  4. Its not me you need to convince, its 69 million people reading newspapers who will happilly attach hysteria to a cause.. first to sell the story, second to sell a story about the panic caused, and third to sell a story about the costs of dealing with the panic caused by the story. and this one definitely has a headline grabbing cause looking for hysteria…. Add to that its political, which attracts journalists like moths to a flame, especially if taxpayer waste can be attributed. already two of us made Hindenburg comparisons.. it wont take long for one or two “events” for journalists to run to the story…. Imo its definitely got legs… fear sells… remember Londons exploding bendy buses ?
  5. Theres only 5 left now.. one is the “as built” D9004, the rest are the dead zone of the hobby.. c1967-c1973 post end of steam and before TOPS when most enthusiasts were licking their end of steam wounds.
  6. Would gas lit coaches emit smoke when stationary ? i use old fashioned miners lamps in the garden using a similar oil, and if I dont get the mix of wick / flame right they chuck out proper black stuff.. I could imagine similar on victorian stock in platforms.
  7. 3 are moving on, to a friend, but it still leaves me with 9! ive got to dump my old Bachhy ones yet too.
  8. Rails just charged for 2 of mine. My 9 from AS are requested to be combined.. Leaves one outlier. Meanwhile the veg is growing nicely to feed the family later this summer and roadsworks finished at the bottom of the street so its strong enough for delivery. Silence falls awaiting in expectation, We just need a realtimetrains equivalent to track them.
  9. Just want to call out this one… How nice is that… also noted the pickups to the roof, as well as stay alive and reed switch control. its defintely got the toys.
  10. Not necessarily this length, BR had 64’ suburbans too, but oh yes…. Lots of potential… some of which we have, some we dont. Things like GLV, MLV, EPB etc, classes 20x, 50x, 30x series units all used the BR mk1 Suburban template…just not the short length. These ones announced knock the old Bachmann Suburban out, to which theres oodles made 2 decades+ ago.
  11. They said that 85 years ago, then the Hindenburg burned in New Jersey. Germany seems to have an on going fascination with Hydrogen… V2 rocket comes to mind as well. it explodes on buses very well too .. In the Netherlands.. https://energynews.biz/hydrogen-bus-catches-fire-in-the-netherlands/ (This one was just delivered) in Sweden.. https://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2019/03/13/bus-explosion-on-camera-roth-newsource-orig.cnn In Italy.. Hydrogen has always been a volatile explosive fuel.
  12. Naming policy depends on where deployed.. 55101 Dreadnought 55102 Superb 55103 Temeraire … ?
  13. Yes will be there, I did Route 93 last October on Dorking -Putney that was a great day out too.
  14. Slight tangent, but as I see hounslow discussed, if your into London Buses too, Route 81 will be taken over by London Bus Museum on Sunday June 12th running vintage buses on the route predominantly Hounslow to Windsor, includes Heathrow Airport.. intensive service approx every 10 mins.. timetable https://www.londonbusmuseum.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Timetable-81-v3.pdf list of participating buses https://www.londonbusmuseum.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/81-bus-list-v3.pdf https://www.londonbusmuseum.com/route-81-running-day/ oh did I sat how much? - Free service, all day.
  15. From a different angle.. though I think it looks better in black and white..
  16. I hope that seamline between the cab front and bodyside drivers side window from the nose to the roof is just a poor EP and not representative of the tooling.
  17. Ive seen reversible line running, and a TL heading from Sutton, wrong road upto the signal as a Tolworth Stone was heading south from p9 before now. Ive not seen anything reverse south of P9 though, as said above, all ive seen goes into p9 and reverse. Even the plethora of engineers workings go upto p9, usually up from Eastleigh, or Woking with a track machine. Anyways, went to my archives here, Jan 11th 2003 at Vauxhall, and NSE lives on.. 455 707 (5707)
  18. View Advert Oxford Rail Port of London Janus Only ever looked at this, checked it over all fine. 19. I think it was because it was exactly that. They wanted something that broke from the legacy network and free of interference… politicial, local population etc etc.. it is built to full UK spec including trackside fencing, security, structures, and definitely ready for the 2010 World Cup. The stations are all very modern spec too, especially Sandton, which rivals XR at Farringdon, but the above ground stations are impressive too. All PAYG card (Like Oyster ). Trains themselves are 3 carriage. ive travelled Gautrain extensively across the network to many stations and its given me a few interesting stories outside its perimeter, but inside its an impressive dedicated line, thats fast, modern, efficient from entry to exit and is considered with very high regard, demand to expand is high. It is often used as a stick to beat Prasa (SA Railways) for its corrupt ways*… “chalk and cheese” is a phrase often used. * Google “Afro 4000” if you want an entertaining half hour on corruption, mismanagement and what happens when you put a guy with a fake degree and references in a job to select and buy locomotives from Europe, which arrive out of gauge for the track.., not least with spanish language control systems onboard and manuals.. as no one thought to request english. https://www.opensecrets.org.za/wp-content/uploads/Railway-Safety-Regulator-report-on-Afro4000-locomotives-2015.pdf They suddenly discover all the moneys gone in a “front” scam for the best part of 50 locos, with 13 delivered, and 7 of the locos still sit in the factory in spain nearly a decade later. The 12 were later sold at auction (c£60k each) and ended up in Tanzania, leaving Prasa without its management or its cash or its locos… https://www.railfactor.com/news/riding-high-prasas-useless-engines-find-new-purpose-up-north oh the other 1… they wrecked it in a high speed passenger train crash.. whilst its supposed to be “out of service” for being “out of gauge”. https://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/northern-cape/train-derailment-prelim-report-released-1907346 The story just keeps going.. they left SA, some with under 50 hours usage, highest was 1000 hours, after 7 years.. costing Prasa 2.6bn Rand (about £200mn at the time) for the 20 locos built, but only 13 recieved (+ the various legals over seven years). https://www.theheritageportal.co.za/article/spanish-train-and-other-stories-some-thoughts-afro-4000-saga The last line sums it up.. the deal wasnt just for 20 diesels, but some 50 bi-model diesel electrics ( i think 1 was built) out of those too… had the “engineer” asked the right questions, and his CEO’s questionable tendering with someone who may or may not be close to him, he could have got the AFRO 4000 built to UK spec instead of EURO spec.. which would have given him 20 class 68 and 50 class 88s on Cape gauge bogies at c£10mn a piece, way over market price, and even beyond economics of most UK operators, but without all the drama ever being uncovered or the high upfront payments ever being questioned… But it would still leave PRASA with good locos with dubiously maintained stock running on track which is often stripped and stolen by locals as the railway has no money for security fencing.. reasonable summary here, “The Daily Maverick” website has been an entertaining source for this story over several years too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Class_Afro_4000 Stadler has maintained silence throughout all this… but some of the locos are here… https://goo.gl/maps/KKNLobs727dbMTro7
  20. I dont think i saw the Austerity 0-6-0ST also known as ( “J94”) on that list ? Hudswell Clarke had some “05” shunters in trinidad, though they werent ex-BR. BR sent some class 126 DMUs to Liberia. Two class 141s went to Holland, but its unclear what happened to them, they were in Rotterdam port for sometime. Class 230 has been exported to the US. Electrostar was built for Gautrain in Johannesburg, rumours consistently circulate that class 379 may follow them, though Covid canceled that, knowing South Africa politics that can always change. https://www.engineeringnews.co.za/article/gautrain-management-agency-cancels-rolling-stock-tenders-2021-02-03 I am surprised the UK didnt try to progress sales of 25kv in Africa. A lot of our stock would be ideal in parts of the continent which could not afford “new” off the shelf stock, and which has decades of life left. its demand gen for 25kv engineering, which could be achieved far cheaper, faster, greener etc on the Africa continent than here. Instead we binned it. in the old days the govt, with its trade & commerce links would promote this activity and bring companies together, I guess today diplomatic presence focus is on issuing visas and replacing lost passports. Gautrain is a very rare international British railways success these days, yet weve not tried to capitalise it at all in the region.
  21. And i’d have teleporting staff, that way they can get in my blue 86 without needing door handles afterall.
  22. Was your comment aimed at 1 or 2 ? Which is considerably larger in size, and lower level management than the CEO & Chairman ? i’m confused ? From my view, the industry seems a very small world, and one job started hiring rapidly at better rates before the other job finished, and consequently a lot of people jumped ship from one project to another, leaving the first project unfinished, unbudgetted and unstaffed… and who likes to join a project under those circumstances, especially when the other down the road has money, need staff and is just starting ?
  23. 43022 is at GWR in service. 43052 several sites suggest its at DATS Leicester since 2020. photo here (Flickr url) https://www.125group.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/fleetlist12012022.pdf I wonder the choice of numbers too, given it is whatiffery maybe one car as 1952 and one as 2022 ?
  24. Looking at the sequence… March 8th 2020.. 1050 am 1103.. 1108.. (Unit is crossing to DF) note the track workers 1109 gone by 1118 1120 next one shows up (nb the 33 just heading around the corner, reads “Waterloo”, “Via Woking”), this is 2x455+456. 1123 (the picture in question) 1125 behind the rest.. after that I went home, hung the camera up and locked down until June. I should give credit where its due here, all the photos above, are taken by my (then) 9 year old daughter… I was on the video camera.
