  1. They're brown and round here now.. I take three every six hours or so to control the pain from my hip fix. They work quite well! Brian.
  2. Its increasingly likely that the US will never change over. Especially with an ever growing conservative agenda! Brian.
  3. 1:50 PST and RMW is acting up - worst its ever been! Select topic and something else entirely shows up. Slow - its hard to remember when it wasn't. One really has to be a masochist to go through all this to find messages that certainly don't cheer one up, most are sad and refer only to those involved. Surely a close friend is a better confidante than someone you don't know, perhaps thousands of miles away. Luckily, be selective and there is still a lot of interesting content to be found and its the only game in town! Brian.
  4. Doesn't pay to talk Plymouth politics! The only Johnny Mercer I know is the American lyricist from an age that most know little of! Brian.
  5. I had the same trouble. The eye doc fixed it with a prism in the prescription. Brian.
  6. Intriguing film of the farmers wife going shopping; just an overcoat and shoes, snow on the ground and no boots. It really looks cold but luckily the train arrives on time. Things were tough on the Moor even at this late date and hard to believe in this day and age. Brian.
  7. This is the time in our part of the world when I usually check EMs and news: 2:00 PST. RMW is still slow and intermittent in most of its functions which means switching off and doing other computer work. There seems to be a real problem between efforts to fix it or to blame it on the ads. We are assured the ads are necessary for funding but even if we were all on the gold standard, the delays would no doubt still be there. Brian.
  8. And how are the passenger figures holding up for the new service? To get back to Okehampton! Brian.
  9. I thought we were all for "the tinplate look" here! Brian.
  10. This lonely little thread is a great intro to the later Yelverton! Great background info. Brian.
  11. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Have we forgotten the proposed reopening of mining in Cornwall to access some sort of materials suitable for Trickery stuff? I had! Not that that would need huge train loads of Ore etc. BUT the economics of Kernow might just be about to resurge....there's a tip to canny investors who want to make a ton of dosh>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> It is said that ore still lies beneath the western slopes of Bodmin Moor with granite as a default export.. This was heavily exploited in the last couple of centuries until the economics of the thing became a problem. There was even a railway, the Liskeard & Caradon, to haul it all away to the docks at Looe. It went further afield in GW days until this too suffered economically. A century or two later it might be possible to resurrect this source due to changing times and mineral needs. Brian. (Supporter of lost causes)
  12. Phil, me 'andsome. all this is an exercise in pure nostalgia! Like earlier comments it will come to naught and probably return to Okehampton in the fullness of time. Good fun though, but its time to retire and ponder the reopening of the Chacewater line to Newquay! Brian
  13. Unless things have changed drastically its not so bad; off the Down Main at Par past the station loop and go left into the yard off the Newquay Branch! Surely theres enough rusting track there with road access off StB road and the large lorries we've encountered don't seem to see a problem with poor access. There's enough lorries and enough poor roads! But you will soon have a turntable Brian.
  14. Where are all the Dads? Not one to be seen; Mums and kids on their own. Different times! Brian.
  15. Hi Winslow Boy, it might seem that some have had enough such warnings from on high. When two countries have the same idea, it can't be all bad. T. Rattigan.
  16. Sell by dates should be taken with a pinch of salt. In the US theres thoughts on doing away with it altogether to avoid waste as people tend to throw away perfectly good items too early. Indeed we have just used up milk dated Dec 23 last year! Brian
  17. I only know from FDR on. Hoover and Coolidge, Taft, etc, are names I've heard of and thats about it. The UK PMs are more well known for obvious reasons but not having lived there for a while I'd have to think on it! Motley Crue comes to mind for some reason! Brian
  18. Likewise to the US in 1963 when I got my first American paycheck. Wasn't 36K though! Brian.
  19. Ernest Borgnine in The Vikings! Brian
  20. God was good! Didn't he mention something about avarice and coveting your neighbours trains? Nothing wrong with good old fashioned greed though! Brian.
  21. Regarding the cost factor, perhaps fewer TV rentals might be enough or do you really want another Netflix type streamer. Sometimes it comes down to such choices. I'd give the savings to George and feel good about it! Brian
  22. Something no pet owner wants to learn. But having a pet is like any other responsibility, they rely on you for their well being and if you care for them enough, you respond. Its no good having a fair weather animal where everything is OK all the time; its when you are faced with situation like this which costs! If you love him enough you'll go along with it! Brian.
  23. The umpteenth rerun is on PBS every Saturday night on PBS here - just as funny and even more relevant. Brian.
