Isn't there a saying along the lines of, "Dogs have owners, cats have staff" ? A truism in my experience.

Which begs the question of just who are they going to fight ???
Surely you can only have a 'war' when two sides want to fight , the non Trumpers wont
need to fight anyone as they will be happy with the result .
And even 'millions' spread over the USA will leave them pretty thin on the ground .
I’ma ready for anything!

If I lose the original spring I cut a piece of top E nickel coated steel guitar string, commonly used on electric guitars. Mine are .010 gauge which is quite a bit thicker than the original but it still works. Acoustic strings could be a bit too thick, but worth a try if that's what you've got. If you have to buy one specially then the smallest commonly available (.008) is probably the one to go for.
Thanks for that. I think there’s a music shop in Meadowhall.

Sorry can’t help with the dismantling but what do you use for replacement springs?

I know all about it. Not moved under its own power for about 8 years. Last time I drove it was from having a major service (costing approximately 4 noisey Deltics) and the day after I lost my driving license. Pah and double turdy curses. When I retire……..

Oh yes….I saw a certain black Bentley convertible today - the same one I’ve seen on 3 previous occasions over a number of weeks. How do I know? Cos’ it makes a very distinctive sound - like one of the brakes is intermittently binding. The owner must have the IQ of a plant pot not to get that looked at.

A well known fact, Bentley's are for those who like to drive, Rolls Royces are for those who like to be driven.

Not live steam or 5” gauge but I do have plans for post retirement! I did have a permanent layout at my first house but just as it got completed we moved house. That’s 20years ago.

Evening All,
Did manage a bit of the G word even if I only managed to cut the green stuff.
Nothing else to report so good night.

Used on wagonways to allow the horses to proceed without tripping over transverse sleepers. Some early steam railways were laid on them, just in case the engines might have to be replaced by horses. Their lack of resiliency was a contribution to rail breakages (as well as loco weight) and they also were prone to going out of gauge due to the weight of the locos.
Good for horses and chaldron wagons, but that was about their limit.
I just thought they may have dedicated name rather than ‘stone block sleeper’

Jeez, we swear a lot.
Thanks for that, it certainly kept me awake. I wonder if the singer/guitarist bares any resemblance to @iL Dottore when he’s having a thrash on one of his guitars? (Half way through video)

Silktone Wagonway, Barnsley.
Dont known what the stones are called but there are literally dozens of them from Silkstone to Cawthorne basin where there was an interchange with a canal.

Afternoon,
An hour this morning dealing with emails and phone calls then after taking Hovis out we took mil out to garden centre for lunch. Now stuck at mils where her and swmbo are doing a jigsaw. Rather be at home doing a bit of the G word.
Down wear a watch or any type of jewellery.
When i did have a watch i constantly played about with the strap/clasp until it broke.
Ive got a very good sense of time and can usually gauge the time to within 10minutes after not seeing a clock for a couple of hours.
If we dont make a move soon eyelid inspection may be resorted to.

Much skipping has happened as I try and get the books in order.
Thoughts with @Dave Hunt and hopefully recovery will be ‘unremarkable’ from now on.

Long post, feel free to ignore and please don't offer me supportive emoticons, I'm just writing this down to get it out of my system 😀
And the reason for this ? In the early 2000s I started using what I will call a linux distro - it's actually more of a glorified How To, with the emphasis on learning. In those days, the usable software you could build and run on a desktop was limited. After a while I got into editing the main book. Later, there was a shortage of people to handle the "other things you can build" (desktop and server packages). I got snuckered into that and gradually stopped updating the original book. So far, so good. But I've never done computer studies. Gradually I picked up TeXLive (a programming language for creating prints or PDFs) after somebody noticed that the way we bootstrapped it left a few binary programs. Managed to find (old) examples of using those parts, created test files, and ended up doing all the updates for those.
About three and a half years ago, with another guy, I instituted Security Announcements so that people who actually use the distro can avoid vulnerabilities. I'm pleased with that part.
Then about 3 years ago one of the main toolkits went to "releases are for paying customers only, becoming public after 12 months" (they needed to persuade users to move to their latest version, but the main free software user has only just done that). In the meantime, the engine of the web browser was a fork of chromium and therefore had to be available under the GPL license. And web browsers, along with the infernal javascript processors, are things which need to be up to date in the current Wild West of the internet. But no releases, clone the main part and the sub-tree whenever it looked as if they were ready for a release, then try to get it to build on a current (arguably bleeding-edge) system. Much of the hard work had been done by other distros, otherwise I would never have got anywhere with it. Now, that is all over, back to using releases.
But meanwhile the number of packages and releases has grown astronomically and there are knock-on effects from updates to the rust language (one of the guys seems to be up to speed with that, but I don't understand the fixes he finds) and that slithering language (Python-3.12 - that really is bleeding edge, it breaks a lot).
In the end, I could not keep up with it and I started losing track of which steps in a process I had, or had not, done (e.g. did a final security advisory this afternoon, forgot to pull the current git tree, created the advisory, tried to push it, discovered I was out of date. Fortunately I was able to renumber it, fix up the links, and push. I'm now on extended leave of absence, and learning to ignore things.
Now to turn one of my guitar amps up to 11 😈
Don’t really understand your post but obviously it’s causing you some grief but hopefully it will get sorted.
Good luck.

I see your sheriff in Florida and raise you a Presidential candidate!
Former President Donald Trump recently gave a glimpse into how his next administration would urge law enforcement to handle shoplifters if he wins the White House in 2024 − by shooting them in the store.
"We will immediately stop all of the pillaging and theft. Very simply: If you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store," he said Friday during a speech to California Republicans.
His comments drew applause from members of his party inside the Anaheim convention and he loudly said “shot” again for emphasis.
Immediately conjured up thoughts of the Looney Tunes character Yosemite Sam.

Evening, I also went this year, first time since 2019. I was a little disappointed though I had looked at the hall plan and seen that hall7 had about a quarter of its area taken over by Lego (and rug rats) and some of my favorite traders would be absent. I model N gauge and previously there were three traders that specialized, almost exclusively in my scale. Layouts were also a little underwhelming thought the French HO one was, as you say the pick of the bunch though the O gauge one was also good. Funnily enough one of my favorites was the Nm9 layout on the Noch trade stand which you photographed.
My wife and I flew to Bonn/Koln airport on Friday morning and spent the day in Koln and then went to our hotel in Dortmund which we’ve used several times is very close to the main station and is at the end of the main shopping street. (Useful for when I disappear to the exhibition.) We flew back on Monday evening after rather a hectic and tiring weekend.
In the past I’ve visited several exhibitions in Germany and Holland and Intermodelbau was my favorite and one I’d rather not miss. Now I’m not so sure, I went to an exhibition in Friedrichafen in November and enjoyed that. I’ve been to Eurospoor in Utrecht quite a few times but I think that may have finished now which is a shame.
Robert
Weather in Köln , terrible, Dortmund and Monday, pleasant.
