  1. You need to get an AC supply as mentioned several times above. Jaycar MP3021 will give you 16Vac but I'd suggest MP3032 which will give you 24Vac. Jaycar don't seem to offer an (ON)-OFF-(ON) switch, which is surprising. Peco passing contact switches PL-26R are also suitable. Good luck!
  2. How would that compare with the price of, say, a Korean brass King, adjusted for inflation?
  3. A short holiday let me take this:
  4. No posts for the past ten days or so as we've been away, celebrating Veronica's birthday again. Where were we? That should be an easier clue than last year! It was about the only railway action we saw, apart from a few Matangi trains and the Wairarapa Connection passing us along the the way during our travels. Although Wellington lived up to its windy reputation, the weather was mild, fine and sunny for five out of six days, which was an unexpected bonus.
  5. RIP Deadly. The best of his kind I ever saw. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/goodbye-derek-underwood-fierce-of-arm-gentle-of-heart-1429480?
  6. Before I left the UK in 2001, my commute between Polegate and East Croydon was exclusively 421s and/or 423s, so within your 25-year guesstimate. Definitely no CDL.
  7. That layout is one I remember from the first Central Hall show I went to, in 1966. I'd never seen, or imagined, such a big layout before!
  8. Spot on, Tony. As I've said before, there is a world of difference between running a layout and operating it.
  9. No, but knowing that the C77 has a fictitious number might be...
  10. Yes. If you look into this using templates or real points, you'll see that if the crossing gaps coincide there is no checking function so wheels can go either way.
  11. My memories of Jaguars are from the early 1980s. They made an excellent 0800 alarm call when we were moored in Shepherd's Marina, Gibraltar...
  12. Is that much the same as Section Clear but Station or Junction Blocked (3-5-5) on other railways?
  13. Yes. Tri-ang axles were 5/32" (or possibly 9/64" - see @jimwal's comment below) diameter. You could (can?) get bushes to fit 1/8" axles.
  14. That is why I have never watched any of Peter Jackson's Tolkien films. I don't want to spoil the vivid mental pictures I have in my head.
  15. Nice. Very Iain Rice-ish, if I may say so.
  16. Tut tut, I thought you were old enough to know better.
  17. Check whether Stuart Barnes is available.
  18. In that case, I hope you'll be able to pick up a pint pot! Good luck.
  19. Yes! Memory fade 50 years on! Thanks for the correction. At least I got the George part right - not Dirty Daniel's or Mucky Mary's. St George's School is another story altogether...
