  1. Just showed your posting to Mrs TinTracks. When she stopped laughing she reckoned we need a ''Horrified'' button We live about an hour north of Whitby so, pre mobility problems, used to get over there a couple of times a month. Damned seagulls have a serious attitude problem there. One of 'em pinched my mates iced cream straight out of his hand then circled and plopped just to say missing him. We go to Grosmont station cafe for coffee and cake now. Not so many of the winged blighters there and it's a bit closer and I can also put the world to rights chinwagging with my mate Dave Edge at Dave's Trains, always a pleasure. Cheers, Rich
  2. https://www.brmna.org/xrefs.shtml Some useful stuff and links here. Rich
  3. http://s548745873.websitehome.co.uk/msrsourcev2/magdate/RM_-_2.html#e36 I'm not sure how accurate they are but according to the above link you should find some plans for the BWT in the Sept 85 RM. Click on 1985 and scroll down to Sept. Should be able to find a copy on Ebay. Some Ebay sellers put up a picture of the contents page so you can double check. Hope this helps, Rich
  4. Good old fashioned modelling. Love it ! Thanks, Rich.
  5. The last Wrenn 8F I bought (6/7 years ago) cost me £18.00 as a scrapper. Got in running in less than an hour and converted to 3 rail in another hour. Maybe I should buy this box to make my life complete? (PS just asked my beloved Margaret re possible box purchase, regretfully her reply would not be allowed to be repeated in civilised company. I respect her opinions and her big stick) Regards . Rich
  6. ERm please can we 'ave a ''very funny'' button
  7. Erm..... a small observation from a simple Yorkshire lad. The piccie is of a Castle tender and the description is one o'they Bulleid doins called Bodmin. I are right confused.🙃
  8. In the description he says it's clockwork (which it clearly isn't) maybe he can't find the , non existant, key😁 Rich
  9. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404597987960?hash=item5e33eb5a78:g:TXkAAOSw47dlRi5Z&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4NF3T45tqI4FyVec32gtQUQUPXrlqvU3j I nearly spilt me beer reading the detailed description. Quite apart from the bits that are just plain wrong ''1923/1947'' ?? or ''built to run on the 2 rail system'' when the 3 rail track is staring the writer in the face This is the most sacccharin load of borrox nonsense I've come across. Cheers all, Rich
  10. Yep you're right. Packed up a bit too high at the front and the whole lot slopes down towards the cab. Would make a nice 3 rail conversion for me if the decimal point could be shifted a bit, Being a Dublo lad I always think a loco looks ''naked '' without a cab full of motor😉 Regards, Rich
  11. Just a few small points. Frank Hornby died in September 1936, two years before the Dublo range was introduced and about 25 years before the production Deltics hit the ECML so I would say ''not guilty mlud''in the case of the missing 10'6'', or so, from the Dublo Co Co. model and it's likely he had very little to do with Dublo at all. I'm happy to furnish you with the names of 2 likely suspects in Frank's son Roland Hornby who took over as chairman of The Meccano Company on Frank's death and one Mr F. Dale who was certainly MD in the late 1950s Dublo 3 rail R1 is 15'' radius measured across the center rails, not 13'' The R2 curves are a staggering 17.284'' As has already been said the Dublo Co Co has a metal die cast body. There's no mention of a plastic version in the Foster ''bible''. He does however state that, towards the end, some locos had plastic bogie sideframes. Finally your story about playing with knitting needles and making choo choo noises stirred some memories. Taliking to my 93 year old mother she reckons I used to play with my gran's curlers doing the exact same thing as you.!! Cheers, Rich
  12. There's a few howlers in the description. eg, ''4-6-2 wheel configuration'' and '' and a tender for added realism''!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers, Rich.
  13. Yes. I've sold stuff on facebook. Quite easy to set up and your allowed 10 pictures per listing. You, of course, have to decide if you're prepared to post stuff or stick to local cash on collection. When my elderly mother decided to move into a care center I cleared her house of furniture and appliances (good quality mostly only a year or two old) using FB market place. You do get idiots and time wasters and no shows but if memory serves the whole lot cleared in about 2 weeks. More recently I cleared out all my old Scalextric and 1/32 USA car kits using FB. I listed about 10 or 15 kits and a quite a few people showed interest. One guy came along to pick up a few kits and I mentioned that I had more stuff to list. He ended up buying the lot, about £800 worth. I guess I was just lucky. If your prepared to post you can use Ppal or bank transfer. I'm shortly going to clear out my H0 scale Marklin collection and will try a few Items, say 10 or so, in job lots, to see what the local interest is. I always mention that I have much more to list to try to create interest in the unlisted items. I'd say give it a go, what's to loose? Hope this is of use to you, Regards, Rich
  14. Yes as far as I recollect. There used to be a potted history on their website. I've just had a quick look and if you click the '' about us''button you get page not found. They've recently updated their website so that history bit seems to have vanished. I've often thought it a bit odd to move from IOW up here to smoggyland. ( I live about 20mins from them) Found this blurb on the net, '' Vectis is a specialist auction house for toys and collectables. Founded by Roger and Jill Mazillius on the Isle of Wight in 1988, it now has a saleroom at Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees. As well as its regular sales, Vectis also offer Train and Toy sales from the Benn Hall in Rugby.'' Regards, Rich.
  15. Hi. Vectis was founded in 1988. Started off as a shop on the IOW. Regards, Rich
  16. Hi, apologies for my late reply. TBH I didn't use the chassis as I got side tracked into other things. As received the chassis had the motor glued at a bit of an angle off centre to the chassis. The chassis itself appeared to be ''made'' from some sort of conduit type of stuff. The motor worm ''sort of'' meshed with the drive gear and the motor seemed to be ok and reasonably controllable. I couldn't be pestered to return it so It ended up getting chucked in with the spare motors as a ''one day'' project to strip down and use on a home made chassis. Peters spares has some reasonably priced BoB wheels . I don't know if they'll fit your axles. If you go on his website (Not the ebay one) and tap bob into the search box, then select price low to high they pop up in the first 50 or 60 items. Hope this helps, Regards, Rich
  17. In interesting option that's been on my mind for a while. One solution for motorising the old railbus kit is to use that 'orrible Lima DB diesel shunter that they tried to pass off as a Clayton years ago. There's a great article on the net about such a conversion but I can't find at the moment. In one of the pictures you can see that I've used one of the Lima chassis to power a PIKO railbus body I had lying about. Bi colour leds added for headlights and Marklin 3 rail pickup A few years ago I came by a stash of french ''autorail'' H0 scale models (pictured) and hit on the idea of using micro scalex motors. I reckon if your careful you could get away with drilling out and transfering the drive gear wheel to the new axle and, as you said, somehow making a plastikard frame for the motor. In the autorail picture you can see a plastikard 4 wheel chassis that I bought off ebay(still available) The guy selling them sells various palstic motorised chassis for those 00 scale diecast tram models. I'm inspired to have another go at one or two of these. Regards, Rich
  18. Hi. That's a lovely looking A4 repaint mate. We nipped over to the NYMR for coffee and cake last week. They were running SNG up and down between Grosmont and the engine shed so I got a few bits of vid and some pics. The colour blue on SNG looks to be very much like on your model. As for paint stripping. I used to use Nitromors up to about 10 years ago for stripping old Dinky/Corgi etc toy cars but then changed over to using caustic drain cleaner crystals at £2.75 for 500gms.( dissolve in water) Available from our local handy man shop. Sometimes turns up in the pound shop. It'll have the paint off old Dublo tinplate carriages in no time. It will also strip diecast locos but sometimes leaves a white residue behind. I get round this by giving the loco a wipe with turps or similar a little while before spraying the undercoat.( I use a rattle can etch primer from the car shop). The caustic will also take the paint off plastic models. I've not had any damage to any plastic in the ten years I've been using it. After use the caustic can go down the drain. Like Nitromors, caustic is nasty nasty stuff and PPE should be worn, and safety instructions followed . Always add crystals to water, not water to crystals. If I get a paint that won't shift I'll resort to old fashioned brown Dettol. It takes a while to work but can be filtered and re used. Very much enjoying your posts. Please keep 'em coming Regards, Rich.
  19. That is, probably, the most horrifying HD repaint I've ever seen, and on a Cobo if you please!! I will have nightmares for a week!!😉 I've an old 3 railer that I was lucky enough to pick up about 30 years ago, it's playworn but not too bad so I'm happy to leave as is. On the other hand I've a spare body that has been given a grotty makeover by a previous owner which may,one day, end up in blue hauling some repainted blue subs. (too many ideas as usual) Regards, Rich.
  20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPITRgmZulw Here's a link to a vid by Marklin of Sweden (in English). Like Dava he soaks twigs in glycerine (and alcohol!) Regards, Rich
  21. I've a couple of those old Trix Hunt class diecast bodies and 2 or 3 plastic bodies from Hornby. Somewhere in the tuit bin I started to motorise one of the Trix bodies with a hacked down HD R1 chassis using maybe HD Duchess driving wheels (or bigger,I need to check dimensions). I'm a 3 railer so would also have to fit a skate pickup under the tender or a home brewed one under the loco. https://www.lner.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6335&start=15 I found the above article on the LNER forum regarding a conversion to ''The Morpeth'' which was an inside cylinder experiment. Might have a go at this using the Hornby bodies. Regards, Rich
  22. Agreed. Another mispronunciation that annoys me and Mrs TinTracks is drawing pronounced as drawring. Every time that McCloud bloke off Grand Designs or Paul off Flog It refer to ''drawrings'' I have to restrain her from throwing her metal specs case at the telly. Mind you up here in the frozen north we do tend to miss off the g from the end. ''drawin'' Sorry for possible OT Regards. Rich
  23. Me and the ''lads'' still play those songs on a regular basis. Meet up in a local pub once a week. Mind you at 70 years old I'm by far the youngest in the band! 😅 Regards (Rockin') Rich
  24. http://www.hornbyguide.com/year_details_pricelist.asp?yearid=64 Hi. According to the above the Triang R152 was thrust upon us in 1956. According to the book by Michael Foster on the history of HD the Dublo version was first announced in the December 1960 Meccano Magazine. Dublo 2 rail version arrived on the market first followed in May 1961 by the 3 rail version. Regards, Rich
  25. Yes it's a daft price. It looks like this is the last one as he's sold 2 !!!!. I wonder if they were sold for this price? BTW the ad says it's for Vol3 but the picture is of Vol2 Cheers, Rich.
