James May's split-tip screwdriver

Or rub your chosen standard screwdriver tip on a strong magnet, works really well picking up and replacing Bachmann body mounting screws etc -
Sutton's Locomotive Works class 24
tractor_37260 replied to Dan Griffin's topic in Smaller Suppliers
The alternative settings work really well, and as mentioned may suit some more than others, but it does add a different set of sound settings for FREE to an already excellent package. Hopefully a New Year mailshot from SLW will announce 24's with head code boxes, with some featuring headlights ...........? -

Good news indeed (if) a H/C box 24 is on the cards, although I'm also hoping a ScR 24 with the discs "centered" on the nose end doors is also being considered ? - as this nose end tooling already exists - see photo 4 of the SLW home page....... -
New Lenz LH101 Handset, CV Editor 1.2.0
tractor_37260 replied to RFS's topic in DCC Discussion Topics (not questions)
Yep maybe V4.0 will eventually arrive. Last I heard was that Lenz and Roco were in a dispute over Railcom ? I think, or it's implementation. As for the new LH101, ahem I'll stick with my LH100 for now thanks............. -
Hopefully the ScotRail Swoosh livery will be done in the future.....?

A good description of the 21pin MTC variations here, which may or may not help .................? http://www.sbs4dcc.com/tutorialstipstricks/21mtcconnector.html

I've used a number of these TCS EU621 decoders mainly in Bachmann 21 pin Class 20's, all 6 functions worked as intended, I assume this means they are MTC compatible ? They appear to be to NEM660 spec, and surprisingly not to NMRA MTC spec, being produced in "Trump" land lol More here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/116484-tcs-eu621/ HTH Ken

Hi Neil Quote - "I think the CV's you have quoted at the bottom are for remapping the functions" NO The decoders are supplied with these settings as DEFAULT the 6 functions worked by Keys F0 f&r F1 F2 F3 F4 As supplied, function outputs 3 & 4 ("Brown/Pink") should work on F Keys 3 & 4 I have remapped functions 1 2 3 and 4 to different F keys on the only example I presently have, so that would only confuse the issue. Try fitting the decoder to a 21pin loco, and wiring up the correct pins (at the circuit board solder tabs - NOT directly to the decoder) for the Aux 3 & 4 outputs, then connect to LED's via resistors the + commons all being connected together, then try using F Keys F3 and F4 this will confirm if they work or not. This photos below shows the 21 pin connection points for Aux 3 & 4 using an EU621 - Red wire(5) = Aux FO 3 Green wire(6) = Aux FO 4 HTH Ken

Being a 21pin decoder, if fitted to most standard 21 pin locos, only F0f & F0r and F1 would likely work, these being the front and rear directional lights and possibly cab lights ? via F1. To use the remaining function outputs F02 / 3 / 4 would require adding additional connections/wiring up to the main circuit board. Provided you can read CV's ? CV's 53 & 54 control Function outputs 3 & 4 - check these both read 32 = constant output in both directions - these should already be set as supplied. IF these are both set at 0 these outputs won't work, or show as working on an ESU decoder tester. I've previously used a number of these decoders, and they all worked OK - which included using all 6 function outputs for independent lighting circuits etc. HTH Ken Edit: The default CV's and F keys for the EU621 are as follows: F0f &F0r CV33=1 and CV34=2 via Key F0 F output 1 (Green) CV35=4 via Key F1 F output 2 (Purple) CV36=8 via Key F2 F output 3 (Brown) CV39=16 via Key F3 F output 4 (Pink) CV40=32 via Key F4

Now available to Pre-order at Hattons - £33 each - assume that includes the recent price rise ?

Oxford Rail announces - OO gauge Mk3 coaches
tractor_37260 replied to MGR Hooper!'s topic in Oxford Rail
At the projected price (REX mag review) of £34.95 they are bound to sell well, when you consider the present RRP of various other avail coaches, and some yet to be produced.................. Edit: £29 each - via Pre order at Hattons ! -
Facts: The MK1 BSO has not been available RTR previously, and the only MK1 FO produced so far, was done by Replica Railways many moons ago, Bachmann I believe ? do not have access to this tooling, hence it's not in their range.
-
Excellent - finally a RTR Mk1 BSO ! Twas always puzzled why Bachmann did not add this coach to their Mk1 range, despite being popular in most polls, perhaps they will now..............as often happens ?

36-151 Plasser OWB10 with Crane - DCC socket fitted ?
tractor_37260 replied to tractor_37260's topic in Bachmann
Which is it ? - I'm confused - I'm aware the earlier 36-150 version did NOT have a socket - anyone else care to comment on the 36-151 !! -
Can anyone who has a Bach 36-151 Plasser confirm if an 8 pin DCC socket is fitted ? TIA

tractor_37260 replied to Dan Griffin's topic in Smaller Suppliers
Noticed recently that on the SLW home page - photo 4 shows a nose end tooling with the discs/lamps "centered" on the plated over doors, as per some ScR 24 examples. As the tooling appears to already exist, hopefully a model featuring this will be released sometime soon ? -
Lima LMS 42ft GUV - roof removal?
tractor_37260 replied to ejstubbs's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
As others have posted the roof and glazing are one piece, as per most Lima coaches. To avoid cracking the roof, push a toothpick end or similar, in at the bottom of each window to release the glazing, the roof should then pop up and can be removed. -

Bachmann Diesel Sound Locomotives - Loksound Chip Versions
tractor_37260 replied to D400's topic in DCC Sound
AFAIN only Bach train set locos 37 418 and 20088 have had Loksound "Selects" fitted so far, most likely to keep the overall cost of the set down. However if it's their intention to fit these to all sound fitted locos. I certainly won't be buying any especially at the current prices. -
Bachmann Diesel Sound Locomotives - Loksound Chip Versions
tractor_37260 replied to D400's topic in DCC Sound
As originally supplied by Bachmann, 37 417 had a Loksound V4.0 fitted, the volume range being 0 - 192. Some early Bachmann V4.0 sound locos came with the earlier instruction sheet for V3.5 fitted models - hence the Vol showing 0-64. Easy way to check is on the rear of the speaker - it should read 4ohms for a V4.0 Loksound or 100ohms for a V3.5. -
When will we see a SLW class 25
tractor_37260 replied to The Ghost of IKB's topic in Smaller Suppliers
The circuit board schematic diagram on the SLW website page shows function output options for front and rear headlights - only ScR 24/1's with headcode boxes had them fitted - no headlights on 25's ? so hopefully ? As for the option of a Bach v SLW 24/1 -that's a no brainer regardless of when either of them eventually appear.... -

tractor_37260 replied to Dan Griffin's topic in Smaller Suppliers
Interesting comments re the 24's with centered discs and a possibility or not of a ScR 24/1. Worth noting the main circuitboard diagram on the SLW web site shows 2 function outputs for headlights......the board being generic......so hopefully a 24/1 has been considered. From the above photos of 24 063 the revised rad grills have not as yet been fitted at production -
New Top Gear - 5 mins of the 1st episode was enough of that....... YES Jerry was outragous and outspoken at times but along with May and Hammond made for a very watchable and entertaining programme Thankfully we now have the 3 amigos on Amazon.....
