.
  12. Glad you're not badly injured Neil. Some car drivers just don't notice/see/pay attention to bikes directly in front of them. Take things handy for the next few days. In other news, there's no news.
  13. Tesco Mobile? In the distant past we had 088: Eircell , 087: eircell new system, later Vodafone, 086: ESAT, later O2, 083: Meteor, now 3 089 and others, virtual providers, piggybacking on other networks.
  14. Tea isn't flammable, it's inflammable. Oh, hold on a minute. ............... Hat, coat, gone
  15. I can confirm I'm not dyslexic, but I must remember not to post after a couple of beers.
  16. Tinfoil = Aluminium = no rust
  17. Have you heard about the insomniac dyslexic agnostic? He stayed awake a night wondering whether there was a God.
  18. Best wishes to Debs and Passepartout from this side of the smaller pond.
  19. Also Phibsboro and Stephen's Green. RA37 was a regular on the 27B when I were a nipper. Almost a family friend. Nice to see 3 of the 4 liveries carried by these buses. I must try to upload my pictures of the same event. Were you a passenger on the (overloaded) C class mini tour?
  20. The oddest place I've seen NSE liveried stock was on the south quays in Dublin city centre (on the back of a low loader). CIE had swapped some old C class diesels for some early Mark 2 stock, mostly in blue/grey. Some of this stock had mismatched doors in later liveries, including NSE. Quite a surprise on my cycling commute home.
  21. Oh yes, this lad has lots of convictions. I love living on a small (insular) island. Things have changed since then. ....... Not
  22. And the so called "perfect Irishman" is a Dutch resident for tax purposes.
  23. Our recycling seems fairly uncomplicated compared to some of the above: 1. Brown bin: garden cuttings and food waste including napkins/tissues 2. Green bin: anything with recycling marks including plastics, cardboard and paper 3: black bin: all the rest. Green bin collected weekly, the others fortnightly, alternating. We put the black bin out about every 6 weeks.
