  1. I have seen Fail Safe, hence my "arguably". Fail safe was a very good movie, but I lean towards Dr Strangelove. George C Scott's performance in that is also up there with the best. Best Scott
  2. In all honesty I don't want to make shunts and moves too easy, forcing a degree of planning in between arrivals/departures. I had considered that such situations existed on the prototype. Bay 5 and 6 traffic will be exclusively DMU operated. Having said that, along with colour light installation, track rationalisation would probably have occured, so I'm sure you are correct. But wouldn't rationalisation have gone the other way, to remove slips, etc? In any case, the reason for the post was plausibility of signals being in the tunnel. It seems there are many examples. The Tunnel in question on the model will be Hilton, south of Perth in real life, and I see there are signals in there on teh diagram you kindly posted. Best Scott
  3. I couldn't agree more. I have the blu ray version. As an opening scene, I'm struggling to think of anything better in all honesty. The locomotive wheezing away as the heavies, twitchy, alert, anticipate the arrival of their quarry........ The rhythmic squeak of the water pump turbine both before and after the all too brief action...... If only Bronson had made an effort to actually suck/blow when "playing" the harmonica. But, hey, what's a masterpiece if it isn't at least slightly flawed. I would dearly love to see it re-issued to cinema. Henry Fonda cast as the villain is a masterstroke, and you can tell he relishes the opportunity to get his teeth into the role, having hitherto being almost typecast as the hero. Arguably the performance of his career. Glad I've found a fellow devotee.
  4. Ah okay. I was thinking both were movie references. Well played, oh tracked one.
  5. I can sympathise with this view greatly. I will probably make a mess of this post and say something wrong so I'm not really going to say anything else on the above except to say, I get where you're coming from. And sometimes real life is grim enough, without immersing ourselves in artificial grimness as well. But as C6T says, RDR2 actually allows us to make this artificial world a better place. I've never "killed" a character that I didn't "need to", not intentionally anyway. And I've not knowingly killed a civilian. Any vilain I catch that the game allows me to set free I do. When hunting I always try and make the kill as clean and stress free (for the animal) as possible. Some may view that as taking things too far. But it allows me to play the game without the dark side of it getting into my head. I should also say that I've never robbed a random or a stagecoach, etc, that wasn't a mission. I've actually just returned to RDR2 after an extended hiatus, and funnily enough just gotten into chapter 4. We've just moved camp to Shady Belle and the missions are taking place in and around St Denis. Got m'self a brand new set of fancy duds as well, and a new hairdo for Binky. I do hope Arthur gets to eventually settle down with Molly.............. Best Scott.
  6. Okay, let's try this again. Down Main now has access to Platforms 1, 2, 5 and 3 Up Main has access from Platforms 2, 5, 6, 4 and 7 (Also Platforms 1 and 3, but not directly by design) Platform 7 and the Motorail sidings have no direct access from Down Main, but that's okay, it adds shunting interest; and so access to either of these either from a Down track or an Up track requires at least one reversal. The trailing crossover allows P5 to gain access to the Up Main and allows shunts to/from Platform 1 from/to Platform 7 & Motorail. I've avoided slips. I think this works, but based on my previous post i may have missed something fundamental..........
  7. no I only get the obvious one.........
  8. You are correct. regarding platform 2. I've clearly made a change at some point and not changed it back because originally it was a facing crossover in that position. I was trying to avoid the use of slips, but it may come to that. I will go away and try and sort this out. Sorry for wasting anyone's time........ Best Scott
  9. The trailing crossover is for shunting of stock between platforms/sidings. Best Scott Actually ignore that. Rather embarrassingly, I've just realised this approach will not work as there is no way for down trains to access platform three. I suspect it will be a case of making the trailing crossover a facing one, but I'll need to look at it properly. I'm not sure what I was thinking there. Best Scott
  10. Stranger faces off across the tracks from three heavies. Stranger: You Frank ? Heavy 1: Frank Sent us Stranger: You bring a horse for me? Heavy 2: Looks like........looks like we're shy one horse! Heavies laugh Stranger : (Shakes head) You brought two too many Gunfight ensues........
  11. Hopefully a plan of the approach is attached. Platforms 1 and 3 are through Down platforms Platforms 2 and 4 are through UP platforms (2 is to be signalled bidirectional but this would be used sparingly) Platforms 5, 6 and 7 are UP facing bays. The two sidings at the very top are UP facing motorail bays. Line speed for all traffic is maximum 30MPH There are no slips, only two diamond crossings.
  12. Thanks to everyone who replied, it's all very enlightening. Based on what some of you have said, it would seem to be acceptable to imagine that the signal is within the tunnel, and therefore not incorrect to not have one at the exit mouth. Best Scott
  13. That’s only true to a point. The class 21/29 was proposed early on, but didn’t make the cut. The 35T tanks (for which I was one of the original proposers and promoters) struggled initially, but just prior to the order book closing uptake swelled and in actually fact the final order tally was very good according to Mike, and the project more than washed its face. Sturgeon made the grade well and went to tooling quickly. The Cemflos are in tooling which indicates uptake is at least acceptable. And the 35T class A tanks are in the pipeline now too. All of these prototypes originate at least in the transition era. In any case, for me it’s academic. Transition era has been/is well served by Farish and to an extent Dapol, so I’m more than happy for other eras to now get a similar support. i just wish sometimes Farish and Dapol could be as quick with production as some of Revolution, accurascale, etc., models have been.
  14. I think the recent posts here have been a fair reflection on the situation. It is commendable that Farish (& Dapol to an extent) have ceased making large announcements every year - promises they can't keep - but this change in policy a few years ago was ostensibly to allow them to concentrate on delivering projects. It may be an illusion, but it doesn't feel like the delivery situation has improved in that respect. Despite delivering well received models in the Class 40 and C Class for example, we still seem to be waiting just as long if not longer for items to come to market. With Kader running their own factories, it seems to suggest that Farish within the group is viewed as a very very low priority; although Bachman Branchline also seem to have their problems bringing items to market in OO. Personally I'm fortunate in that ,aside from a few tens of Mk1 Maroon coaches, I don't need that much now for my layout. But a new batch of Mk1 Maroons (I really need BSKs the most) doesn't seem to be anywhere on the horizon. Ditto Maroon Thompsons. I'll take a few more 40s when they are re-released in green, but they are nice to haves, as is the 8F on order, rather than essential to what I want to do with my model railway. It is all rather frustrating though. It is wonderful for sectorisation and post privatisation modellers what RevolutioN are doing for the hobby, and the attention they give to the modern N Gauger is fantastic, but there's a little piece of me that wishes I had they had the time, desire and confidence in the market to start making Maroon coaches and green DMUs! Best Scott.
  15. Thanks Jim. As in not a three aspect Red Yellow Green then, but a conventional ground signal? Best Scott
  16. I have a question for the signalling/PW experts. My layout imagines a tunnel at about 3/4 of a mile long. There is a set of turnouts 111ft from the tunnel portal which is the start of the station approach pointwork. Would the signal protecting the turnouts be on exit from the tunnel, in the tunnel or at the entry to the tunnel at the other end? Time frame is 1962-64, with recently commissioned colour light signals and theatre boards. Best Scott
  17. They do look very fine indeed. Now they are almost to market, perhaps Dapol could develop an N gauge version and then my layout fleet would be (almost) complete.
  18. Interesting approach, and not one I'd considered. To be clear, you mean one circuit breaker (PSX or A N Other), but with separate [power districts downstream of it switched separated simply by switches. Short occurs, switch out each district until system recovers? It would certainly mean a short on the "far side" of the layout wouldn't go un-noticed..........
  19. It depends on whether your baseboard is for a permanent or mobile layout. If it's the former, I would argue that there is nothing wrong with over-engineered, and certainly preferable to "Just enough", in my view. My permanent, garage based woodwork, is all 9mm thick ply, 100mm deep open frame, with 9mm ply for the track bed on risers as well. And that's for N gauge. You could argue that's over-engineered, but for me 6mm track bed was too flimsy on 300mm spaced risers. The open frame baseboard is mounted on a CLS frame screwed to the wall and floor. I guarantee it will not move. Now, if you want to move a layout for exhibitions, or putting up/taking down in the home, then that's different and compromises would have to be made. Horses for courses, really. Best Scott
  20. I think rather than bemoaning the issue, England should seriously sit down and consider WHY that tendency exists. One would strongly suggest it is not simply out of petty sporting spite.........
  21. Ian, Rather embarrassingly, you have reminded me that I do in fact have the True Line on CD! How could I forget about that?! Thank you for that, I shall dig it out and have a look. Best Scott
