  1. Never give kids alcohol, they start singing all the rude songs they've learned off their friends! Some are quite unsuitable for parental ears... I went to a party where a parent had made some Dandelion and Burdock for the children, but had followed the alcoholic recipe rather than non-alcoholic one. After all the partygoers started singing, the drink was quickly withdrawn for the minders!
  2. I see the plod took exception to the jousting pole!
  3. If you go down to the woods today...
  4. Hmmmmmm.... So why has the poor marsupial on the right got a flag stick growing out of the side of their head? You should have stuck with AI.... Given the stupidity of the 18th Century Admiralty, if Cook had indented for a quantity of lime, he would have ended up with carts of building materials queueing at the dockside!
  5. Somebody To Love - Queen
  6. Yucca? Thats a ruddy Triffid! They get very territorial, you know....
  7. Thats just flushing the system....
  8. Route maps in Latin tended to be on scrolls and used rather like a satnav. "Ursus sinister xvii mille passus"
  9. Oh, and it's "British people". Come on, get with the program!
  10. Just a couple of quibblettes Its Beans ON Toast. We WAIT in queues, we don't travel in 'em. Must have been written by a benighted foreigner.... 🤪

Hurrah! Another solid resin "coal" locomotive. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265074104389 Claimed to be "Very good, like New!" despite obvious bits having been broken off...
  12. Air fryers are useful if you're cooking for yourself and if what you're cooking is small enough to fit in the basket/slidey drawer thing/whatever and you'd otherwise use an oven. They're like a conventional fan oven but use less energy (ie cheaper to run) as there's less volume to heat up/keep to temperature. However, I don't think they reduce cooking times.

It doesn't say L@@K RARE!!! either...
  14. People buy 'em to do their fish'n'chips in, then wonder what else they can be used for. I've leafed through a couple of air fryer cookbooks, and most recipes are for the things that urban hipsters eat. The TV programmes are the visual equivalent!

For British "N", approximating to a scale of something like 1:148, which is the scale for British stuff that runs on 9mm gauge track. Continentals use 1:160, though other regions use slightly different scales for 9mm gauge stuff. British "N" is perilously close to TT:120!
  16. I placed an order with Amazon on the last day of my holliers (Thurs) and they promised faithfully to deliver on Sunday, which was fine by me. I arrived home on Friday morning and looked at emails to find that not only had it been dispatched, but that it would be arriving within the next couple of hours... Doorbell rang and the parcel was HANDED over! 10/10! Best thing was the confirmation of delivery email some minutes later that claimed that the item had been "posted through my letterbox"... I've just checked, and it definitely wouldn't have fitted, even with the aid of a lump hammer!
  17. @Happy Hippo you may be amused to learn that I passed adjacent to the borders of Telfland to and from my mid-week break location. Naturally, I didn't stop to explore... 🤪
  18. What DH means is that someone will precede him carrying one as an encouragement...
  19. Reminds me of the 1840s Gauge Wars, and we all know that Parliament decided that wider gauges should be converted to the more common narrow gauge... 🤪

    Suck it and see?
  21. Flanged plateways were common because it meant the wagon wheels could be made by ordinary wheelwrights as the wheels didn't have a flange. Theoretically the wagons could run onto a road surface... 😁 Plateways date back to 16c German mining practice. Their tracks were made entirely from wood...
  22. George Stephenson* probably couldn't be bothered thinking up a fancy name. See it, say it, sorted! * Placeholder name for any early railway engineer...
  23. Sure the locos not derailed due to bad back-to-backs? 🤪
