  1. Carrs weathering powders are another option, available from C & L etc
  2. ??? That's just not possible with the airbrushes I use, a Badger and Kager, the needles having finely tapered ends, that are a precision fit in the nozzles, can only be removed from the rear. It may be possible to remove from the front, but only AFTER the nozzle assy has been removed, certainly NOT through it.
  3. Em no - only 6 outputs are used (at present) - 2 for the markers/ 2 for the tail lights / 2 for the cab/engine room lights = 6 Perhaps an "ESU" sound fitted version did sound very good, BUT I doubt it had the same quality of drive ability and features etc ? none of my many Bif's/Howes/SWD versions have ! The SLW 24 is by far the best sounding model loco I've heard to date, and I'm sure many would agree with that. Regards Ken
  4. All early Bachmann 37's had 4 axle drive and 8pin DCC circuit boards, including these below, they may be others also ? 37403 BR Green 37419 EWS 37408 Large Logo 37429 Regional Railways 37412 Transrail 37411 Large Logo 37671 Railfreight Distribution 37431 Intercity Mainline (sort of!) 37678 Railfreight Redstripe + these had the first ? revised tooling - with no cab porch/better cantrail shape etc 37 038 BR Blue S/B 37 238 BR Blue D6707 BR Green S/B D6826 BR Green The first 37's to have 6 axle drive still had 8 pin DCC circuit boards: 37 410 / 37 692 etc.....
  5. The Kadee "metal" gauge #205 also has a sliding pin that checks the height of magnets between the rail heads, but must only be used with the POWER OFF !
  6. It's all too easy to nip/break the wires IF the "Hornby Tool" slips on the greasy plastic, safer to use a small flat bladed jewellers screwdriver and prise the plug carefully out from each side.
  7. My understanding was that Ex Light Grey was used on the lower coach sides on both Inter-City 125 and INTERCITY (Swallow) liveried coaches. On Swallow liveried versions, it's possible "Falcon Grey" was used instead of Ex Dark Grey on the upper bodysides/rooves. However locos painted into INTERCITY Swallow livery - (37/43/47) had "Silver White" on the lower bodyside, with the upper bodyside and roof being "Falcon Grey" The N gauge Dapol versions are very impressive, but it's a shame they got the red/white lining widths wrong - the white line should be narrower than the red - the exact opposite to what's been applied to the models.
  8. Kadee make two versions of the "delayed un-coupler magnets" #321 for Code 100 track and #322 for Code 75/83. Kadee also have an alignment jig available to set the magnet accurately in the track at the correct height relative to the the rail heads etc, part # 734. The coupler trip pins can then be set at the correct height using their gauge #205 - this gauge can also be used to check the magnet is fitted at the correct height.
  9. Of note 24 033 still had water tanks when at Swindon Scrapyard in 1977, 063 is a possible option it lasted till early 1979, one of the last two running, the other being 24 081 HTH Ken
  10. 37 672 was as RSH build so should have cantrail grille supports/dividers, although it is strange how some photos of the model show them, others not ? As for the nose end grills, Drivers side nose grilles at both ends should have the central divider, both second man's side grilles being plain with no divider.
  11. To get around the perhaps "slightly" too much rev up before moving off Using a Lenz LH100 I set F7 and F5 then use 16/128 SS Once the loco just starts moving quickly switch F 5 OFF increasing the SS to 32/128 at the same time I find works really well.
  12. Although I'm not familiar with the Dapol 73 lighting problem, I did find when using Hattons's 21pin/8 pin decoders, that for some reason, CV's 33/34 could only be changed via POM, using a programming track resulted in "error 2"
  13. Not sure when they were first applied, but at least one DBSO - 9706 in Blue/Grey had Inter-City Scotrail brandings, also noted a MK3 Blue/Grey Sleeper at Glas QS with Inter-City Scotrail branding
  14. Good stuff ! Most of the queries i had on an ongoing 27 PP project answered in one thread ! Got the locos and a full early MK2s rake just got to sort out the 27/1 and 27/2 differences and the coach underframe equipment. Sound by the legoman in due course !!
  15. There's a shed load of 24/25's and hopefully others to be done first, if you had a 24, you would have noticed that the main circuit board is generic ! small clue in the site address............................ Merry Xmas
  16. As long as you can push buttons or turn a throttle knob ? - this loco almost drives itself !
  17. Getting this thread back OT Having now had the chance to examine/play with my new SLW sound fitted 24, I like it a lot. Yes the rad grilles are perhaps not ideal, but I'm sure that will be addressed on future models, and EE Brian will no doubt be considering some replacements. I also had some doubts about the cab glazing, but with the model to hand it's not as bad as I anticipated, although some suitable laser glaze replacements may improve it. I think the sound quality has raised the bar by quite a margin, compared to my other sound locos, this 24 has a much fuller and beefier sound, with more bass etc, which is quite an achievement considering the size of the fitted speakers. It takes a bit of time to get used to the ActiveDrive way of control, but it quickly becomes intuitive and rewarding, giving you more direct control, as opposed to having to drive the loco to suit the sounds. Yes some may think this loco is expensive, but for me it certainly ticks all the boxes for a sound fitted DCC loco that has it all, straight out of it's impressive box ! At the end of the day, like all things in life, we get what we pay for..................................................
  18. I would have thought perhaps a 24/1 would be the next logical choice ? ............................
  19. please feel free to pass it on if anyone can give him HER a nudge. (otherwise it will be a rebuilt bullied for me instead)
  20. My copy arrived today via Hermes in perfect condition, packed in a stout cardboard sleeve. Edit: Now had the chance to look through it, nice preface on the first built syphon's, with loads of excellent photos. The photo on page 31 proved interesting, (HR) 37 146 at Chessington. It's not that apparent from the photo, but this loco carried a "one-off" version of L/L Blue livery. Apart from the small arrows, it also featured a Blue roof / bonnet tops and cab window surrounds. So it's basically a BR Blue loco with full yellow cabs ends. Rumour has it the loco was required back in traffic before the L/L re-paint could be completed.
