On page 60 of 'Memories of the Withered Arm' by Peter Barnfield there is picture of a Mica (meat van) being attached to the 3:13 at Wadebridge. The author was travelling on this train and he describes the van as "reeking of fish".

Madly I've just thought of Rapido or Accurascale developing a 'smell unit' for our goods trains...

You could, of course, just fit a prawn in your Parkside Mica B and wait a couple of days.

Have had a chance to look at my 7802 … bowled over! Thanks Accurascale…

Been looking at fitting the details starting with the front coupling. A key wow for me with photos of the model was getting the coupling on to the shackle under the buffer. Well …. Destroyed one coupling trying so haven’t persisted with the other one.

Any advice anywhere please? The coupling as supplied would be a very tight stretch as the bottom shackle is modelled wound up near the counterbalance weight …. If it were at the lower extremity of its travel there might be a better chance …

The only way I have got it to work on other models is with a coupling with extended shackles as used on the SR and with the pivot axes of the shackles at 90 degrees so might be doing a swap there…

Heres one I did earlier on a modified Bachmann Modified Hall ….

I’ve had a frustrating hour or two trying to get the supplied screw link coupling IMG_3369.jpeg.510dd21022bf92cf26bfb2fc7c7a4117.jpegto fit on the stowing hook. Having had to repair the coupling a couple of times I have stowed it in this configuration.

I'm dim and don't want to sound rude, but why have you got a sound fitted loco at quite an expense, but on a DC Layout?

Be gentle as my remaining Brain Cell is fading rapidly.

Well, at my time of life I figured I wouldn’t be buying any more locomotives of this quality given the long gestation time - and having read that they were DC compatible (but with basic sound ) I thought this might be a good investment in case I was tempted by DCC in the future!  I used to use the Q Kits sound controllers in the 1990s but was never happy with the sound quality.

And that’s the fun of it. Trick is to be gentle on the controller & let things happen. Obviously not for the purist & I don’t make any claims for the serious operator.I get fun .Which is fine for me that’s all

It works for me too - tapping at buttons is a distraction from watching this loco move majestically - but I had to get my track really clean so there was no stuttering.

  5. Thank you Accurascale for a superb model that oozes quality and captures  the presence of the real thing except for the smell !! I collected mine from a DHL service point when all the grandchildren had gone home. If SWMBO finds the box she will think I’ve been buying expensive O gauge stuff but would be surprised at the very reasonable price ! Now I have to get some DCC kit to make it work to get the best out of the sound chip - but it’s DC for now!

  6. Yes , that view gives an impression of movement - your Grange is the loco to look out for when spotting at Encombe - splendid!

  7. My Anthony Manor was due to ba delivered on Thursday but I have grandchildren staying and couldn’t be sure we would be at home. I had the packaged diverted to a local DHL service point and will pick it up when they have all gone.

I also decided that ‘can I see’ then ‘can I hold it’ would be difficult- so I will pick it up when they have gone on Monday and I can enjoy the opening experience!

After so many positive reviews tge excitement is building!
