  1. Evening Wheels & rods test fitted last night so I took it down the club tonight & pushed it through some point work, all is well. Brake gear & frame overlays next. I'm not sure how much more I'll get done this week as I've a few bits a bobs to get ready for the Gnosall show at the weekend. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/119176-staffordshire-finescale-group-modelling-showcase-8th-july-2017/page-1&do=findComment&comment=2587795 cheers Chris
  2. Also I'll take the opportunity to share this event this weekend featuring The Mill & six other great finescale layouts. Cheers Chris
  3. Evening all. I managed to get a bit more done on the Q1 this evening. Rods built up & horn blocks installed & a temporary CSB wire fitted. It might be a bit early in the Build to say this but this being my first go at CSB I was a bit nervous about it but it's all going well so far. Wheels & brake gear tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed. Cheers Chris
  4. Don't Get Mw Wrong - The Bonzo Dog Doo- Dah Band
  5. Expecting to Fly - Buffalo Springfield
  6. Evening, I have managed to make a start on the Q1 & after a few hours this is where I'm at . Frames mid assembly, and here the frames are assembled with the CSB anchors & wire installed. Also all eight High Level horn blocks made up with the CSB carrier tags from the kit fitted. More tomorrow hopefully. Cheers Chris
  7. Evening. Right then, after nearly a year since my last post on here I've finally got something to show. I've been asked to test build a new set of etches for a LNER Q1 (GNR K1) created by Frank Davies a fellow member at Shipley & the driving force behind the Clayton project we currently have underway. Frank has already created a set of etches for a LNER Q2 & I believe this is going to be made available as a full kit via London Road Models later this year. Assuming all goes well with this test build for the Q1 I think this to will become available via LRM at a later date. Here are the etches laid out, wheels, motor, High Level horn blocks, WD handrail knobs (for the CSB) & tender. When complete the loco will be running on Clayton but I'm yet to identify which number it'll be. Here is a pic of one for anyone who is not familiar with the prototype. I'll do my best to make regular updates as the build progresses. Work has continued at a somewhat slow pace in the background on the LRM J4 & the quad set & will continue to but the Q1 has been bumped to the top of the pile for now. Cheers for now. Chris
  8. This whole thing is so far removed from railway modelling it's ridiculous, just look at that ridiculous 'track'. I know it's supposed to be all fluffy & nice & reckoned to help bring/introduce people to the hobby but come on what a shower of crappy shite it looks the be. People camped out along the route with production crew in toe no doubt lathering the whole thing in false jeopardy. As is the way with most 'let's build a thing' TV these days. How hard would it have been to get half a dozen decent modellers to gas on about their layouts & how they created it & spread that out over six of so episodes. This would have been far more valid rather than just creating some lowest common denominator TV. Cheers Chris
  9. Afternoon all, A huge thank you to all at MRJ & to Karl Crowther for including our humble little layout The Mill in this issue. MRJ is a constant inspiration to me as a modeller & has taught me much. I'll take this opportunity to share the details of the layouts next outing, this will be a small high quality show with a relaxed atmosphere. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/119176-staffordshire-finescale-group-modelling-showcase-8th-july-2017/ Cheers Chris
  10. Morning Just a little reminder that The Mill plus six other excellent layouts will be at the first Staffordshire Finescale Group & Friends show Sat 8th July. This is going to be an excellent showcase with a relaxed atmosphere. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/119176-staffordshire-finescale-group-modelling-showcase-8th-july-2017/ Cheers Chris

  12. Evening Chris How about those foil tubes that tomato puree comes in? It should have the right sort of thickness & resistance you want for keeping its shape but you may have the same issues regards painting as with kitchen foil. Cheers Chris
  13. Evening Phil The reality & likely hood of all you mention above is not wasted on me. It doesn't take a genius to see it for what it is/will be. I suppose what has prompted me to air an opinion is the connection it's gained with Railway Modelling, I really can't see one. It may as well be a Scalextric running the length of the M62. Maybe that'll be the second series. Cheers Chris
  14. Evening... If the photo below, taken from the link depicts the track & stock they are planning to use in this show then the relevance & connection with railway modelling is at best tenuous. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4566462/Model-train-track-weave-record-74-MILES.html The only way this show could really have any credibility within the hobby would be to include in each episode (ideally multiple) short pieces focusing on different & specific elements of the hobby (not just the RTR end of it), visits to clubs, well executed privet layouts, garden railways & the like around the country & possibly interviews or short 'how to' pieces with the creators. Also, explore the exhibition scene, show how incredible social hobby is. I don't see that this would detract from the shows primary goal of creating entertainment via the efforts of people who don't know each other rubbing along under less than ideal conditions undergoing an ambitious (putting it kindly) challenge. Cheers Chris
  15. Heres a few more crap photos that didn't make the cut. Waiting with great excitement for first sightings of MRJ 255 in north Leeds. Cheers Chris
