So Ruston Sidings is back home safe and sound and suitably adorned with it's badge, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, massive thanks to Tim for helping me out, he made it a lot easier. It was a great show with some fine layouts and modelling on show. The layout performed well as did the Rustons and the operating method worked out too, although most of the time I was just shuffling wagons around. I managed to get a few photo's later in the day when it was quieter.

Thank you so much for posting those photo's, I enjoyed myself and it was a pleasure to be in such esteemed company as yourself and Dave Tailby and to be opposite Dave Farmer, all inspirational layout builders. I liked the way you presented Novo Mesto and the research you've put into it, and the way you transported it!

Trackwork looks good, look forward to seeing it painted and weathered David. 👍

So Ruston sidings is all packed up and ready to go, looking forward to my first show, it's always a good show and this year looks no different. If anyone from here is going come and say hi, although the layout is so small it's prob easy to miss! Lol thanks Dave, look forward to seeing Top Yard, if I can get away from the layout and I think I am opposite Hillport so hopefully I'll get to see that. 😀

Hope I get a chance to have a look at Hillport, I think I am right opposite you with Ruston Sidings!

James Makin's Workbench - 1990s dirty diesels & grotty wagons

Superb looking wagons James, love the rust effects and scratches on the roof 😀 -
Always thought the English version would be along the lines of, downing 10 pints, lining up, shouting "come on then, who you looking at! you want some" and then end up fighting amongst themselves!

From someone who is hooked on the latest weathering products and methods, I love the description of your methods. The results you get are superb and the colours all complement each other, I'd like to move away from enamels too but struggle to find a better medium for making a wash, I want to try the odourless thinners and oil paints but even though there is no smell I still think they are toxic, but you are not noticing so much.

Thank you. I did from the sides, then airbrushed a mist over it again to give the impression the sides have been cleaned at some point. I'm enjoying the weathering, I like using the Powders a lot but the airbrush does give the even coating of soot and dirt I've seen in so many photos. Got to leave them alone for a few days now!

I put the Ruston away for a bit and fired up the airbrush this afternoon, all have had some Railmatch Frame Dirt on the underframe then a mix of Frame Dirt and Weathered Black on the sides and with more weathered black added to the mix the tops were done. Not sure what next, I guess some powders and also some grease effects on the underframes.

Thank you Rob. I do like working with the powders, I had a go at some airbrushing earlier which seemed a lot more scary!
-
Thank you Rob, do you still use the fibreglass pencil to work back any weathering on a loco? Guess I could but very gently.

Building another O gauge micro layout and weathering stock
sb67 replied to Nick G's topic in 7mm+ modelling
Love that van! Go to say as well, in the close up the trackwork looks superb too 👍 -
Started fading the paint on the Ruston using Sand and White weathering powder, the photo's show I need to work the powders in a bit more but it's a start. There's no work done anywhere else yet.

Charlie Strong Metals (and Watery Lane Sidings)

I've just realised that the Graphite Sticks come in different grades! The one I got is bone hard, do you know if that matters, I'm assuming the softer ones deposit more graphite? -
Thank you. I tried to make the track look run down, but that can interfere with the running sometimes. Something I'm currently ironing out. The show is here, https://ukmodelshops.co.uk/event/y2023/25472-MidEssexModelRailwayClub_Exhibition It's always a top show and well worth a visit.

Thank you, I'll give that a go. Thanks David. I'm looking forward to having a go at using powders only on the other Ruston.
