Excellent Rob , they were rare even when new

He's had it a long time, will be getting a good tidy up soon.

Used to regularly drive it Guildford to Grosmont when we went up there, his dad owned 50027,at that time I had a Cavalier GSI replica, really should have got a pic of them together.

    Hello all,

Ive managed to hi-jack the scanner at work and brought in some photos which I hope will be of use. Its nice to see many people taking interest in the Pacers that used to work in the north east. Like I've said, just about every journey I had at the time started on one, so I ended up having an affection for the little workhorses, never mind nodding donkeys.

The whole choc and cream / skipper convo pushed me to get this done. Have been meaning to do it for a while to try and help Charlie with the project. Ive got some photos, of the units towards the end of sectorisation, these must be from about 95 ish onwards. I would have been about 12 and spending my pocket money on films and development at Boots.

Heres one I remember well. 142026 was always a favourite as I am sure that this was the last one in Choc and Cream. The yellow doors on the original livery units never got repainted. These lasted until Northern Spirit took over the franchise and these units all in choc and cream or provincial were all the ones that went into 'NS'. The unit is above at Battersby, the usual exchange of tokens allowing a chance to jump off and grab a photo.

I'm sure I remember reading 26 was to be done with yellow doors when the 142s by charlie were first announced. It would be perfect. Although he has chosen no. 20, which might be better changing to Tyne and Wear as that one was painted into that livery first.

'26 again about to go for a run down the Coast at Newcastle. It was rare for me to get a chance to get to Newcastle as I usually cycled to Durham or got the train to Darlington.

    Speaking of Darlington...

142021 in the bay at Darlington on platform 2. Always a favourite spot as the units would happily bounce into the station on the jointed track in the bay. A sight that pretty much just changed only with the livery as the units worked the duties to Saltburn from Darlo for years. To be honest Tyne and Wear has always been my favourite livery (indulges in paint froth mode). It looked smart and bright for a little branch line unit. While others were admiring the HSTs, 91's or passing freight I was always waiting for the 142 to rev and then charge off on another run. It was always an iconic sound watching at the south of the station with a unit having been started up and then revving the engine to build up air pressure - one setting for the sound chip on on these please Charlie?

Hope these are of interest. Will try and add more later.

Nice photos, love the one at Battersby, we used to holiday near Whitby regularly, hence my photos earlier, so like yourself I've always had a soft spot for them, never got to see a Skipper  on the branch though. Only Skipper I got on was 025 between Beverley and Hull in 1998,half day on Friday at college there, couldn't believe it when it rolled in under the roof!

I went to school on them along the Esk Vslley line to Whitby in the mid 90s to early 2000s and we had a mix of Provincial, T&W, Skipper, Reggie Rail, and once memorably a Northern Spirit branded one. All the ones painted by BR had the same seat patterns on the covers but the colours changed to match the livery and for some reason yhe Skippers seemed to be more comfortable and generally better than the T&W ones for some reason.

Just how I remember them from that era.

142021 at Glaisdale and the other pair near Danby.

At the current rate, Provincial or Skipper will be the first to sell out.

If you check the photo below, the N gauge model from Dapol re the roof is 100% wrong on their latest batch, before you ask, we are not doing an N Gauge one.

Be Nice in 0 Gauge though !!

Well, Bullet bitten in the Servant's wing of F-Unit Towers....

My Teddy Bear is in bits, and cab removed for remedial works, especially the 'wrong' door. Above the handles have been removed, and pencil lines taken across the door for location marks.

Below, the new lower recessed part has been drilled & filed out, backed with thin plasticard. The upper handle plate is another small bit of plasticard, and the original handles glued back in place. Original holes filled in with putty.

The roundel has also been removed with 1200-grit wet'n'dry paper, used very wet!!

I found one of the connecting rod retaining screws on the jackshaft counterweight was working loose, & has had to be tightened up. A bit more lube on the worm & gears has also helped smooth the running as well.

Looking good,I shall be doing the  same with mine  as and when I get round to it.

The KA was the only vehicle in the range that was not given cavity rustproofing at the factory body in white stage.

It was primarily a cheap car and was expected not to be used as much as it did….or as popular.

The Fiesta/Puma were rustproofed at BiW, unfortunately the Puma had unique panels which were not given the testing they should have and it lead to missing areas (usually down to lack of vent gaps to enable dip coverage) of protection.

In particular the lower A pillar area and plenum chamber on the KA were the really bad spots, but it took a good few years to become apparent…..a lot more than a FIAT or especially Lancia

The KA can and did rust pretty much everywhere, I welded a rear sill on a 5 year old one, shame they were like that as they handled quite good and were a doddle to work on.

  8. Mine arrived yesterday, fantastic model, runs and sounds perfect straight out the box, must admit I'm not keen on the cab colour so will be repainting it,also noted is the lamps should be body colour aswell as the thin sole bar.

Another item but not easy rectified is,with the long bonnet to the right, the cab door handles are on the wrong side of the door.

As a big fan of the 14s non of this has put me off getting another sometime, its much better than building another DJH kit.

I will be interested in seeing the MM1 built, I am aware of the Heljan issues and have quite a critical eye on class 37s; I thought long and hard before I bought my Heljan 37 and looked at the MM1 model at the time but came to the conclusion that the Heljan model with some work is OK and in Blue the issues are not that noticeable and didn't justify the price difference to the cost of fully building the MM1 version which I also think has a couple of issues, particularly at the cantrail area.

The other option you have is to put a MM1 bodyshell on a Heljan chassis, my dad did this as he didn't like the look of the Heljan one, also added in were various bogie and underframe details.

Email Laurie at MM1 and he'll send you the parts list and you can then see what you'll need.
