  1. The chassis may be even older than that. It's an old Triang 0-6-0 chassis wedged into a HD R1 body Quite a hybridosity!!! Cheers, Rich
  2. You done well there mate.! I would agree with @Flying Pig Re the cab. Also bunker rails don't look like a G5. If you decide to pass it on I'll be happy to give it a home😉 Cheers, Rich
  3. You're doing well . Ten layouts maximum is just about my attention span.😆
  4. Seller is Cash Converters Lancashire. Not noted for their knowledge of model railways ( or, apart from maybe computer games, much else for that matter) Cheers, Rich
  5. Hi Ged, Me too. When I got interested in DB/DR railways I foolishly bought a stack of books and mags that were way beyond my schoolboy German of 60 years ago. I installed ( well actually it was youngest son) Google Translate app on my moby. just take a pic of what you want to read press a ''button'' or two and you're away. Cheers, Rich.
  6. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335206668329 Quote ''Here is a super vintage Crescent free standing model railway signal. The signal measures approximately 4.5" high and is in good working order.'' First off round of applause for not using AI description . After that it's all down hill. How can it be in good working condition when there's 2 missing signal arms , and a broken lever? Clueless or what? TBH There are old dafties like me who enjoy sitting in front of the telly mending old Crescent signals (mebbe only once every 5 years though) If I'd spotted this on a boot sale I'd be happy to part with 20p for it just for the lever arms and one remaining signal just to put it out of its misery. Regards, Rich
  7. Mebbe it comes with a good box? Joking apart, the standard of modelling is way above mine but we do have just over 11 months to go before next christmas. Regards, Rich
  8. Hi @cypherman Your right ! ( as long as we accept this is an ''artists impression'' of the Lickey engine and no way a scale model😉 I'd forgotten that I have a Hornby working tender drive ''Godiva'' that has been dunked in green paint sometime in the past. The tender chassis is close enough for me and as I think you've already mentioned the loco body has possibilities. I'm only 20 mins from Peter's Spares and noticed he's got cheapo tender bodies and chassis to suit so rather than carve up Godiva I'll nip over and buy the spares, I've a spare tender drive unit to fit these. PS whilst looking for the Patriot I discovered another, long forgotten, 9f hidden away so I really must say thanks for prompting me. I'm now under strict instructions from herself to ''get that back bedroom sorted out''!! Regards, Rich
  9. Just spotted your posting. I maybe be wrong but I'm assuming you're replying to my 'Poor Mans'' Lickey posting? No I'm afraid the banker tender it isn't a standard Fowler tender. As @Compound2632 has said it was a one off. According to Bill Ibbot in the Nov1967 RM the tank was built new but the chassis dated ''probably'' (Ibotts words) from 1878. Yep I've plenty of scrapper 4f tenders but the GBL compound is in the worst condition so first in line for butchery. Project is in early thinking stages so progress will be slow. I'll maybe start my own thread on my misdeads. Cheers, Rich
  10. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285658325258? After a bit of good natured haggling I'll confess to having bought from this guy in Germany before when I was suffering from Vintage Marklin Madness .Their service was excellent. However, it would seem from these asking prices that old HD track is a sure fire way of enhancing the pensions of daft old HD dodgers like me. Mrs TinTracks has spotted this add and is suggesting that I get liisting my junk on ebayDE and we take a trip to Southampton in search of a second hand, ocean going, cruiser. Cheers, Rich
  11. Yep that's it. The Repair Shop A long while ago same bloke, Steve ?, got an old HD 2-6-4T in to repair. I shouted noooooo at the telly as he dismantled the motor and removed magnet and separated the wings that go round the motor. No mention of a re-mag at all. As I recall the lovely artist lady ''invisibly''touched in the lining. Hmmm ok then . The loco was handed back to the grateful owner minus its leading pony truck because that's how he recalled it as a child. ( I suppose rule 1 applies) I had a quick look at the vid in your link. The tinplate stock appeared to be in lovely condition. Reminded me of my first 0 gauge set age of 4. I'm jealous😉.
  12. Reading through their blah blah they say they can't answer specific questions because when item's are listed they're sent 'away' to be packaged ready for shipping to the lucky winner. A bit further down they say they offer combined postage. Ok then, if I win say 3 items do they unpack and then repack or just tape the 3 pre packed items together in one ooooge clump? Got me beat innit. Sounds more like a get out for not answering specific questions Cheers, Rich
  13. Wow, I like the sound of that! Reet up me street! Owing to the arthritis it's just a bit far for me to drive these days but I'm sorely tempted to take a trip when the weather improves just to check out the chuck wagon! Cheers, Rich.
  14. No probs. I'm certain that I've got a Wrenn 2r tender chassis that is no use to me and also a plastic body which fits but might be Mainline. Your'e very welcome to them . I'm just pleased to hear of another old wreck moving again Me and the missus have been on the gin tonight so got a bit of brain fog 🤪 . Will pm you after 6pm friday. I'm a bit short of A4 tender chassis but will see if I've any thing two rail hidden in the cupboard. I'm getting on a bit and the memory ain't what it was. Forgive me for asking but how did you get on with your Dublo armature rewind? I never mastered rewinds meself. I've a fair old stash of spare armatures for the 1/2'' motor but nothing for the Ringfield. Get back to you friday. Cheers, Rich.
  15. Ahhh, fond memories of The Station Inn at Ribblehead. I worked in the area for about a month 10 or 15 years back and would take lunch there every day. I now have a vision of Barnsley Chops and will struggle to sleep tonight. Just checked out the website. The place seems to have had an ID change and gone a bit posh. Do you know if the amusing weather forecasting stone is still dangling outside? No mention on website. Cheers Rich
  16. By Gum Paul . He's sharp off the mark tonight. It took him two days to offer me two quids off. Maybe reality is beginning to dawn? Hey Ho. Rich
  17. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156013296911? Starting price £999 plus £40 P&P. Don't worry there's 9 days to go so no rush to get your bids in PS looks to be some really nice boxes mind. Cheers Rich
  18. Hmm a tricky one that. I suppose that when Grandad passes his beloved ''train set'' gets dumped in a leaky shed/garage only to be rediscovered 25 years later. Time and the elements have taken their toll and, sadly, the result is inevitable. The family, maybe not enthusiasts rediscover the collection years later. They see Hornby Dublo on it and smell money. That Dorchester is a pretty bad one though. The seller started the bidding at £25, which if it was a BIN I think Iwould have bought it and taken a risk. I'm interested to see what it goes for. The prices for the Dublo 8f are all over the place. Back in November some lucky person picked up this 3 rail non runner for £18 including P&P https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225881212847? I wish I'd spotted that one as I've just coughed twice that for a couple of chassis!. As Chuck Berry sang ''You never can tell'' PS if you get stuck for a tender for your 8f pmail me. I might have a 2 rail substitute going spare. Cheers, Rich
  19. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/315070967324 This one made me choke on me beer . OK I know the descrition is AI and as such is low hanging fruit but don't anybody actually READ their own stuff before publishing. Apart from the syrupy line ''The green colour of the set adds a touch of realism, making it an excellent choice for Era 4 - British Railways Steam Era (1948-1956) enthusiasts.'' It goes on to tell us ''This set features two units of horse box and carriage, both in excellent ready-to-go condition.'' Now call me old fashioned but, apart from the damaged roof paint, there's no mention of the fact that there ain't no blxxdy doors mate!! (Boot sale/swap meet price worth a quid/ 30 bob each for the chassis, wheel couplings. I know there's after market replacement spare doors and I've had modest success with plastikard home made replacements) Cheerrs, Rich.
  20. Yes, I spotted that. I'm guessing at it going for north of sixty squids or so, I've a couple of 2 rail Barnstaples. I bought them both maybe 40 odd years ago on a visit to Hattons when they were giving them away. They're no way mint but in fair to good condition so decided to leave them well alone as ''runners'' (apart from converting to 3 rail). My problem is that over the years I've lost one of the tenders. I've seen spare tenders go for £30/40 on the bay so I think I'll make do with a fudge from a kit body on top of a Duchess tender chassis. Regards, Rich
  21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFxXqr-6Sdc Here's a nice vid of a Lombard wearing its summer clothes. Wheels on the front instead of skids. Watching the vid it seems to be a tricky beast to steer! Also liked the way the guy gives a hoot before setting off backwards. Cheers, Rich.
  22. http://tinyurl.com/yrpt7sws Warning. Those of a delicate disposition are advised not to click on this link. 🙂 I've revived some horrors in my time but am wincing at bit at this poor thing. To be fair the seller does describe it as ,ahem, 'poor'. I think tragic is a bit closer to the point. In good nick with the box and trimmings a 3 rail Dorchester can fetch daft money. This one has been converted to 2 rail at some time in it's life. A long while ago I mentioned a grading system used by an old friend of mine who sold 2nd vinyl hand records. It ran typically as M=mint , E= Excellent and so on through VG,G,F,P=Poor. He did have a lowest of the low grading grading which was POBAC = Previously owned by a cretin. I'll say no more.🙃 Regards, Rich
  23. Hi Danny. Love the project. As an extra bonus we also have some great music from my hero the legendary Doc Watson. Thanks for posting Regards, Rich
  24. Hi. Apologies for going OT but in answer to @Captain Slough and @cypherman I've dug out the RMs for Oct and Nov 1967 and taken a shot of the project ''ingredients'' compared to the Lickey Banker drawings. The 9f chassis is close enough for me and, working back from the smokebox door the Scot body certainly has potential, new chimney, dome, and safety valves, move boiler bands, shorten firebox, replace cab. I've got a white metal chimney in stock that will do nicely but I'm not sure which style of dome will do and would appreciate opinions. The 9f tender drive is a bit long in the wheelbase but I've a few contenders that will do. I'm looking into carving up a tender body from maybe the GBL Compound to go with the loco. PS. I knew there was a reason why I opted for a Scot body. In his book Fowler Locos, Brian Haresnape reckons that the Scot boiler was developed from that used on the Lickey Banker. I guess that's what inspired me. I'm trying to get up the courage to start a thread of my own over on the detailing and modifying section but I think I'd best get something actually finished first !🙃 Cheers, Rich
  25. Och fur shure. The birthlace of my great grandfather. Berwick on Tweed, in the Anglo Scottish Borderlands. A couple of hours drive north from me they may( or may not) still be at war with Russia!🙃 https://www.berwickfriends.org.uk/history/berwicks-war-with-russia/
