      My workbench shows my struggle.

  3. I kinda feel stupid that I managed to break my watch chain while dismounting my bike. The replacement cuts into my hobby money..x.x

      69843

      That's not good.

As long as you don't have to replace the watch though!

      Spitfire2865

Thats true! Id rather break a $15 watch chain than my grandfathers watch.

  4. I hate waiting for the mail...

Dont you also have terrible shipping costs?

    3. 69843

      69843

Yep. For example, there is a $20 shipping fee from Shapeways, which is excellent for a $5 model...:-<

      Spitfire2865

      Wow thats bad.

  5. Yes! I finally have an order for some more kits! Three kits, two LMS opens and a MR box van. And a hopeful attempt at a scratchbuilt LNWR open.

  6. Why whenever I email a company, they dont bother to respond? Do they not want sales?

If you're phoning them anyway, might as well deal with the subject of the email (?)

      Spitfire2865

I cant phone them. Im in the US, theyre in the UK, I cant make international calls.

But I mean a company which seems to solely be based around an email. I found a wagon tarp maker who has a single email to his site. Emailed him a few questions and no response in over a week.(still not too late to give up) Or a custom lead weight company months ago. I understand a few days because something couldve come up. But really? Weeks to months? I just think if youre going to run a business you...

  7. Well. The amount of work needed to remove one crest makes me not want to tackle the other for a few days. And with a new job, dont get much time to sit down to work. Well, I can always work on my tarpaulin techniques. (Need ink)

  8. I seem to have lost motivation to do any form of modeling...Should be back in a week or so..ughhhh

  9. Ok then...after studying the Pug and finding a diagram sheet...I have discovered what I wanted to do is impossible without cutting wires...I cant solder...well.. i guess tons of masking and not making a mess of things.

Remove the BR crest, number board, and builders plate printing. I found using the turtle wax polish with a polishing pad in an electric drill works quickly. Just makes a bit of a mess and with the cab body, ending the job under a strong tap made quick work of clean up. Cant really run a whole loco under water so I need to mask A LOT and take it very slowly.

      Nelson Jackson

I have a pug, ill take a look tomorrow if you want? I'm fairly sure there has to be a way of removing the body and cab.

    4. Spitfire2865

      Spitfire2865

The cab yes, the body shell is also the footplate which the motor wires go through. To remove the body shell you have to cut the wires. Im just going to mask it to hell and carefully not make a mess with turtlewax.

  10. Painting figures. And removing the printing from my pug. Just have to figure out how to disassemble the body...

    4. Spitfire2865

      Spitfire2865

Thanks. I found using turtle wax makes a bit of a mess and I want to be able to run the body shell under a tap at the end to remove the leftover polishing compound. And well...I have no skills to make a new mech, nor would I like to ruin a new loco in the first place.

  11. Well, vacation coming to a close. Not much I can say.

Damn. My vacation goal is unachievable then. Hmm. Maybe Ill stumble across something. I managed to in Paris.

There used to be a decent train section in one of the larger toy stores, but that went. There's Hobbyland at the end of the Vondelpark but even given my interest in Dutch stuff, I didn't find a huge amount there a year ago - friendly enough shop, though, but check opening times.

    4. Barry Ten

      Paris is much better, indeed.

  13. Well in London I found a Hornby Pug, in France I found an Oxford Diecast traction engine...must find something hobbylike in Amsterdam and Brussels. Haha.

  18. Scratchbuilding a balsa plane. Wish I had a laser cutter. Its so fun to spend 10 minutes cutting and sanding a part just to have it snap in your hand.

Yeah. I ordered just one sheet of press-fix so that may have been a part of it, but in the past UK to US takes at least a week. This was less. I was so amazed to find it in my mailbox today. I would send them an email and ask about shipping to Aus. Might be a really good idea for you.

Ha ha, I bet that was spectacular ? Sorry I laughed but it took me back to my childhood, when we watched a friends of ours fly his petrol engined spitfire, it went up and round and then down, down, down bang, propellor first Into the field surface, smashed to smithereens, he almost cried and 5 or 6 us 10 & 11 year olds just gawped as it happened, and then laughed but said "that was greeeeeat Martin, do it again"

    4. Spitfire2865

      Spitfire2865

No its fine to laugh. I did too to be honest. It wasnt too labour intensive anyway. A week of my life and $20 from an amazon gift card. And I already have plans for another. Next one Id like to fit with full RC gear.

  25. Ordered pressfix letters. Probably will be a week till I get them. Planes almost flight ready. And i have to write essays...
