  1. Thank you. It is indeed the Hornby model, I wish a had a few more of them! I get what you mean about the handrails, I made some a while back for some Hornby 21t coal hoppers and lot's of trial and error and patience required! I could leave the Tope in that condition really, as they wouldnt have been around too long in the time frame I usually model but I wanted to tray and replicate something like this, maybe I'll do that on one side only.
  2. Also, in an attempt to id colours from photo's I made up this colour chart, not sure if it will help. I didn't realise how many 'rusty' paints I have!
  3. Started a bit of work on the Tope. I wanted a basic rusty colour before I put the scratches on so, using the time-honoured paint on wipe off method, I used thinned acrylic paint, Humbrol Matt 62 worked on one panel at a time. The effect is very subtle but I'm liking that as I usually go too far too soon!
  4. Thanks @NickL2008 How did you replace the handrails, I've not decided how to do that yet.
  5. The Dogfish have had some basic weathering, and one has had transfers added, both have had a couple of coats of matt varnish, so I'll leave them alone for a while now before any more weathering.
  6. Glad to have found Albert Street. I like the plan, it's similar to one of my layouts, and as @37114 said is fun to operate, and pretty versatile too! The 3rd rail looks good and must open up a few doors with rolling stock, is the platform long enough for a 2 car EMU? A fine looking layout, looking forward to Shenfield already!
  7. Really like that 47! At first glance it doesn't look like it's had too much done to it, then you look closer and see how subtle it all is. It all adds up to a very realistic looking loco 👍
  8. Great stuff! The faded bufferbeam is great too an excellent example of paint what you see.
  9. A fine pair of locos. I really like the 'leaks' from the bonnet doors!
  10. I did a trial with some talcum powder and after cleaning up the mess I'd made, decided the texture was a bit coarse for my liking, so I re sprayed the insides then tried again with the dust wash, looks no better to me that my first efforts! I might try and add some dybrushing with rust colours but I don't want to overdo that. My other half has said they look dusty, so maybe I'm getting there!
  11. That looks great, never seen that method to lower the ride height, what size plastruct did you use and how did you glue them on? I've had trouble finding anything to stick to Hornby's plastic!

  13. The scenic fiddleyard is such a great idea, looking really good 👍
  14. I've been spending way too much time on the wagon interiors but I can't seem to be satisfied with them. I've not found too many photos of hopper interiors. I like the first Dogfish I did but that's not like any pic I've seen! The few Seacow photos I've seen have a definitive line between where the ballast was filled to. I'll keep messing around with washes and powders until I'm happy.
  15. That looks so good! Was it enamels you use, and do you thin the paint at all?
  16. Mine too! Especially the sight of weathered locomotives!
  17. Must have missed that one! Did a search and apparently the track plan is very similar to this. Very intriguing, can't find any photo's but there was a thread on here on a layout based on the plan. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forums/topic/81764-webb-lane/
  18. Wow, you don't hang about! That looks different, think it suits it. 👍
  19. I've weathered the inside of this hopper using Humbrol enamel washes and MIG powders.
  20. Thank you @Davexoc, I hadn't seen that one!
  21. Can anyone confirm the numbers of Seacow, YGB, wagon numbers that carried a lighter grey livery, yellow stripe and black lettering and data panels. I've seen a caption in the excellent Modelling BR Engineering wagons bookazine that said the first 20 or so carried that livery, so that would be DB 980000 - 980020? I have seen a photo of DB 980023 and that was in the darker grey and white lettering. Many thanks.
