  1. Also depends on what they are told by the relevant Press Office. You only need to see the Press Release, from Network Rail, for the recent Sheffield derailment.
  2. If it looks like the top photo, in the blue / grey livery, then that’ll be fine by me..... But we will have to wait and see how many variations, in style, are produced.
  3. Supposedly to increase the turn-round time at Seaford, whilst on the West Coastway, the Brighton - Portsmouth / Southampton services are having extra stops inserted, reducing their times at either end!
  4. AG is the Canton. Aargau. Similar to Buchs SG is in the Canton of St.Gallen.
  5. Wonder what he says about the quarrying nearby at Langton Matravers and the large lorries that use that road....
  6. Rebuilt from other Waycars (as the Santa Fe used to refer to Caboose as) between 1969 and 1970.
  7. I try to avoid switchbacks where possible, they seem unreal as they are generally too short, as it could mean having to move a car that is being unloaded by another industry.
  8. You'd always get someone who thought they could get away with anything.... When I was on the Relief staff, we had a job that mutually changed over at 1pm (vice 3pm) on a Saturday. Needless to say, being Relief, I was invariably Late Turn on a Saturday. My last shift in that job I was actually Early Turn. Yes, you can guess I didn't get relief until 3pm. Roll forward 20 years when I was a Controller, and he was a Signalling Shift Manager. Payback time came at about 2am, when I was doing a driver a favour, at the expense of the SSM....
  9. Another informative link with regards to Santa Fe diesels:- http://old.atsfrr.org/resources/CrossetGene/ATSF_master_diesel_roster/index.htm
  10. You can't go wrong with some prairie skyscrapers (grain elevators) and a few PS-2CD 4427 Covered Hoppers....
  11. But..... Only repeating what the Network Rail Media Centre said.... 'The derailment happened at about 2:45am, with a train carrying cement coming off the tracks while passing through platform one at the station. It was a slow speed derailment, but multiple carriages of the 34-car train have come off the tracks. There is no indication as to the cause at this time.' https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/major-disruption-at-sheffield-station
  12. It appears to be my computer that is the issue.... The link takes me to the pages I access to edit! And the other link tells me it's not safe according to Google... https://deadwoodcityrailroad.blogspot.com/
  13. What isn't there to like about passenger trains.... A Bill Gibson photo, taken in 1970, in Denver, with Train No.191 to La Junta. Steam Generator Car, Baggage Car and Chair Car.
  14. I model the Santa Fe, in Kansas, 1968. Essentially a branch line, with the obligatory one train a day in each direction. Combines were on the way out, but a caboose is essential. Plenty of F units, and GP7's and 9's. I rely on quite a substantial library I've built up over the years. https://www.blogger.com/u/1/blog/posts/2013977473314576196
  15. If you want to see the difference between Code 83 \ 70 \ 55, then my previous layout had all 3 in this photo...
  16. I use Code 100, find it just as good for all my US stock. Once ballasted and weathered it doesn't look to bad.
  17. Means if I want one then I'll have to renumber it....wasn't expecting that!
  18. First visit this year to the Swanage Railway. Overall, it was ok, but you could tell it wasn’t normal times. Toilets and shop accessible at Swanage but not the buffet. Barriers on the platform where you had to queue behind, but then allowed on to the platform with plenty of time to see the loco up front. The journey was ok, no-one stopped you having windows open or sticking your head out. Corfe was busy.... The small museum was open at Corfe. On return at Swanage, you were directed towards the exit, but were free to watch the loco run-round, or go back behind the barriers to use the toilet or visit the shop. Staff were friendly too. Mind you, three round trips were expensive, but as this would be my only visit this year, then I can understand the pricing regime. And I bought some stuff from the shop.....
  19. Had planned to go on the RPSI International Tour (again!) this year, and it does look vaguely US (for some reason...), so had to get one!
  20. Had an enjoyable day on the IOWSR, whilst on holiday on the island. The procedure is you join at Havenstreet, and book a round trip, including running non-stop from Smallbrook to Wootton. You are then allocated a compartment. However, you can join at either Wootton or Smallbrook, but you cannot book online or just turn up and go. We joined at Wootton, as we use the buses when on the island. The lady taking the bookings arranged everything, as we wanted two round trips, with a break at Havenstreet for a look around, along with a bite to eat from the outside cafe (as the restaurant is closed). And I spent money in the shop too.... As regards the actual travel, there was an empty compartment for us at Wootton. On arrival at Havenstreet, staff open the doors to allow staggered alighting, to avoid bunching at the exit. They then clean the compartments. Passengers leave the platform by turning left towards the waiting room, whilst joining the train is via the other side of the track. There is another crossing now opened up for moving between either side. Not quite the same as previous, but a good arrangement for the current ‘normal’. From what I could see, the majority of people seemed happy with everything.
  21. I've been travelling on Southern's West Coastway service throughout the period. From having a coach to myself in the early days, now you are lucky, during the off-peak, to get either a bay or two airline style seats to yourself, with many standing, so as to social distance. As for masks, it's probably about 75% compliance, that other 25% probably being split 15% youngsters and 10% older people.
  22. 18 bids already on one of them.....
  23. What worries me more is whether the restrictions on going in to a smaller shop will put many off. I went in to one of them, down on the South Coast, last Saturday, and knew what I wanted but usually browse and end up with more. However, whilst the staff were friendly and helpful, I felt under pressure to get the one item and get out, as there was another person outside waiting to come in. So all I spent was the minimum.
  24. More like, now we can go on holiday, the butt will fill up and overflow....
