  1. Still think this would apply! NR doesn't like clutter! Brian
  2. Now you've got us all worried about colours. Blue, sand, maroon, green and now some white - never had this trouble when all was (G) Western green with 'no silly yellow bits!" If this goes on, one day Brent will just be an up and down line with HSTs and similar sweeping through with all signs of any station, swept away. I can see it now! Brian.
  3. The Heralds website has to be one of the slowest ever!. Brian.
  4. Good to see a nice lot of dross today. Goes well with trains! Brian.
  5. While you lot were born/bred in Peverell, I was working as a lad in Pounds House in the fifties. Now how old does that make me! We lived in Mannamead with full view of the GW main line which is now obscured by housing. Brian Brian.
  6. Interesting description and pictures. Perhaps I should get up earlier and see what happens. Brian.
  7. I realise this is no consolation Phil, but now you know why I went three rail! Brian.
  8. Hands up, those who clicked on the link. I did just in case! Brian.
  9. I rather think Dinkies are on most tinplate layouts for the same nostalgic reason as the layout itself. Brian.
  10. Those Cornish clouds - lovely! Scenery too!! Trains as well!!! Brian.
  11. Definitely off topic Do people still have studies back home, a room with a phone and a desk where all sorts of work is carried on? I thought that sort of thing was upper class and went out with WW2. Been away too long I suppose but seeing it mentioned, had to ask. Incidentally, I'm not half as busy as your schedule! Brian.
  12. A very nice model! Although weaned on Swindon products, when they first appeared in Plymouth, I was the first to love them amongst those gathered in 'the lane' at North Road. They were always hurling insults about slipping, oil losing, clanking and any other negatives they could think up. Although as they became more prevalent, others warmed to them and they did improve in time and I don't ever remember the term 'spam can', they were always streamlined and not 'air smoothed', no matter what others may think. Hopefully spotters at Brent will take kindly to them also. Brian.
  13. Sounds like your wife could be my mother!! Can't believe Ivor Dewdney's lasted all this time; it was never the best IMO. Brian.
  14. Well Kevin, there's all sorts of things you can get away with in tinplate that would give our scale brethren the vapours. Just check the difference between station and train but that is the very reason I switched. Couldn't keep up with the necessity of having all things 1/43, 1/45, 1/48, or whatever. It looks OK with regular Hornby stock but I've never really discovered what scale they are anyway! Brian.
  15. Certainly compact. Shouldn't take long to whip up!! Brian.
  16. A diesel for a change, ETS/BL Class 20 Brian.
  17. I'd like to know where you keep all these layouts. Name change; personally I like Port X although Porth X works OK. Before I changed scales, I always fancied Cornish layouts for sentimental reasons and one was to be Penwithy until I found out there was a Penwithers so I changed to Trewithy. There probably is a hamlet called that somewhere! All these Cornish names really confuse Spellcheck! Brian.
  18. The question must be asked, why didn't they adopt a standard size, O gauge being the most logical at the time? The answer is probably lost in the mists of time and Meccano records! Tinplate O is not the most critical scale so a decimal point is neither here nor there. Supertoys were probably the most accurate but they made most other Dinkies look small. Brian.
