  1. For the avoidance of doubt and for clarification, my proposal was to move the locomotive storage section either to the right-most of these tracks or add a sixth track for that purpose. With the use of a number of curved turnouts, you might be able to maintain the number of locomotive sidings. Looking again, Looking again, you wouldn't, but it might still be worth looking at for the benefit of easier access. Best Scott
  2. I wonder, if it would be possible for you to put the locomotive sidings on the left hand (Vertical) wall? It would make access for turning them, etc., easier, than having to lean over the scenic layout.....
  3. Thanks Keefer. I had a look at the Glasgowstory site, but only came up with one image. Not seeing much with the mitchell library either but I'll keep looking. I remembered that Glasgow Urban site had lots of pictures, but I didn't remember any drawings so I'm trawling through that thread just now as well. Best Scott
  4. Does anyone of the collective have or know where I could find drawings of the Station Buildings at Buchanan Street, the rebuilt version post 1930s? I've had a look at the CRA Forum, but not found anything there. Does anyone know if there is anything in public archives, such as NRM, Glasgow Uni., etc? All help and direction gratefully received. Best Scott
  5. I wonder if it might be better to have the loco storage tracks as single sidings, loco length, rather like the old Le Mans starting grid. If that makes sense? It should mean fewer turnouts no chance of any locos being trapped. Best Scott https://www.motorsport.com/vintage/photos/grid4-gt40-starting/178624/
  6. That looks really interesting, and a solution to the problem I haven't thought of or seen before. I do think your original idea will be the most reliable in terms of uncoupling/coupling. Best Scott
  7. Wow. Just Wow. That is stunning! Thoroughly, thoroughly well done!
  8. Worsley do the 79xxx (the ones you describe as pre-126) in 2mm/Ngauge, albeit not in stock at the last count, so Alan may be agreeable to producing in 4mm. I plan on using the chassis from Dapol's N gauge 120/121 as it's a similar drive unit.
  9. This site here should help. The 79xxx were 3-car sets, operated in 6-car sets for the Edinburgh-Glasgow Express route, but also used for a short time on the WR from Birmingham on limited routes. https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/swindon-79xxx/ The 126 were similar, deployed on the Glasgow-Ayr route and worked in either 3- or 6-car formations. https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/class-126/
  10. Another interesting turn in the conversation. In fairness, whilst it could be argued that FIFA is a football simulator, it really isn't a simulator in the truest sense. For that, we'd need a holo-deck a la Star Trek NG, holgraphic players, etc. and so the game is far removed from going out and kicking a ball. Which I still do, but that's to get a different kind of enjoyment. Shooting aliens (and Zombies, for that ,matter) leaves me cold. Not my bag at all. For me, it takes that suspension of realism just a step or two too far. Storming the last extant Rhine bridge, that's rigged to blow by the Jerries, however............. There was even a bit of eye moisture when Soap died in the COD saga. Now, back to FIFA, I only need 20,000 more coins in Fifa Ultimate Team mode before I can afford AUbameyang!
  11. A Black 5 is a good shout, actually, to a similar level to that promised by Farish's upcoming 8F.
  12. Indeed, RDR2 is one of the games that started the "PC-gamer-whining, justified-or-not?" branch of this thread. The size of the sandbox is huge in RDR2, relatively speaking, with rendered terrain of a fantastic level of detail. All of it entirely justified in my view, likewise the hit in storage space.
  13. Thanks for that Roy. It is a little concerning that potentially, their N Gauge strategy/future is based on the sales of a geographically, and chronologically restricted prototype. I hope it's a success, but I just can't justify one to run through Glasgow North...........
  14. This is actually an interesting discussion. C6 makes the point in his OP that PC gamers have the luxury of unlimited (to a point) expansion opportunities, whilst us poor console gamers have to make do with inferior games and inferior storage flexibility, and Nate (I love that C6, you Naughty Dog!) is bemoaning that he has to take advantage of one of the biggest advantages he, as a PC gamer has. Forgive me if my heart doesn't bleed - hey, I'm sure he's a lovely guy, seriously; but well we're discussing problems that are perhaps elevated above first world in nature. On the topic of progress, it got me thinking. I've just purchased FIFA 20, and initial thoughts are that it's not a huge improvement on FIFA 19, which wasn't a huge improvement on FIFA18, which wasn't a huge......you get the picture. But the point is, there are improvements and if we look back we can see that all these increments add up. I think back to FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 (?) on the PS1, and you just wouldn't want to still be playing that game. And then I think on the very first FIFA issue, on the Mega Drive. Look at the size of the map on RDR2 and GTA5 compared with their previous incarnations. These games are much better for that bigger sand pit. I for one am happy to take the hit in storage space, without potentially time consuming compression of files, etc, for that increased playability, enjoyment and, heaven knows, escapism. Best Scott
  15. I think the download timescale issue is a valid point, but to be fair, the comments from the chap didn’t mention any of that, just the HDD space issue............ Just seemed a bit of a whine to me. File size is always the price of progress to my mind.
  16. I completely agree with your response, C6T. I have to say, I couldn't read Mr Grayson's text without hearing a twinge of whining. I don't understand. HDDs aren't the money pits they used to be. Just upgrade "darn it!", to borrow a phrase. Seriously, if you can afford the latest titles fresh off the release conveyor, you can afford to supplant/replace your HDD. In other news, I honestly wasn't aware of the 4TB limit for PS4 expansion. Is this per drive, or total? I can't plug in another 4TB in the other USB socket?........ asking for a friend. And finally, I succumbed and bought FIFA 20 last night. In the cold light of day, I'm ashamed as I have a feeling I only did it to keep up with the FUT joneses, there was nothing I didn't like about FIFA 19 in that respect. Shame on me....... Best Scott
  17. Tony, Are you going to have a stand at the Festival of Railway Modelling at Doncaster or Model Rail Scotland, both in February next year? Best Scott
  18. Many thanks Jason, that looks great. Being an N Gauge transition modeller I wasn't aware of that supplier. Quite a few options for which I will have to do some research. And practicing of coach building skills. Best Scott
  19. Does anyone know what the options are for suitable Caledonian Coaches to match the as-built time scale? I'm aware if any it would be kit built.....
  20. This may be of interest, DH87B Hornet Moth G-ADLY at Perth, June 2007:
  21. At first glance it looks like a Hornet Moth, but i'd need to check to be absolutely sure.... EDIT: Yes, G-AHBM is Hornet Moth, owner is addressed at Goathland
  22. I have code 40 from British FineScale and am planning on using the chairs provided, painted cream and then mounted on the sleepers, to give the impression of insulated pots.
  23. The main issue is the first one. You can move the subject further away, but you run the risk of the paint drying before it strikes the surface of the subject. Reference the third issue, the pressure from an (hobby) air brush is that much less than a rattle can, and can be only a few psi if desired, and so it is less susceptible to creep under the masking. I and others are not saying don't do it, for we have no authority to say so, obviously. We are just saying that experience suggests it's a riskier endeavour than using the correct tool. The purchase of a mid-range airbrush, for less than the price of your Class 50, would repay itself in future tasks and versatility. Best Scott
  24. I think Paul and Nick are referring more to the lack of control an aerosol will give. A rattle can will deliver, a large amount of paint in a short space of time, with no ability to alter the pressure. It is "on" or "Off". There is a danger therefor of having too thick a layer of paint in one go, which can result in "Orange Peel", "lumpiness", reaction to varnishes, etc. An airbrush is much easier to control, pressure-wise, and paint volume-wise and will allow you to deliver lots of very very thin coats, almosts mists, of paint. This will give much better results in the long run. A rattle can can and does work when painting larger areas, for instance I have used halfords car aerosols for painting whole coaches and CCTs, but I wouldn't personally use it for the type of job you are talking about. EDIT: That said, I realise that that was not the question you asked and apologise. I would always recommend primer in the situation you're describing. At the very least grey (Tamiya is my go to) but white would probably be better (again I like Tamiya).
