In the late 60s and early 70s when I worked on a Saturday in Platform Two Model Railway Shop in Wimbledon Broadway all second hand item were always tested in front of the customer on the oval test track. For new items we always asked the customer if they would like to see their purchase working and most said yes. A few said they did not want the box opened as they did not take their purchases out of the box and simply put them in a display cabinet. It was for that reason we never opened a box until asked to by the customer. For mail order items boxes were not opened but second hand items were tested.

A very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all Little Muddlers. Thank you for the wonderful entertainment you provide @KNP

I am on a cruise which stopped in Lisbon on Tuesday. While having a short look around the area near to the ship I saw some of the trams that serve Lisbon. More photos to follow later.

Jim’s “out and about with GBRf” thread

In 1963 everything was done quicker than now but most of the delays are down to safety regulations. -
Guess which biscuit bar I have just eaten? Why was the Penguin's head so cold? Because he was wearing an ice cap. Hat, coat and heading for Virtual Railfan at Fort Madison.

That was too high a standard for a Christmas cracker joke.

That train has got a lot further than most do in six hours while at Little Muddle. Positively express speed into the goods shed. I hope the back wall has survived.

Further to my earlier post, the kitten was very quickly named Mischief as he was always getting up to mischief but Abi loved him for all the fun they had together.

In some parts of the world 8 is a magic number! -
About 33 years ago my ex and I adopted a very friendly Border Collie called Abigail. About a month later Abi found a kitten stuck in a wire fence during her late night walk and would not move until I had rescued the kitten. When we got home the kitten proceeded to eat Abi's evening meal with Abi watching and looking at us in a way that told us she was OK with this provided she got fed eventually! Within two days they were inseparable although I think Abi sometimes was not certain she had done the right thing with the kitten hanging onto Abi's tail.

Never blame others for the road you are on. It is your own Asphalt.

Every morning I announce to my family that I am going jogging but never do. It is a running joke.

I am wearing all black today to mourn the loss of my motivation.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Just received my two BR Brown tramcars and they really are superb. I had no problems getting them out of their boxes which I had been worried about having read other people's experiences. I now have a four coach set of the Hattons GNR Genesis stock and two J70 tram locos. The original plan was to run two trains with two Genesis coaches and a tramcar in each set but I have now decided to run both tramcars and the 4 wheel GNR Brake coach in one set and the other three Genesis coaches as the second set. The photos below are of the tramcar set in the siding that they will not visit in normal service when the layout is closer to being finished.

How do penguins get around? On a B-icicle.

Mass cull of ticket offices
Chris116 replied to newbryford's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
The reason tills are put at the back of stores is because it means sell customers have to walk through the whole store and therefore according to the sales experts are more likely to make impulse purchases. Trouble is it makes shop lifting easier without security near the doors. If the tills are near the doors then the staff on the tills do the security job so the question has to be asked if security costs more than the extra impulse sales. -
Mass cull of ticket offices
Chris116 replied to newbryford's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
I always thought that was a bad joke but at both Earl's Court and Parsons Green that happened to me while working in the ticket office. Both customers couldn't understand why I didn't know what ticket they needed. -
Two sports jokes to keep the quality as low as possible! Why can't penguins play football? Because there's snow ball. Why are penguins good racing car drivers? Because they are always in pole position.
