Accurascale Class 55 Deltic - 4mm scale
adb968008 replied to Andy Y's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Btw, whilst I kept the secret of the Deltic all summer of 2018… I did seed it in the Accurascale Website thread… no one spotted it, but someone did spot mk5 coaches a year before announcement in the same thread. I have seeded another where I caught someone with a scanner in their hands but you’ll have to find it yourself. -

Not sure tbh, in old money they sold knackers as low as £60, a body alone is worth at least that now. Above @Roy Langridgespeculates the bits stripped down might be worth £300, and he might have been right, though obviously without the sound and a motor that recedes a bit. I definitely have enough bits to make it a good one out of it, though it’d not be an ex-factory one it’d be credible, I like those kind of challenges. There is no doubt prices have gone up, ebay has several sold at prices in the high £250+ bracket for dcc ready. Though there isnt too many out there being sold.

Mistakes happen. if you read the comments underneath, they seem to have put their hands up, so its either going back or theyve made him whole. I would love to have seen his face when lifting the top off though. Funny thing is its more appealing to me now, I have spare board, spare motor and can make handrails. I reckon Bachmann grills might fit. Of course depends on price.

Err that didnt live well.. posted a few minutes ago… apparently once inside, there was no motor, sound chip, board or speaker… Though he seems to have a happy ending, assume its going back. Maybe I can use one of my spare motors afterall..

I bought a bunch of motors for a few quid each on ebay… though so far ive not needed to use any of them, in a Hattons 66.. (they fit Heljan too), all just needed a little tlc. I did ponder this one with sound… remember it could be a non-runner due to the sound chip too.. which is a bit more expensive to replace, but at £160 thats probably a risk worth to take given the dc ready value it would have as a runner anyway.

You forgot to mention Fran bought a round too ! That bought my loyalty that did, I hung onto it as a secret until Warley.. I do recall Fran trying to cover up that Deltic image by showing an image of the CIE A class in black…. 😀 -
so which part of my original post is wrong or in the wrong order ? And therefore which part of Rail Gazette and official court records cannot be trusted ? You state the 373’s were knackered… I never mentioned 373s… only that publically Eurostar had not originally declared replacing them as the intention behind the 374’s. tbh I dont think it matters anyway, and its nothing to do with the original posters ask.. i am interested to know who was responsible for maintaining the 373’s ? Alsthom or Eurostar ? As surely routine maintenance would establish condition ?
-
How about Eurostars own Rfp which is a matter of public record due to the legal case brought by Alsthom.. published December 2009… Whilst obviously the case brought reads of woe towards Alsthom, it does contain relevent dates, content and timelines.. Exact quote (as sourced in various legal libraries)…. https://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/markup.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2010/2747.html I doubt any respectable journal would publish information that is not of accurate legal record.. Even if you dont believe the RG. Of course companies change their mind and 6 years later they did.. but fortune tellers and crystal balls are not usually admitable as evidence in court ahead of occuring…just as much as re-writing history wont change public record after… i’m sure Alsthom would love to be able to use hindsight if they could at this point.

Ah but your changing history now… https://www.railwaygazette.com/passenger/eurostar-picks-velaro-to-expand-fleet/35350.article Nothing there about knackered 373’s, replacement, or 373 going to places 374 cannot, indeed its quite the opposite,.. And that article was already after DB announced its bid too… 1st Oct 2010, the Eurostar initial RFP stages was back in January 2009… and for DBs bid… they make pretty clear Velaro D for Eurostar is the same as Velaro D for ICE, the difference being 2x 8 car joined vs a single 16 formation.. when they launched their publicity just a few days later… https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-deutsche-bahn-siemens/deutsche-bahns-cross-channel-train-bid-gets-backing-idUKTRE69I56B20101019

I doubt axle loads are any different, unless the seats DB were using in its class 407’s were made of much tougher stuff than they put in the class 374’s. They are at the end of the day a basically identical shell off the same production line, tailoured to suit its customer. I have my own conclusions on this “deal”, but best stick to known events… All we can derive is… 1. Eurostar issues tender for Germanic services. 2. DB suddenly announces a competing London plan using Siemens Velaro 3. Eurostar suddenly / unexpectedly buys Siemens not Alsthom… making little sense of an under utilized Alsthom fleet, and meaning 2 traction modes to support, one of which is not UK gauge compatible, removing diversion options, and requires changes/sign off to existing tunnel procedures. 4. Siemens delivers rapidly, lots of Alsthom fuss over the deal, but Franco owned Eurostar gets its Velaro 374’s into relatively trouble free service. 5. DB has lots of issues getting their Velaro channel tunnel spec approved, which drags until the last Velaro Channel Tunnel spec 374 is delivered to Eurostar… though Service in Belgium / Holland is trouble free, for both DB and Eurostar. 6. Deal done and delivered… 7. Eurostar suddenly drops Germany and DB drops London 8. Eurostar now runs Siemens kit in France 9. DB gets a free Velaro from Siemens because of all its “issues”. 10. Status quo of non-compete remains on German - UK services.

Accurascale Class 55 Deltic - 4mm scale

I think they already said no, first come first serve. on balance thats the best way to do it. I would just ask consider time of day, some us have day jobs away from the forum / email and thus had no chance. -
interesting statement considering… And ebays terms… https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-policies/presale-policy?id=4252&st=3&pos=3&query=Presale policy&intent=Presale&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1252

I think visually body sides are pretty similar. The velaro D class 407 is 8 car vs Eurostars 374 at 16. internally the seating layouts are different, and the DB version is 4 voltage (same pantographs) The Velaro D is afterall a Channel tunnel compliant design, to which the 374 was based, but for some reason the French had enumerate issues around approving the DB version…yet Eurostar managed to overcome without issue.

If using the existing chassis..Easiest way to upgrade this is via the tender.. dismantle the split chassis, feed a 2 wire (of 4 wire) with a loop between the block and plastic separater, on each side. Thread that back under the cab and to the tender. In the tender put the DCC harness, and wire back to the loco motor using the other 2 wires. if using sound there is space in the tender to add in a speaker.
