  1. Good to see the layout for the 1st time yesterday, I love the atmosphere it creates and really impressed with the weathering and all the junk laying around the place. Thanks to the guy operating at the time for chatting and explaining a few bits. Really enjoyed it. Steve.
  2. Had a great day at the show yesterday. I was there early and thought it was a lot better organised with the snake que allowing more of us to wait inside. Didn't mind the bag search and I must mention a security bloke who was explaining what was going on, giving out facts about Ally Pally and generally interacting with the crowd, to me he was how event security should be, well done to him. Thought there were more bigger layouts this year, really enjoyed Calcutta Sidings 2 and got a couple of bagain books and a DJM J94. I was really impressed with Leighton Buzzard, hard to belive it is 70 years old!!!!! I also really liked 59th and rust, great urban atmosphere. Friday Bridge was great too and deserves a mention. There's alot more I enjoyed and came away glad I decided to go. Well done to all involved. Steve.
  3. The World is a Ghetto - George Benson
  4. Children of the Ghetto - The Real Thing
  5. Trusting Heart - The Tramps
  6. Looking good Alan, I think a flat roof will look ok and I agree about the walthers kits they are really versatile. Steve.
  7. Nice set of photo's Jack, the black locos really look the part. What colours have you used? I'm trying to weather a black diesel and I'm not finding it easy I must admit! I think I've gone too far where as your loco's look understated, which I think, is an art to get right. I really like the effects on the red buffer beam, looks fantastic. Steve.

    Great stuff Chaz. Steve
  9. I'm a bit happier with the other side although the fibreglass pen seemed to polish the paint work instead of scratch it, I ended up using a brush and thinners to remove the powders. Think I've managed to rescue this side using the same method of removing the powders with a brush. I'll leave well alone for a couple of days now. Steve.
  10. That van body looks great, I'd love to know some more about your techniques. Steve.
  11. I was taking the powders of using a fibre glass pen and in places it was actually burnishing the model giving a bit of a sheen, also on the window bit, ducket?, the varnish I put on to allow the powders to stay had not stuck to the original paint work so a big chunk came off :-( I've tried to put powders back on and it all looks a bit messy now, not sure how to rescue this. Steve.
  12. Put my powders on the brake van and sealed with a VERY LIGHT coat of varnish. Steve.
  13. Thanks Nick, there's some good pictures on there! I'm off to Ally Pally on Sat so I might pick up some other spray varnishes. Steve.
  14. Been trying your techniques Rob and when you say a light pass with the spray varnish you mean LIGHT, it doesn't take much to lose the variation in colour! Steve.
  15. Always good to see more photo's Marc thanks for posting. I had the pleasure of seeing it at one of the RMweb days, it really conveys a dark gloomy atmosphere, fantastic little layout. Steve.
  16. Loving the videos Andy and showing the fiddle yard is a great idea. Any chance of panning round 360 degrees to show the whole of your empire? Steve.
  17. I wasn't planning on going this year but I've got a bit of spare time but, unfortunately, not a lot of cash! Can only get there on Sat so I hope it's not too busy, I'm looking forward to seeing the layouts and hope to catch up with Friday Bridge and 59th and Rust, which I've never seen before. Steve.
  18. I've added some weathering powders but I think the finish looks a bit flat, I'm not sure what to do to lift it, maybe some oily washes around the engine panels? Steve.
  19. Nice work Jerry, I like the idea of a small halt. I think it would look good as a through station with maybe a Heljan railcar or a class 121 running through. Steve.
  20. Nice videos, good luck with your move, look forward to seeing your layout grow. Steve.
  21. Thanks Rob, that explains everything. Nice photo, the loco looks great. Steve.
  22. Thanks Rob, that's what I did with the other half of the roof, I much prefer that effect. I'll try that with the can. Steve
  23. Weathered the other half using the same mix of Humbrol powders but, using a technique from a Humbrol 'how to' video I mixed them with thinners and Matt Cote, I hadn't given that bit of the roof any matt varnish first so I don't know if that made a difference but as you can see there's no texture at all. Steve.
