  1. Hi there......I have decided to paint this wagon in gwr colours but I do appreciate that there is no conclusive proof that there was one, I have looked through numerous books and it seems that it is possible there were a few converted large covered vans so I am happy to say it is a representation.......the wagon was based on a ken line chassis kit with the rest made from plasticard, brass strip from eileens emporium and the transfers were from black square decals who I find extremely good both in cost and quickness in supplying my order......next job is another Pooly van the small 10;foot planked van as per Mr Russell, GWR wagon book.....
  2. Hi there............I am just at the stage with this wagon for painting and as can be seen from some of the quotes it could be that H .Pooly did not convert the bloater fish vans from gwr just iron minks .....the question I was asking is is there a definitive reference book or article that confirms when these “bloater” vans were converted to vans for H Pooly into BR stock or I am hoping that perhaps one van may have been converted in gwr days so that I can paint my wagon in gwr colours.......if not I will paint it in BR colours as per Paul Bartlett photos.........your assistance would be appreciated.....
  3. Thank you for your information, much appreciated, looks like it will be a BR Pooly van now instead of GWR one....I have found the one Will saw the CC2 in Russell wagon book but as you say no sign of a “bloater” conversion for gwr......thank you again........dave Brighty......
  4. Hi miss prism......here is the van...it looks to me that this could be the BR colour all be it very faded and scruffy, when converted would Pooly have left it brown as per the original colour of the “bloater” or had they their own colour scheme, I have since found a iron mink converted to one of their vans and it is gwr grey with the round all still present, your thoughts would be appreciated.....dave.....
  5. Hi there.....I am in the process of scratchbuilding a Pooley gwr ex “bloater” fish van ......the van is from the excellent Paul Bartlett photos which are very good for detail......the question I would like to know is what colour would these vans be painted in GWR days....would they stay the same as the “bloater” ...brown, or would they have been painted gwr grey or did Pooly have their own colour.......I have looked on the internet And found some BR vans in different colours and read the excellent article “little didcot” by Castle but Do not seem to find what colour they would have been painted in GWR days.......any help would be gratefully received.... regards.......dave Brighty......
  6. Hi.....I have used www.blacksquaredecals.co.uk in the past......Ian is very good at creating any transfers you may require....just contact him with a picture and size and colour and he is very quick to sort you out.....I have been very pleased with his results......dave Brighty.....
  7. Hi......I have built several of the gwr Rotank wagons all based on the Hornby Dapol, Lima 6=wheel milk tanker which I have Used as the wagon.......the actual milk road trailer I have used the coopercraft trailer which occasionally comes up,on e bay I must say that they do not come up very often nowadays........there are a number of pictures of the wagon and trailer in Jim Russell’s great western wagon appendix book which gave me the original idea, unfortunately I have not found any plans for this wagon.....I have attached a photo of the latest offering.......dave Brighty
  8. I have just read this post and so sorry to hear of Fred’s passing......he was a lovely man and helped me immensely in my early modelling years.......I met Fred when he moved to Camberley and then when he opened his shop in camberley I helped him out for just one week before we moved down to Somerset.......I kept in touch and still have a nice collection of his kits both built and waiting to be built from the Mallard range.....such a shame about his passing a true gentleman...........dave........
  9. We’ll know it’s really serious when shops run out of SPAM..............wot no spam fritters........
  10. A very positive response to a difficult situation......well done Derek.....
  11. I can certainly remember seeing a parcels railcar coming into Slough from Paddington around the 60’s whilst train spotting on Slough station.....ah happy days me thinks........dave Brighty......
  12. Hi Neil......have just found this article after e mails to you on your e bay item.......I will follow on here and if it is not too late I would be up for a kit as well.......regards dave brighty......
  13. I am indeed indebted miss prism, thank you very much.........Dave brighty.....
  14. Hi there.......I have just started on 2 of the above kits, one kit is complete and the other is missing the four axle boxes, bought off e bay allegedly all complete.......could some kind star please tell me what type of axle box they are and more importantly where I might be able to buy four.......I have looked at mjt on dart castings but am not quite sure if they have them.......regards....Dave brighty.... ps definitely a case of checking kits when they arrive me thinks.....
  15. If dart castings are visiting any exhibitions or shows, contact them and he will bring kits he has left from the range, I have purchased numerous gwr wagon kits this way........I do not know how the supply of locos and tenders is......I have found the owner very friendly and agreeable in this respect.....Dave brighty.....
  16. Hi there......does anyone out there know of a supplier who does “shunt with care” transfers in white please....dave brighty
  17. Well that’s it.....I do not seem to have found any further information about this particular coach other than what is the 1 picture in Russell’s book......I have plodded on and it is now finished as will be seen by the attached pictures, three coats of diluted precision paints and suitable transfers applied and to be honest I am quite pleased with the result, without any plans or further info I feel it is a fair representation of the said coach, especially as I had all the parts to complete it already in the spares box so if there are a few problems, which there probably are I feel it has not cost an arm and a leg......it can now join the two Haye Development breakdown coaches which are also the Didcot ones........
  18. Hi Gareth......thank you for the info......do you have any information of tool van what looks like number 11, the picture I have at the start of this article, seems a bit of a mystery to me, I cannot find any info at all........dave....
  19. Hi there 57XX......many thanks for this info, I could not quite see what was there in the picture I found, the angle is not very good, I did think to myself I wonder why those step boards have been cut there, so now I know, thank you.....Dave Brighty.....
  20. Well, having sprayed Halfords primer on the coach it is surprising how many gaps and filling need to be done, checking my humbrol model filler it had expired so a trip to my local model shop (Frome models ) reveal they had no humbrol filler but the lad showed me the games workshop liquid green stuff, not being too happy with something different I went home and on using it I must say I most impressed, never seen it before but certainly I can recommend........anyway all primed now next job, top coat of paint and transfers......
  21. Well I have looked high and low for any more pictures of this tool van but to date I have found none....so this is the first time I have decided to put a project on the web but I thought I would give it a go.......I had the sides, roof and ends of a ratio brake third already so the first job was to remove the guard ducket from the side and upon closer inspection of the picture it seems to me that other panels had been plated over with sheet metal, so they were added with nice thin plasticard and on the roof the the board describing the coach was made from scrap brass and glued on......new buffers courtesy of mjt were added and it now looks rather strange so I have added pictures and we will see how it goes.......as I have no pictures of the other side I am assuming it has been plated similar to the side showing......next job will be to prime with Halfords grey primer and fill any gaps...........Dave Brighty......
  22. Hi....yes I saw it, it was really something out of this world.....about a month ago at Shepton and district MRC we had an exhibitor who had a small circular Emmett layout, it was fantastic, to see it is to believe it, the hours that must have gone into it, lovely........Dave.....
  23. Hi.....I have attached a photo from Russell’s book perhaps it may help, I should have done it originally, forgot different prints of Russell’s book may give different pages.......I have looked but cannot any other pictures of this tool van.......Dave Brighty....
  24. Hi there.....I am at present having a go at converting the ratio 4 wheeler brake van to a didcot tool van.........in Mr Russell’s part 1 gwr coach book page 63 there is a picture of said van......the question I would like to know is is the van number 11 which can be made out between the G and the W or am I looking at some other adornment on the van.......it looks to me like a number 11 but I was just wondering if anyone else has a picture of this van or can confirm it had the number 11........here’s hoping !!!!. Dave Brighty.....
  25. Definitely a bit of a beast this one, I had a couple of bits left over but it looks okay and is fine for me.....if you are doing the gwr version you will have to do the cab yourself, Brassmasters promised one yonks ago but it never materialised, when you come to paint it I found it best to be spray finished either with aerosol or paint sprayer, almost impossible to do it with a brush, I am very pleased with mine but I would wince if asked to do another one......all the very best.......Dave.....
