  1. Thanks Dougal, yes it does, the coupling rods on it are one piece so there's no compensation or side play which doesn't help,ok through Peco points but that's about it, I think the weight of it helps keep it on the track, which as you've pointed will probably help yours.

I'm a big fan of the 14s so I'll be getting some Minerva ones when they come out.

No only 4 or 5 had airbrakes. It's not cheap but think of the hours of fun you get making it!

Quite right Brian, sometimes its the journey not the destination that makes it.

Will look forward to seeing how you do the wasp stripes,I was building a class 04 recently and was doing ok (by my standards)  until I came to them and made a right dogs dinner of it,any hints or tips greatly welcome.

Not sure for me. Think the 1100 Fiat engines (Seicento Sporting, etc) were non interference.

Non interfere is going to restrict valve lift and combustion chamber shape. Combustion chamber shape is pretty critical when trying to extract ultimate emission or fuel consumption performance

    All the best

Fiat 1100 engine is definitely non interference and IIRC the 1.6 16v in the Mazda MX5.

    In an alternate reality:

BR North East Regional Manager: "Following the continual barrage of negativity towards the Pacer series of railbuses by those who think everything should be as it was in the 1930s, I have decided to recommend for closure all lines radiating East out of Darlington, make the York-Scarborough single line to save money in order to keep loco hauled trains there for the enthusiasts. I shall also be decimating much of the lines radiating out of Leeds and Tyneside too. I expect my fellow regional managers will do likewise, including much of Wales and the Cornish peninsula. "

That, Mr Market65, is the reality of it. Many routes were in the last chance saloon. At Whitby no less, when a chance encounter came with the Deputy Regional Manager BR(NE) he said as much. Were it not for the Pacers then his office were going to recommend the closure of several branch lines to the BR Board.

Running a bus depot you might expect me to agree with you that it's better to run buses than Pacers, but I don't. That they were used on long distance services was not a fault with the design. Imagine replacing a HST with a Met Cam 101 and sending it Kings Cross to York. A fault with Met Cam or a fault with BR planning?

Well said that man,I couldn't agree more and judging by their popularity in preservation there about to do it all again.

  5. There was a thread started the other week asking pretty much the same questions it's in Modelling questions hints and tips IIRC,from what was said I believe Railtec is working on a suitable pack.

will be most welcome as I've held off numbering my 05 due to lack of suitable transfers and the reason I haven't bought a green 03,yet!.
