I suspect Hattons have stopped reading this months ago, but on the point of the 14xx rear axle I assumed it did not move radially because it has external bearings fixed to the frames.

Do we know Miss Jasper? Perhaps she too has been overcome by the appearance of an APT last week hence Dr Creasy's visit. That Austin 7 looks suitably ill kempt for a busy GP! It seems Mr Warburton has finally caught a train or perhaps he is bending over to tie his shoelaces!

I take your point about gearing and wheelsize favouring the Pug, but there is not much weight in the Pug yet there is minimal wheelslip ! In theory the smaller diameter wheels have a smaller contact area with the rail. Surely the 0-4-2 configuration could be constructed as a rigid chassis and the rear axle geared up to compensate for the smaller diameter wheel. Something coupling rods couldn't do!

Testing my Airfix version with its original chassis (but MGW driving wheels) I find it happily moves four coaches, but to my surprise I found my unmodified Hornby L&Y Pug happily shifts six Hawksworth coaches! Perhaps if the Hattons 14xx would perform better if the rear wheels were included in the gear chain drive as they bear a significant proportion of the body weight but contribute no traction.

I see the tension lock coupler has been replaced by a neat wire loop on the full brake in the penultimate group of photos- that must be a headache for the train marshaller !

The second photo for me demonstrates how much better the Hornby wheels are compared to Bachmann , with flaring of the spokes at the boss, and the all important dimple on the axle ends. This photo captures the Hall for me.

There is no need for a cavity wall in an industrial building is there? Good old English Bond would have survived Storm Doris - but of course ties are essential in cavity walls, even in Liverpool!

Wonderful to see a well fettled Manor- I hope someone from Bachmann sees this to realise the potential for a retooled version!

The third photo is perfect for the onset of Spring! I'm surprised the PW gang have survived so long standing so close to the traffic, 1947 has been a very long year !

I'm in 1947, the Therapy Year, ( I was in my Terrible Twos ) and Gaslight paper has just become available for amateur photographers after the War. Coolpix indeed !

You were warned! More colouring in, and the Staedtler pen, ( water soluble so you can wipe off mistakes with a moist finger ) If it the ink gets on the window edges it resembles the stains left by smokers!
