We only bought one recently as it had photos of two of the grandchildren in their school Nativity play. There wasn't as much in it about Whitby and the surrounding villages as their used to be. A lot about Scarborough though. Covering a much wider area/ adjacent towns seems to be the way 'local' papers have gone. 

And not so much advertising. Presumably that's all internet based now and has reduced that revenue stream . . . .

Used to get a copy every week.

Interesting..... Your subsequent description reminded me of the issues the Apollo 13 crew had with resolving problems with different components in the command and lunar module.

I wonder why such fundamental items you mentioned weren't specified as standard across manufacturers to minimise future maintenance and spares? Or even bought for the entire fleet and free-issued to the manufacturer for the build.

There are several components in a crossing. Really needs a diagram, but the wing rails are there to provide support to the wheel tread as the wheel flange passes through the gap (known as the neck) in the crossing.

So on the straight route, the check rail opposite the gap is there to ensure the flange passing through the gap doesn't go the wrong way down the curved route. And vice versa.

Primer has gone on most of the cleaning platform this afternoon. I've also drawn up another building for the backscene and started researching dimensions for others I want to incorporate. 

The crinkly tin church shown in the post on 28th Jan was drawn up initially on lined paper to get a feel for it. I didn't need the lines to be on the sketch, so I purchased some Artist A3 paper and some water colour paints.

I traced the previous sketch by blu-tacking it to a window and then tacking the Artist paper over the top.

The picture below is the result of a bit of experimentation this afternoon. My plan is for the front row of buildings from my home town to be in colour and those further back to be silhouettes in dark and lighter colours.

In the second photo, a lorry with Southern Railway lettering, but a British Railways rear cover.

In the same photo, it's not clear why the brickwork of the arches protrudes in front?

In the fourth photo, or the subsequent post, the advertising boards are quite extensive. Interesting that QEII (or the QM?) appears to have slept opposite the Goods Yard.

Just a thought: The piece you put back will need to be electrically re-connected to the crossing wing rail. Or will it be able to be the equivalent of a 'dead frog' without affecting running due to the short length? Good luck with your repair.

Yes, know where you are at. I'm in the process of rebuilding my layout. Last train ran in August 2020 at its previous location. I had hoped a long break over Christmas would see trains running again before I went back to work on 2nd Jan (2024). However the list of items to enable full reconstruction has taken longer than anticipated, as detailed in my topic link below..

So I don't over-run my self imposed deadline, it is still January 1st 2024 in the railway room.🤣

Second set of steps completed along with the final section of cleaning platform. Intermediate supports to add in three places and underslung beams to add throughout, then to paint. Last night's dry run.

A very pleasant day spent at the Doncaster show on Sunday. Put faces to some names on RMWeb: @LNER4479 and @Barry O on Hills of the North and parted with some cash for @Pete Goss s book on his buildings whilst looking at his Copper Wort layout. Nice to meet you all.

I took a list of bits and bobs I needed. With one exception, sadly all the others were 'back in the shop'.

Note to self: Email / phone suppliers to check they will have at/ can bring to the show, various bits and bobs. Will be reverting to t'internet to obtain what I need from them to carry on building "stuff". Fully understand why they didn't have them, so not a complaint, just an observation on 'don't assume' 😐.

I have a black and white photograph somewhere of an eight-ish year old me sitting in one of these locos. Somewhere on the North Wales coast, if I recall what I've been told. Rhyll or Colwyn Bay probably ( ?). 

Trouble is, I remember the photo more than the event!
