  1. Ah ,everyone’s best car joke. Rechristened the Andante in its time IIRC. TR…..the magic letters conjuring up the gleaming sports roadster. I was once the proud owner of a Triumph 6 -cyl Vitesse. This came to a sad end when its front n/s wheel literally disintegrated leaving just the wheel nuts and a piece of jagged metal in place. The glorious era of metal fatigue and body rot. And we talk of Hornby’s lax approach to QC ? Nothing new there….as introduced by Longbridge,Dagenham,Cowley etc.
  2. To be a McEnroe, they do have some seriously good stuff in development …well they did have at MK anyway.I’m assuming Rapido to be the bearer of the urn containing my ashes to be incarcerated with, an OO rtr of a County.Hornby can provide my eternity with, appropriately enough,as befits my worth 🤪 a Saint..preferably Cefntilla Court.
  3. Though it may well have been prototypically correct at the time,it just doesn’t look right on a model railway. To compare,I am currently running the new BR (S) set coupled to the rear of its crimson & cream counterpart. The effect is ghastly to my eyes. I must mention that before running it’s advisable to check both wheel sets and underbody detailing components. One unseated length of pipe ensured one coach could move only in one direction .Fixing it challenged both eyesight & dexterity. That said,I think these coaches are excellent models.
  4. I’d agree that the BR( S ) green as applied with the new release does seem dark but a lot depends upon the lighting condition you use. I’ve also just received the first “malachite “ example and to my observations when next to a current Hornby Bulleid short malachite coach, the two together do not cause a significant clash of tone.
  5. Odd to think that Ouseburn has been developed recently as a thriving community of small businesses and quirky places to eat.
  6. But not difficult if you take a look online at the Shildon stock. This one was always going to be in the catalogue. But quite a number of us turn aside from the fact that Locomotion sponsor only those that belong in their collection.
  7. And an NER first in OO for Locomotion NRM.I believe. The price is what it is and not out of synch with current trends.
  8. Too far south in any case.Keep thinking regional,Bonny lad. Boat arriving with catch shortly.😄
  9. That would be an entirely reasonable assumption.
  10. Interesting. Re: locos. On 02/08/1958 confirm 73117 & 30453 on up morning Exeter-Waterloo workings .The rest being MN & WC/BB in original build.
  11. Yes.Not cheap. But changing the flat glazing on the old version might be problematic.Besides which, these are rather good. Now where’s that Tavern Car ?
  12. Recollections of this superannuated old #### suggest that the so -called route familiarisation 72A turns ( mainly Bulleid Light Pacifics ) over the South Devon banks was with local Exeter/ NA WR turns. Thus Colletts/Hawksworths etc. However if t’other way round had problems…..and it frequently did, given Dartmoor weather etc….then the obvious diversion would naturally be via Brent. SR passenger traffic into North Road/Friary was usually the Plymouth portion ……3/4 Bulleid, occasionally Maunsell …off Waterloo-West of England trains, again with WC/BB.in charge.IIRC the longest train was the Brighton-Plymouth,run mainly to serve RN personnel at Devonport. However,a diversion as such would need reversals at St.David’s. No reason not to indulge in a Bulleid set.
  13. Mine arrived this morning. And was duly given a 3 hour running in before commencing “duties”. I’m pleased that there are no difficulties with respect to running quality. It’s a vast improvement on the first batch…which of course is as it should be after 20 or so years since it first appeared. At the moment it is hitched to my 5 coach Set847 with which it is completely at ease through all settings (dc) .The set is of course a mismatch as 73118 didn’t carry a name until post c&c.The name incidentally is nicely rendered. But there is no etched plate included.
  14. Fleischmann Profi couplings maybe ?
  15. Pickups present for lighting but instruction sheet offers no guidance for internal fitting. And I possess neither the eyesight nor dexterity to attempt it,sorry.
  16. TBH,looking at both versions,I can’t tell
  17. Thing that occurs to me with 73118 is that it ran with a name only later on in its career. Thus if you want to replicate its condition c1956-1960,that would have to go from the running plate.
  18. Looking now at my Bachmann 9F 92189,it’s identical…apart from the lining of course.
  19. 1951….Festival of Britain year. Train spotting at Waterloo in between visits to the South Bank and Battersea Fun Fair….and Alfred The Great on the Belle. The Royal Wessex was introduced that year too but with c&c Mk 1’s.Thanks for dating it for me.
  20. Time ? ? You think you’ve got problems 😳 ? Last of the big spenders talking….
