  1. I have decided that I need a new thread to go along with the refurbishment of Lochnagar. I hope you will all continue to drop by with comments & encouragement from time to time. I will put a link to this page at the bottom of the topic started by Mark Miller, but I will be posting to this thread from now on. I look forward to welcoming friends old and new who have enjoyed seeing what Mark did with the layout and are just as interested in the plans I hope to develop in the future. Pepsi 1st a couple of original pictures from when I 1st bought the layout
  2. I've moved the question to the questions, help and tips section as suggested. http://www.rmweb.co....-help-and-tips/ Pepsi
  3. From the following report I found on the web, Micro Metalsmiths are not quite the same company that produced the J39. Shame the fledgling Model business turned sour for the company, it would have been great to see a project like this succeed. Pepsi
  4. Good morning Edwardian. I came across this website while surfing the interweb & thought it might be of interest. From what I have seen of the figures on this website, they may fit in well with your layout and would something small to be going on with until the outbuilding is civilised. Just a thought, Pepsi http://www.acstadden.co.uk/
  5. Their Tripadvisor page is a pleasant distraction as well. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g188595-d1546659-r115653559-Museum_Stoomtram_Hoorn_Medemblik-Hoorn_North_Holland_Province.html#photos;geo=188595&detail=1546659&ff=217353155&albumViewMode=hero&albumid=103&baseMediaId=217353155&thumbnailMinWidth=50&cnt=30&offset=-1&filter=2 Lots of good photographs. 6. Hi Guys, Many thanks for the replies. I might try the BB w irons route. Pepsi
  7. Did the etched underframe for these tank wagons ever appear? Pepsi
  8. I must be a blessing for train drivers these days, that on such a working a banking engine is not required. Pepsi
  9. Hi Quarryscapes, I think the quality of the two wagons in the photo is superb, am I correct in guessing they are 2mmfs? Also a guess WRT 3D printed or etched chassis: I've gone for the lower wagon being the etched chassis & the upper one, 3D printed? Pepsi
  10. Hi Mark, Just received my copy of Hornby magazine and clocked Rannoch on the front cover. Congratulations on an excellent article, Nigel Burkin's pictures look superb and really show your layout at it's best. It was fun reading about the cottage and the whirligig washing line A shame Nigel didn't get a picture of the front door complete with letter box (that no one ever gets to see) Well done Mark. Pepsi PS It's incredible to think that Rannoch was begun back in 2009
  11. Hi Trev, If you're looking for a stronger platform top, but didn't want to use plasticard. How about plylite? It's a thin plywood used, I would guess from the following link, by model boat builders. http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/birch_plywood.html Pepsi
  12. Hi Trev, I've been enjoying your posts about the layout and am impressed with the way that you've tried various techniques. As to the question of supporting the Platform top: How about using balsa wood as a substructure. If you know where the lights are going to be fitted, you can use a block of balsa as an anchor point Alternatively a square length of balsa, cut to the requisite height and placed along the alignment of where the light fittings will go. As always, your layout, your decision. Keep up the good work. Pepsi
  13. Tarifa, I think EP means engineering prototype, although I'm happy for other with more knowledge to correct me. Pepsi
  14. As Dunsignalling said, I am also going to get a standard livery Peckett. Although, it will be perfect for my Whisky Distillery layout, I can even justify it as being bought from the Papermill down the line. The premise is: After Queen Victoria died, the Deeside line was extended passed Ballater to supply the "Royal Lochnagar distillery" that still exists near Balmoral. It will also have passenger workings as well as timber traffic from the nearby forests. It is a 12ft long (four scenic boards) 3ftx 2ft plus fiddle-yard. From fiddle yard to station to Distillery terminus, 4mm transition green Diesel era (mostly) layout. Still working on the base boards, but hope to start a post on RMWeb once they are assembled. Pepsi Thanks for the prompt Phil, edit completed.
  15. Hi Sam, The blending of the 3D foreground into the 2D background is very effective with the inclusion of the embankment and trees. Pepsi
  16. Hi Dave, Any travel plans finalised for 2016? We all know you have to keep many plates spinning, but it would be nice to know if you are going to make any personal appearances in 2016. If you do make it to Perth at the end of June, it would be good to be able to catch up on the latest developments. Pepsi

    Ask Dave

Hi Dave, I'm heartened to learn that things are still moving forward on the Class 17, even if it is slowly. The manufacturing landscape in China has changed considerably since you made your initial announcement, so the news that progress is still being made is still good news. I look forward to the eventual release of the N Gauge 17. Ray Pepsi Colla
  18. Hi Ben & Mike, I, like others who have already posted here, am also gutted that the 29 failed to make the cut. As Robert said, I also hope that Dapol will pick up where you have left off once the 4mm 21/29 is released and hopefully will sell well. I'm looking forward to the release and fully intend to buy a couple of the green types. Thanks for attempting the seemingly impossible (it now seems) of stirring up the N gauge community with what would have been a very exciting project. Pepsi
  19. Hi Mike & Ben, Sorry that I posted this is the wrong place: I'm sure that there would be less research required with the early Diesel as Dapol has already done the vast majority of it already with the 4mm version. So, once again, can I ask any waverers who model the transition era in N, pleased pledge your support and get the 21/29 over the finish line before it's too late. I've put down for 2 units Ray "Pepsi" Colla
  20. Hi Paul, Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Pepsi
  21. Hi Mike & Ben, Having just read the last two pages of the posts here, it all seems focused on the 320. I was really looking for information WRT the 21/29. My personal position is, that there would be less research required with the early Diesel as Dapol has already done the vast majority of it already with the 4mm version. So if there are any waverers who model the transition era in N, pleased pledge your support and get the 21/29 over the finish line before it's too late. Ray "Pepsi" Colla
  22. Hi Andy, I've noticed a common theme in your layout updates, in that you have the same problem I do with the size of pictures you'd like to post here. I recently discovered that if you open the digital image from your pictures folder you wish to post, then look at the top of the page and select "email". When the dialog box opens, select the picture size, small medium large etc. Then click attach, this should open an outlook page with the picture attached. Copy or cut the attached file back to a folder on your PC/Laptop, rename if necessary. Hey presto, it should be a much smaller picture you can post to RMweb. I'm using windows 8, so I don't know if this works for XP or other earlier windows versions, although I'm fairly sure it will work for windows 7. Regards, Ukpepsi
