  1. Our biggest problem in the storm was that our cable provider Comcast was out for twelve hours last night. Just imagine, no TV internet or telephone. - Peace! Read a new Railway Magazine instead. Brian
  2. We have a three br house app.2400 sqft. Just the two of us, it always seems full. Stuff! A 4br would have been better, but who knew that then! The lot approaches 2-3 acres but a large portion is in the 'forest', a green belt at the back. There is a modern housing development not far away with two story houses on miniscule lots built almost to the boundary with next door similarly situated, a love thy neighbour situation, or else!
  3. radios, tvs, coffee makers, chargers................................................ Brian
  4. It looks like comments such as these are written by expats or those who have spent a lot of time in the UK. They are just personal observations which are open for confirmation and while things have changed, obviously some things have not. Hence these comments which may not have anything to do with vast majority, there are those by choice to whom it does apply. Brian
  5. Coming to the US, I can see why. Our double bathroom has at least four on each wall with real switches, no string dangling from the ceiling! We have survived for the last twenty years in this house Brian.
  6. One has only to watch enough British TV to verify this situation. Whilst principals generally have good teeth, some guests need to visit their dentist PDQ! Another British phenomenon, excess facial hair, up their nose, in their ears and bushy eyebrows! Surely their barbers must notice this - but the average Brit doesn't seem to mind or perhaps care about such things. To be kind though, things have got much better as times change. Brian.
  7. Lionel produced a generator van complete with pole and wired to a search/flood light. Double doors could be opened revealing a modelled generator inside. Brian.
  8. Once while changing trains at some obscure little station, the only place open was the station caff with some ancient looking packages on sale. Didn't wan' t to enquire too closely of their sandwiches but there was some lovely fresh bread whose aroma was enticing but nothing to fill them. So they were ate as they came, not even any butter; it didn't matter as we finished off the bread and never tasted better since! Brian
  9. Enjoyed your trip through Cornwall; done it myself a few times! I have long weaned myself from worrying about the price of petrol and now utilise the nearest convenient station. Lifes too short! Brian.
  10. Would you mind resending this to some mayor or other in the US! Brian.
  11. Today has been one of those "On a clear day you can see forever" days. A touch of frost this morning, so perfect! Brian.
  12. Autumn has finally arrived in GH. It has rained, the leaves are blowing off the trees and the trees are falling on people and houses! Things are normal for this climate right now! Brian.
  13. Old Ross must be there somewhere! Brian.
  14. Cats can sleep anywhere. Maybe she likes the springiness of the keys - a mini massage! On the other hand, I wish my screen image would stay still - it keeps moving up and down just as I type. Brian.
  15. You can't cuddle up to a keyboard! Brian.
  16. You can't cuddle up to a keyboard! Brian.
  17. Lets face it - we're just a bunch of old guys with nothing better to do than waste time on a device of choice!. Don't like intrusive ads? Then this is not the place for you; try a more specific topic where there is more interest than someone's ailments. RMW can be an enjoyable experience, so don't let the ads bother you to the point of giving up on it! Brian.
  18. After seeing a TV show about cruising, its definitely not my idea of a holiday; all those people on ship that want to do the same as the passengers of the other ships in port at the same time. Its a mad crush; all right if you like crowds but what pleasure is there otherwise. The same people doing the same thing, otherwise you can't eat and drink your way across the Med or wherever. Gamble if you must; its a time waster as well as money waster. Shows the equal of Butlins, minus the blazered young hosts but now geared to the younger, cool crowd which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Then theres always the chance of delay caused by some late returning 'guests'! At least we get a svelte blond dancing at a car show! Brian.
  19. Hi Keith, On a dimsy Autumn day there wasn't much else to do until I came across the on going series of dockside Plymouth which pops up every now and again. Always of interest and amazing facts and info keep turning up over the span of this subject. Its been a while since I trod those once familiar quays and wharfs and with all the new development, it begins to lose the attraction such places have to those of us who like to delve into the past. We must hope there is yet some undiscovered siding or remains of a wagon buried somewhere in the bushes and brambles! Brian
  20. Great pictures, although I've never been here this early! Coming from further West, it was always an event to see third rails in such profusion. So much better than overhead! Brian.
  21. I was lucky enough to see 18000 on its maiden run at North Road station. It was quite exciting for we spotters on the fence to see something as radically new actually in the South West and it drew quite an audience. We had seen the future! Brian.
  22. Needed to change so got yet another HP so now trying to make it all work. Been off line for a couple of days if anyone notices and got a lot done Not a a new one but the HP with speakers and CD player built in which is much more suitable for my cupboard computer area. Brian.
