  1. Thanks PeterThe height of summer is also a time when nose ends get particularly dirty as well from the plethora of dead flies that get stuck to the front. More so though on passenger locos or units although 66s running at 75mph on intermodals get pretty blitzed. I'm going to have a go at construction liveried 37411 next so we'll see if I can improve a bit on that. Cheers Marcus P.S How do you manage to get your exhaust stains looking so good without an air brush. Tried several times with a brush but couldn't get it to look right.
  2. Hi PeterThanks for the pointers in the right direction. All advice is greatly needed. One of the pictures I used for getting some ideas is below. Admittedly it is rather grubby but 676 is one of my personal favourites as it was one of the first Buxton machines I copped for haulage. Your definitely right about the roof though. Certainly needs to be a bit dirtier. Cheers Marcus
  3. Thanks Martyn. I really appreciate all the positive feed back I've received. Gives me the incentive to carry on and try and perfect it even more. Cheers Marcus
  4. Hi Al That sounds like a good plan regarding the areosols. Might just need to use a slight off white for it to show up. Alternatively I might try the weathering powder solution as I've just tried some out on the 37 and I'm quite impressed with them. I'll try both methods out on my old shed to see what finish I get. Decisions, decisions!! Cheers Marcus
  5. Took your advice Andy and purchased some weathering powders this afternoon after I finished work. I've just given a light dusting on the bogies and the tumble home at the moment. A couple of pictures here.
  6. Hi Mark Thanks for the kind comments. I think your right, weathering powders are the way forward for the shed as I don't think I would get the "dusty look" as you say, with paint. Just need to get hold of some now as I need some for my loco as well. Cheers Marcus.
  7. Thanks Trev. I'm really pleased I'm getting some positive comments about the weathering. It's something I've been shying away from for too long. Lack of bravery is the problem. Think I might have a go at some wagons next before attacking my more prized loco's. I'll have a go at the ploughs later although I'm unsure weather the loco will be keeping them yet. Many thanks for the comments mate. Off up to Birch Coppice in a bit so won't be far away from you this morning. Cheers Marcus.
  8. Morning Andy Sorry never responded last night. Had to retreat to bed after I posted the last two pictures. Thanks for the kind comments. Whose weathering powders do you recommend because that's something I need to get. Cheers Marcus
  9. Cheers Guys for all the help. Just removed a bit more.....
  10. Just attacked it with the cotton buds again. Not quite so dirty now.
  11. Hi Andy That's what I did do with the cotton buds. Perhaps I didn't do it enough. What type of paint do you use as these were acrylics. All suggestions greatly appreciated mate. Cheers Marcus
  12. Now no laughing please as this is a first attempt. Oh go on then if you must..... Thought I would have a play around with the spare body shell I had in the loft to see how I got on with trying out weathering. The chassis has been pinched from under one of my other 37s for the time being. Here's a couple of pictures how I've got on. I'll let you guys decide but personally I'm not overly impressed so far.
  13. Well done mate. Youre saving me a fortune in sound chips. HaHa. See you later when I've dumped this loco.
  14. That really does look the business mate. Top class work indeed.
  15. Can't be all work and no play though Jim. Had a very relaxing day whilst enjoying some nice really ales. You're right though, it's a lovely part of the world. Think I'll be doing it again very soon. Just need 424 to come out to play.
  16. I've got to say East West Divide I agree with you 100%. It's an area I really want to perfect before I go attacking my buildings and for that matter, my rolling stock as well. One of my pet hates is poorly executed weathering jobs. As I've now got the old loading shed sitting up in the loft that will be the ideal piece to practice on now.
  17. Greetings from Lowestoft.....
  18. Strictly tractors only. Not saying I wouldn't do a 68 for haulage but flagging a tractor to do it would be sacrilege. Pubs in Norwich. 5 min walk from the station.
  19. Just setting out on our second run to Great Yarmouth now. Decent pub with some proper Ales across the road from the station as well. The perfect day!!
  20. That's a bit spooky. That 37 is 37423' the one I'm currently sat behind in Norwich.
  21. Peak Dale Wood crew Live from Norwich. Not the layout HaHa. Here's a few more....
  22. Did manage to put some static grass around yesterday just to blend everything in a bit. We did have a nice running session yesterday which Anthony's done some video footage of. He'll post it up as soon as he's edited it. Meanwhile a couple of pictures
  23. The base colour will stay white for the time being until it gets weathered. I won't do it yet until I've perfected the finish I want on something else. Don't particularly want to ruin it just yet! The building at Peak Forest itself is still very white but does appear to have a light greyish weathing which I guess is just from the stone dust. Any tips mate would be greatly appreciated as always. Cheers Marcus
  24. Very nice Andy. Did you get a shot of the Metals 37 lurking in the back ground?
  25. Blimey Al, you have been busy. That's a cracking job you've made of the base boards. This really is coming along at a great rare of knots now. Shall look forward to seeing the track going down. Cheers Marcus
