  1. Andy, I have finally succeded - thanks to the assistance of your subscriptions helpline - it involved changing my password at your end to a temporary one, then me changing that to a new one. All good now! John.
  2. FAO AndyY Andy, I am still having no luck in completing my Premium membership subscription. Any assistance would be appreciated. John Isherwood.
  3. If you need them, you'll find some early ones on the CCT website. CJI.
  4. Perhaps the double fold is to produce a thicker fixing 'pin' to go into the hole? CJI.
  5. Please! My comments were not directed at you, but at the Hornby reps. who apparently made the erroneous statements. I neither know SK nor any other, present or former, member of Hornby staff, nor do I pretend to do so. To be absolutely clear - I was deriding manufacturers' staff who dish out, from a lack of knowledge, misinformation in answer to enquiries from potential customers. At no point were any of my comments directed at you. CJI.
  6. I am guessing that you have material for six hooks, as you surmise. What would result if you curved the strips in opposite directions at the two 'fold' lines - would that produce the reverse curve of the fire-iron hooks? CJI.
  7. A long shot !!! I have for disposal a large quantity of model railway and full scale railway magazines. The magazines are, in several cases, continuous runs from the 1960s, and occupy three book cases. The magazines, together with the book cases if required, can be collected from our home in Bodmin, Cornwall, at a mutually convenient time. If anyone is interested in acquiring these magazines, or knows of someone or some other organisation who may be, please let me know. The magazines need to be collected within a reasonably short timescale - the carpet beneath is to be replaced, and the bookcases are not going back! The alternative, unfortunately, is that the magazine collection will go for recycling. John Isherwood.
  8. Perhaps, but could you quote the number(s) that were authentic for that combination of features? Face it - manufacturers are aware of the demand, and would like to produce one or more milk tankers - but they are the ones who would have to stump up the investment. I would imagine that they are a little more cautious than you apparently are with their money! CJI.
  9. Whatever - if you don't know the answer, don't put your foot in it! CJI.
  10. Surely it would be better if sales persons who do not know the answer to a query did not make up wholly inaccurate response statements? All that needs to be done is to take down the questioner's contact details; promise to have someone with knowledge to contact them; and make sure that is what happens! CJI.
  11. Is it any wonder that many of us question the extent of Hornby's knowledge of the prototypes of models that they produce? CJI.
  12. Didn't you post this yesterday - and get no response? CJI.
  13. My Park Royal kit has had supplementary parts added by the seller; namely : - Hornby bogies, Hornby underframes, Romford wheels, injection-moulded seating, etched partitions and a Hi-Level Lo-Rider power bogie - though I may actually use a Hornby power bogie. CJI.
  14. Agreed - Trix started moulding buffer springs, drawgear, etc. in the 1960s - I've never understood why! CJI.
  15. My Park Royal (Class 103) kit is getting twitchy, too! CJI.
  16. I think that you just shot yourself - everyone, including you, followed the drift of the post in question. CJI.
  17. That GWR Prairie tank just looks so 'wrong' in LT livery! (..... and I won't even mention the added pump)! CJI.
  18. We're over-thinking this! Why did the tramway have a sub-standard gauge? Precisely so that STANDARD GAUGE railway wagons could run ON THE TIPS OF THEIR FLANGES in the tramway flangeways. On the tramway, the wagon wheel treads did not touch the tramway railheads. Flanges taper, hence the need for the the tramway gauge to be less than the railway gauge. Off the tramway, the dockyard tracks were perfectly normal, standard gauge dimensions. The wagons used over the tramway were bog-standard, mainline railway ones. CJI.
  19. ....... on both sides of the North Sea, and elsewhere, worldwide. Let's not get into judging the actions of our fathers' generation - it'll get messy! CJI.
  20. Andy, (Posted here as unable to PM AndyY). As I was unable to subscribe to the Premium membership a few days ago, due to website maintenance, I deferred trying again until today. I tried to login, to be told that my password was invalid. I asked to change my password, to be told a verification link would be sent - it wasn't. I tried again - no link. I then tried to re-register and provide a new password - to be told that I would be sent a verification link - it wasn't. If it is so difficult / impossible to pay £12.00 to BRM, it is perhaps not surprising that membership numbers are not as high as you might wish. Please can you direct me to a user-friendly method of subscribing to RMweb Premium and paying my £12.00. John Isherwood.
  21. A classic case of the 'gimmick' resulting in a backwards step in the overall accuracy and utility of a model. CJI.
  22. When it comes to chassis, the KISS principle applies, IMHO. Any form of wigglyness in a chassis always causes problems in my experience - I'm with Tony Wright on this one. CJI.
  23. Genesis kits can be a 'challenge'! CJI.
  24. Being pewter, it should be possible to straighten the castings by hand pressure alone. Place the casting on a piece of plywood / chipboard / etc., and apply steady, gentle downward pressure with a smaller piece of wood. Take it slow and steady - pewter will not like sharp, heavy bending and might crack. This warping problem is common to most whitemetal kits - easing out any distortion is one of the first tasks in building such kits. CJI.
  25. When first introduced, the PALVANs would have worked mainly in block trains to distribution depots, and then were returned to the factory. The CIRCUIT marking meant that the wagon was to be confined to that routing, to the best of my knowledge. A single PALVAN in a mixed goods train would have been unusual in the early days of their use. CJI.
