  1. Just had a look at the Paul Bartlett photos of wagons, mess vans as mentioned above ,what a lovely selection, just the job……dave brighty.
  2. Hi miss prism…..seems like your thoughts were the same as mine, no wording on the side seems the order of the day……many thanks, dave….
  3. Hi there……I am at present scratchbuilding a macaw A wagon…….all seems to be going well at the moment but I am a bit stumped as to the lettering on the wagon……I have looked at what photos are available, not many that’s for sure, the question I am asking is…..would the wording MACAW. A. have been put on the side of the wagon towards the centre of it, the pictures I have seen suggest not but the majority of macaw wagons do have the wording on the side……if anyone has a photo of the wagon with the said lettering on the side I would be very grateful…….regards…dave brighty…..
  4. Cathys clown……..what an absolute classic, never tire of hearing it……..dave Brighty…..
  5. Just had a phone call from our son who lives in Southern Ireland, county cork……he has just seen and heard 4 peregrine falcons flying over his house…..he had previously seen two together but looks like it was mum,dad and two young uns today flying around………18 months ago he had not seen any raptors in his area at all, the peregrines now add together with a couple of buzzards he has seen about three months ago……very nice indeed…..I did say it would be nice to see a white tailed eagle at some stage, now that would be nice………..dave brighty….
  6. Just a line to thank you all for help with these bogies…..it is surprising what knowledge there is out there no matter what the subject seems to be someone usually has the answer…….regards…..dave brighty…
  7. Well I have measured the said bogies and the first ones are 34 mm so could well be BR mk 1 the second Goddard bogies are 32 mm so could be back to square 1……I understood that Larry Goddard did mainly Gwr and LMS bogies so perhaps they are LMS bogies…. as I am a Gwr man neither seem to be much use to me ..dave brighty……..
  8. I have just come across these two sets of coach bogies lurking in the bottom of a cupboard……I have no idea what region they are from, I model Gwr but cannot find an exact match I thought the first set MIGHT be collett 7foot but I stand to be corrected, any help would be gladly accepted…….regards…..dave brighty….
  9. Sorry I cannot take the credit for scribbing the plasticard Will…….it is planked plasticard bought from my local model shop ,Frome model centre…..the width between the Plank’s is 2mm, I believe they do a narrower one for n gauge, and a wider one for O gauge…….dave…..
  10. Well here is the finished wagon complete with transfers supplied by black square decals……when I came to put the wagon number on the side with HMRS they were to big so a quick message to black square decals and they arrived within two days…..all in all I am well pleased and it adds something a bit different to my layout…….dave brighty
  11. Well you learn something every day, it works, thank you very much…….dave brighty
  12. I seem to have a problem on this forum when I try to drag a photo onto the topic from my I pad….. it comes out upside down, I even turn the photo upside down and the it still comes out upside down…..I seem to remember a few years ago someone put this problem up but I cannot remember how to remedy it……any help would be gratefully received…………dave brighty
  13. Hi there…….just thought I would add a photo showing where we are with the stores wagon……construction has been with plasticard, brass, and white metal parts mainly from Ken line , all measurements are from GWR goods wagons by messrs.Atkins,Beard and Tourett and the roof is from Branchlines roof which I find very good, just a few more additions to the wagon and then it is off for painting and transfers…….regards…dave brighty….
  14. Looks very nice seeing it in gwr colours I must say, I think I am tempted with a kit if one appears from Worsleyworks. dave brighty
  15. Sat out in the garden this morning and there circling overhead I saw a red kite in full view, saw one last year only the once and this is the first one this year, not too common in Somerset but it was nice to see, what with hearing the steam loco at the the east Somerset railway in the distance quite a lovely morning.........
  16. Well thank you all gentleman for your input I think you seem to have cracked it for me, I am very grateful for all your comments, it just goes to show how you can sort anything out you are not sure about.......now for the wagon..... kind regards......dave brighty.....
  17. For my next project I would like to scratch build a stores van Diag.BB......in Gwr goods wagons by Atkins,Beard and Tourret I. Chapter 31 are some nice pictures of a stores van .....plate 661 shows an early van number 58140.....the question I would like ask you all is what is the writing on the wagon on the far right, the first line starts with GWR I cannot make out what the word is next to it, the other side of the stanchion, likewise the next line is STORES but I cannot make out the second word, the third line is WOLVERHAMPTON but I cannot see what the 4th line says.......if anyone can help or has an idea of what could be on the side of the van I would be very grateful, I do not want to start the build if I cannot make out what the wording is......your help would be gratefully appreciated......regards dave brighty...
  18. Well what a treat this morning.....started about 7.30am and lasted about an hour a lovely song thrush singing his little heart out in the garden.....just the job......started the day off well........
  19. Aaaaaaaagh..........pure nostalgia.............dave Brighty
  20. I took these two shots at Fairford display in 1999.....the first shot was a F111 who went by fairly slowly and then put his afterburners on, quite a dangerous manoeuvre according to the commentator, but very effective I must say.....the second shot was when the two Russian jets (cannot remember what they were) collided when they got a bit too close to each other, I managed to get this shot just after impact, thinking I had taken the shot of the year I rushed of to Taunton next morning to get my film developed (no digital stuff then) only to be told that another lad had been in already with a shot of both aircraft and pilots in the shot......I skulked off home thoroughly dejected but it is still probably the best picture I took......and one of the best airshows I went to, we flew from Bristol to fairford in an air Atlantic DC3, what a day.........dave brighty.....
  21. Have just found these pictures tucked away after a house move, sorry about the quality but they were taken in the late 50’s from an old Kodak camera.....I lived at windsor and cycled up to Heathrow with a group of mates and then later to Blackbush, near camberley, Surrey........ the first four photos were at Heathrow and include an Air India constellation, an American DC7 freighter of Seabord and Western, a LTU Bristol freighter and a Transair viscount...the last three photos were taken at Blackbush and are at Eagle airways maintainance area with a viscount, note the Reg. Number, a DH heron and a favourite of mine the Vickers Viking...... for those who can remember at Blackbush the main A30 road cut through the airport where the main airport was on one side of the road and the various airline maintainance hangers were on the other side of the road and the traffic was stopped while aircraft went from one side to the other, just see that happening nowadays me thinks not........dave brighty.....
  22. Love the photo of the vanguard......I have a very soft spot for them.....as a snotty brat aged about 14 a group of us got a visit round vickers factory at Weybridge back in the year dot, where we saw the BEA ones being built, I think I remember seeing some for trans Canada airways who I believe had 20 on order, those were the days when you could walk round the factory and ask questions and pick up bits and pieces... ......dave brighty.......
  23. Hi there 37114......thank you for your comments.....I really enjoyed making the wagon even though there seems to be no conclusive proof that there was one in gwr colours, but equally there does not seem to be any proof that there was not one in gwr colours, as I said earlier it is a representation of the wagon and I was very pleased with the outcome.......dave brighty.....
  24. Hi.....I have used black square decals.co.uk in the past and have been very pleased with the results....the proprietor Ian has done a number of custom transfers for me and is very quick and reasonably priced, he can enlarge or make smaller almost anything.....definitively worth a contact.......regards.....dave Brighty
