  1. Hi @young37215, have you seen this site? : https://signalbox.org/photo-gallery/north-british-railway/arrochar-tarbet/
  2. Or were people and organisations content with "if it works, why break it?" . Compare to the current need for constant change/ "innovation" and not letting change bed in before the next change starts.
  3. . . . .of a clearly very rewarding coach build. Very, very nice. Superb. Etc etc
  4. Its your railway. But . . . . As a Pway Engr, that is just shouting out for a half scissors* to make two sidings leading off in opposite directions . . . . . *two.points and a diamond for the uninitiated
  5. Thanks Rob @MrWolf. Having looked in this morning, the painted track looks ok under artificial light from the operating position. That will be the normal viewing point. I'll continue along the siding with a similar mixture/ wash. Next stop will be to experiment with ballast. I like the empty sleeper beds of the prototype picture. A bit difficult to see in that zoomed in picture, but it appears to be a mixture of ash and earth with some ballast added as top dressing.
  6. Neglected Carriage Siding at Faversham for comparison:
  7. Experimenting with paint on Carriage Siding 2. Before: During: During a bit more: Trying to go for 'neglected siding'. Thoughts?
  8. Came across this over the weekend. Very interesting. You wouldn't walk like the screenshot below nowadays. No hi-vis either. Similarly, spot the non-PC calendar . . . .
  9. Did a bit of a 'Where's Wally' to find those in the first picture 🤣
  10. A Project Manager said to me once that in his previous job he had been able to develop a system in less than 12 months to put a missile through a garage door 300 miles away. He was frustrated that 'it took years to just put a traffic light up'. In that conversation he gave possibly the best example I've heard of how quick you can create destruction, but how you need to take the right amount of time to avoid it.
  11. Superb. I asked Mrs FP to spot where 2D became 3D in the second picture. She was amazed when I showed her the first picture as she thought the change was further back.
  12. Same in Engineering. All split up to suit the prevailing political dogma of the time. 30 years on it gives me no pleasure to point out to the younger generation that they are witnessing another example of the white heat of innovation in the sunny hills of the promised land. For 'white heat' read 'arson'. BR was far from perfect, but having been realigned into business units under Organising for Quality' it didn't need to be destroyed by privatising in the way it was. I've witnessed some fine examples of not integrating or innovating because 'we aren't paid to do that'. What is really meant is: 'You are employed to create the best return for our shareholders, not the best outcome for the railway'. Don't get me started. Oh, you did 🤣
  13. I've mentioned on another thread I'm having difficulty locating the paint others have recommended / have demonstrated on their topics (thank you for the current help/ inspiration @NHY 581 and @Worsdell foreverand others as well over time, whose work I have bookmarked). Have also been caught up with other life 'stuff' that crops up, so progress again has been slow. However, two sessions of tiddlywink shunting with two of the grandchildren, one having her first ever go, has been an entertaining diversion. An overall pic of Carriage Siding 2 as far as I've got tonight painting rails and baseplates. The paint I'm using is only in a small pot, but a little goes a very long way. The hunt is on tomorrow for the elusive paint for the next stage . . . .
  14. PM sent. Hope the attachments help. I suspect Cannon Street will be a 50ft turntable.
  15. Thank you Rob @NHY 581 . I tried a general store stockist of modelling paints in the local town yesterday (not a model shop) but they were out of stock. Although the only tin of Italian Red in the wrong slot made me think I'd got the last tin of Dark Earth. Hopes dashed. Will have to try further afield. Maybe by using Option TWO* and 'passing by' a supplier. *Take Wife Out. She is very supportive and used to me 'just popping in here for a few minutes' 👍
  16. Hi, I looked into similar turntables on the south eastern part of the SR a number of years ago. The framing supported timber decking. I am not on my computer, but I am 90% certain I have photos and drawings of these. If I recall correctly the only one with timber decking on that I have seen a photo of was in London, possibly around 1900/ 1920. As I understand it the timber decking on the outriggers was not replaced in later years if it needed attention - a maintenance saving. I'll see what I can find when I have some time on my computer.
  17. Me too! I was very proud of my 23% exam result in 3rd year. Exactly the result I needed to ensure I didn't do O level French, but got to do TD instead. 👍 Oddly I can't remember the percentage I got in TD. . . .
  18. I'm caught between a) wanting it done and b) wanting it done properly. In my experience a) is the Project Manager and b) is the Engineer (ie me). The issue that arises on this railway is that I am both . . . .😁 🤪
  19. This conversation is very timely. I received some of these stops as part of a present (under 'What do you want, we have no idea what to get you'). May I ask what rail colour you have used Rob @NHY 581? I've started rail painting, following another topic, but it needs darkening up. I am planning to obtain some railmatch 'sleeper grime' and was wondering if that is what you have used?
  20. Happy New Year Rob. Looking forward to watching your topic and associated wanderings in 2024 👍
  21. Happy New Year Chris. What are your plans for Warren in 2024?
  22. Two points fully operational mechanically. What a faff-on! Now to wire them up. Doesn't look like I'll be running trains before I go back to work. I've underestimated the time I needed to do things and have just about got through my pre-Christmas list of things to do before putting the railway back together. The two things that are left are to finish are painting the carriage sidings and to do a backscene to hide the new storage sidings. I think they may also both take longer than I had planned for.
