  1. Hi Peter Cracking layout, looks great. I think you may have your numbers confused. Class 28 were CO-BO's and were confined to the Barrow area. Don't think they ever made it to Fort William. Marcus
  2. No problem Cav. As I've been chasing 37's for the last 24 years if you ever want any more info on them I probably know a "man who can". Just let me know. You're right about those viaducts there a helluva height. Got a right case of vertigo last time I was stood on it!!
  3. Hi Cav Got a response from WNXX regarding the construction livery on Tinsley 37's. Looks like 688 can be the only one. I have posted below the response from WNXX. "These are the repaint dates from Large Logo Blue/ Red Stripe Railfreight into Railfreight Construction that I have: 37411 10/89 37414 was repainted into Railfreight Distribution 08/89 but had symbols changed to Construction 10/90 37422 09/89 37425 12/89 37676 02/92 37677 11/91 37678 04/92 37679 01/91 37680 07/91 37681 03/89 37682 07/90 37684 ?/89 Would be interested if anyone has an exact date for this one. 37686 05/91 37687 02/89 37688 04/88 37683 was repainted in the newer Railfreight but didn't receive the Construction symbols or any other and I am unsure of the exact date but know it to be around 1989/1990. 37685 did not receive the newer version of Railfreight and went straight from Red Stripe to Intercity Swallow in 10/93" Thought I would post all dates in case it maybe of help to anyone else. Cheers Marcus
  4. Looking Good there Jim. GBRf 66 would look better though LOL!! Thanks for the picture of the Grid by the way, nice night shot. When I get round to getting my up to date stock chipped I'm sure a nice Colas Grid will look right at home in the timber siding in Kyle of Lochwilliam. Just got to make sure my GBRf 66 don't go over the side of the base board with the Alcan tanks though. I'm with you this week on days so won't get much done to my layout. On a Hams Hall - Willesden all week. Beats being a DSM by a long way though!!! See you soon mate. Marcus
  5. What a lovely looking layout. Really captures the atmosphere of a small TMD. With the semi rural setting and greenery it reminds me of Thornton Junction in Scotland. Do like the model of "Artemis". Very nice paint job. Look forward to seeing more. Marcus
  6. Cracking layout "Class 66". Love that model of 37107. Did you do that yourself?
  7. Hi Cav Nice to see a proper loco appearing at last. Don't worry only kidding. I have put a request on the WNXX forum in the liveries & paint section asking if anyone has any dates for when the Tinsley aggregates 37's were painted into construction livery. If I get any replies I will let you know asap. As John says you will be safe with 37688 as it was named on the 23rd June 1988 at Hindlow works. If you model this one though you will have to make it nice and shiny. As well as the grilles being changed there is also the fire extinguisher pulls that on the refurbs is located under the smaller grill on all four corners. Keep up the good work. Marcus
  8. Looking good Cav. Can't beat a nice bit of timber to get stuck into. Nice to see construction of the layout starting and I shall wait with interest to seeing it start to develop. Keep us posted.
  9. Ah so that's where I've been going wrong. Thought it was cut ONCE go to the builders merchants TWICE!!
  10. Great news and good luck with the new job Cav. Looking forward to seeing the layout building starting to commence.
  11. Hi Jim Looking good there mate. Still plenty of time for modelling with the new job I see and I take it that new shed will be full of Colas work horses. Hope you are Well. Marcus
  12. They certainly do. You wonder whats going to come out when you walk towards them. Headstone tunnel looks even stranger at the Bakewell end with a large metal cage erected to stop rocks falling on your head. There are more of my pictures of the Monsal trail here: http://marcussrailwayphotos.smugmug.com/Dis-usedRailwayWalks/Monsal-Trail/26184445_wgCvTP#!i=2177759775&k=GPqcXFS I hope that eventually they'll extend the trail back towards Darley Dale through Haddon tunnel as that one is quite interesting and also quite long. Must admit I have been following your layout as well which is looking good. Love the Peak District and hope to be back up soon. Normally stop in Bakewell in Melbourne House guest house.
  13. That sounds a good idea as you can bring Litton tunnel and Chee Tor Number 1 tunnel closer to the station. This too will also add a bit of interest due to the two different profiles of the tunnels. Chee Tor being the more traditional profile.
  14. I must have to much time on my hands today as I'm spending far to much time on here. I was just reading your original post again and you were asking for suggestions about the possible traffic into the yard for local agriculture. Thinking about it the most obvious would be fertilizer traffic for keeping that grass nice and green. Plenty of Nitrogen needed in the peaks due to the amount of lime in the soil. The other thing I thought about was Milk traffic. Although the six wheeled tankers had gone by the eighties DRS did a trial in the 90's using road tankers in piggyback wagons. you would just need to assume BR thought of it first. As you said in your original post palletised animal feed is another option which could be transported in Cargowaggons etc.
  15. Hi Cav I have been looking through my photos of my trip up to Millers Dale last year. The two structures shown below I believe are both in the vicinity of the yard which may be of interest. Old water tank which is which was on the left hand side looking towards Buxton and adjacent to the old lime stone kilns as shown below. There are also the remains of some old lime stone kilns to the Bakewell end of the station but unfortunately I forgot to photograph these as I was to eager to get to the place pictured below. Looking on your plan this will need to be included as well.
  16. Hi Cav Great to see your stock coming along nicely. Personally I can't see any problem at all mixing up the signalling with semaphore and colour lights. If anything it will just add to the interest of the layout. There is certainly nothing un-prototypical about it. You only have to look at Banbury which is a real mix of the two signalling systems. In fact only a few years ago there were two brand new semaphores erected at the south end of the station which allowed upward moves towards London from platforms 1 and 3. The good thing is your layout is "what if" so you can basically do what you like. There are some good pictures of Banbury on the layout thread of the same name which shows the mixture of signalling. Keep up the good work. Marcus
  17. Hi Ian No problem, glad to be of help. There's a good possibility 67017 might be left in the up bay on Friday as we are supposed to be commandeering that tomorrow or Wednesday. Marcus.
  18. Hi Ian 67010 was at Banbury as we had been using it for route learning Crewe. We took it back as far as Banbury so a Marylebone driver could pick it up later in the day to take it back to Wembley for an "A" exam. Two weeks before hand we had left the The Aylesbury bubble car, 55020, there at the same time. So you have an excuse for a model of that sat in the up bay as well. By the way fantastic layout. Marcus
  19. Really looking forward to seeing this layout develop. We go up to the Peak district at least twice a year as we love the area so much. Certainly some stunning scenery to model there. Managed to walk the entire length of the Monsal trail this year since the tunnels have been opened up. Having ended up at Millers Dale twice it certainly looks like an interesting location to model, from the impressive viaduct to the disused lime stone kilns. If its of any use I have put a link to my Smugmug site which has quite a few pic's of Millers Dale itself and other structures on the Monsal Trail. http://marcussrailwayphotos.smugmug.com/Dis-usedRailwayWalks/Monsal-Trail/26184445_wgCvTP#!i=2177759775&k=GPqcXFS If you do go there to do some research I thoroughly recommend the "Anglers Rest" public house. Good selection of local real ale and decent food. Marcus
