  1. Looks as if NBC Poppy Red and NBC Green are visible, so likely for the Leyland Nationals of Ribble, Crosville and others. I would like to think that Ribble maroon and cream is there too, for the Leyland/Burlingham PD3/4 which I bring into correspondence with Jason Shron from time to time!
  2. Far from 'banging on', I have offered corrections and (hopefully) constructive criticism politely to Hornby, but of course you have no way of knowing that. My comments are personal observations but scrutiny of previous comments by others says a lot too.
  3. Proof, if proof were needed, that Hornby is now primarily led by individuals who by and large are not model railway enthusiasts. Some basic errors in descriptions of products, the increasing prices for all models but particularly older toolings and a lack of interest in liason with dealers, to put it politely. Really sorry to see this happening.

  6. 92010 arrived safely this afternoon, stunning detail and just a magnificent achievement in 1:76 scale. May I congratulate Accurascale once again for producing the highest quality models at the best prices and for their prompt and well packed delivery in time for Christmas, the rush to dispatch the latest batch must have been incredible. I am a collector who mainly displays models and I feel I must place the 92 and my two Accurascale Deltics apart from others to avoid comparisons! 50017 will be joining them next year. Anyway, best wishes to you all at Accurascale and have a great (rest at!) Christmas and a happy and successful 2023. This year must have been a great ride! Sir W

Regarding the discussion on whether 50017 had orange cantrail stripes when first painted in NSE livery, those who have pointed out that these stripes were initially only on the cab rain gutters are correct. The best reference to this is on P.81 of "Class 50s - The Large Logo Years" by Ian Horner. There is a clear photo of 50017 at Laira in full NSE livery without numbers and logo. P.80 of the same publication shows 50023 at Waterloo on the first day, also with the orange stripes only on the gutters.

Maybe a minor point, but Hornby still perpetuate the fitting of two sets of guard irons and axlebox splash shields on later A3s (and A4s), which had mostly, if not completely, disppeared by 1960. Below is my interpretation, not perfect, but looks better to me! Colossal price for the latest Dublo models too.
  9. D9019 arrived from Rails this morning, so time for a comparison. The Bachmann holds up well for a 2008 model but the quality of Accurascale's detailing and moulding tops it. Closer than I expected!
  10. Am I doing something wrong? In the e-mail from AS there are links to Support such as fitting bufferbeam detail, body removal etc. When I click on them all I get is a Support page with a pic of 55016 but I can progress no further. Suggestions please, many thanks.
  11. Thanks McC for your quick reply, the 92 buffer beam detailing looks very well fitted and is a perfect solution for my needs and hopefully many others. Once again well done Accurascale, looking forward to 92010!
  12. Fran and team, my apologies as I don't know if this has been raised in connection with the Class 92s but would it be possible to deliver them with bufferbeam detail fitted at one end? For those like myself who are not that skilled in fitting these items it would be a huge boon. I'm hoping that my DPS and Rails Deltics are easy to do when they arrive. I confess I am a collector who mainly displays my models and only runs them occasionally, but I am sure there are others like me out there for whom the pre-fitted detail would be highly useful. I know that suggestions are read by the team at Accurascale so hope that my contribution is at least considered. Congratulations by the way to Fran and the team who seem extremely helpful and pro-active and seem to have produced a masterpiece with their production of the Deltic.

There is an undated B&W photo of 6202 on Page 102 (upper) of "The LMS Turbomotive" by Clements & Robinson, 2016, published by Crecy Press which depicts the loco entering Crewe wearing faded Crimson Lake livery with deflectors and extended reverse turbine casing. The livery is identifiable by the two stripes along the footplate as black locos only had one. The same book states that the smoke deflectors were fitted in February 1939.

  17. Hi Fran, For some like myself, it would be great to have a pre-installed headcode either end of my D9019 which would give a choice of whether to remove the body or not. (1A35 & 0Z00? ) Thanks.
  18. Odd that so many posts about modern diesel & electric locomotives like the Class 59/60/66/90/92, when referring to the area under the buffers, call this an air dam. At the speeds involved such a device would be of negligible use! The usually reinforced plate is there to do exactly what the official description refers to as an obstacle deflector, it is probably effective in clearing light snow too. Indeed the Class 60 and the continental spec Class 66s incorporate a snowplough. Every time I see "air dam" used in connection with locomotives it puts me in mind of 'Max Power' air dam fitted Dimma-spec Peugeot 205s and 306s. Maybe an F1 DRS fitted Class 66 would use less fuel after all - less downforce !

  22. The loco carried both names at various stages of it's life. When new (as No. 2564) in 1924 and until December 1932 it was named KNIGHT OF THE THISTLE. New KNIGHT OF THISTLE nameplates were cast and these remained on the loco until withdrawal in 1964. The new name Knight of Thistle was wrong for both the racehorse (winner of the 1897 Royal Hunt Cup) and the Scottish noble Order of the Thistle. At least BR got it right on 87014! On the subject of the press release it is good to see No. 45 has LEMBERG plates on the loco, not LEMBURG as in the header.
