  1. I have access to it at the railway to take as many detailed shots required its just the roof that id need Flickr for since the tarp is on it and some missing detail removed from the loco at present during its restoration but it does help with research
  2. We are only allowed access to the cab on one end and nothing else unless the diesel group leader is around working on it
  3. Iv had to resort to using flickr to find shots of the top of the 47 before the engine was removed and the tarp erected to figure out the roof boiler type https://flic.kr/p/bsABNA https://flic.kr/p/bUKhUn But I might be wrong but it might be the wrong side I'm looking at perhaps
  4. Can I ask what is the roof boiler port and where to look for it
  5. Cheers for the info the more I look the more my North Star has the same or similar body to the one I want to model so gives me something to look out for on the RES 47/4 body shell I eventually purchase. no point buying the gear to start the project without the shell first but time to keep digging and have a look at the underframe now on it. A question who would do the antenna and was it on both ends or just the end I photographed today
  6. Been down to the railway today to do some work on our project and managed to snap some more pics of it. The Diesel group guy was there and explained when i asked it sat at Crewe after withdrawal then later purchased by a guy and brought here but my weird question he wasn't able to answer is why has it got 47/4 stickers (see photo) on it when its numbered as 47/5 Anyway here the link to the drive iv uploaded the photos I have from the past and today to sift through or if you like for your viewing https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1UDzDvDhBC3U1RBWVVCMEszSkk?usp=sharing
  7. I pulled out the 2 IC 47s in the collection earlier in the week and was researching around but with my limited knowledge I couldn't figure out the differences on either of them to see if they where suitable for the shell swap to the one I want to model. I intend to model 47524 seen many times in the yard at Churnet Valley Railway under restoration to which the 2 in my collection are 47487 and 47613 both Hornby. To my knowledge either might be the closest but I bet someone will say the chassis is totally different on the 47/5 which will require me to get 3rd 47. Iv been looking for a RES body shell for ages to the correct specs as the one I want to model with plates and if I remember correctly Fox may do the plate.
  8. Was down here for an event and walking around the town behind Waitrose is the Network Rail training centre with many locos around and such. My question is what is Paddock Woods purpose and what are the items in the pics What's it say
  9. I saw James Makin's excellent post on weathering shipping containers http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/44066-james-makins-workbench/?p=2779663 and it got me thinking I should have a go. Iv not found the right containers I want for the layout or scene been trawling the net looking for Hapag Lloyd, Maersk or NYK ones and have a few pics of some local ones to work with as a start. The bottom shot was of the fire escape ladder but it does show a smack section of the container next to it but was wondering where people tend to buy Shipping containers from or where would I find for sale the ones I'm after. They would make nice additions to the preserved railway or my bus diorama to spruce them up more and maybe I could weather up end of life intermodal wagons with a container or 2 on them in a siding on the preserved railway like a cameo for an operator storing them
  10. The battery operated train sets you see in the shops that run on plastic track
  11. I saw this train set in BM Bargains today and wondered how do you convert the wagons and coaches to be able to run on a model railway. Is it worth getting these just to run on metal track around your layout or should people steer clear of them as there cheap and no detail at all
  12. Bought myself a CP GP35 by Bachmann with DCC onboard from the American show at Crewe earlier in the year but have been trying to get it to stop sounding so rough and loud. Was also at the show on the lookout for similar matched coaches to my baggage car to no luck plus it somehow needs the coupling lower to work with the locomotives. Been on the lookout of late for a CP flatcar to put my recently acquired Volvo digger onto to mimic a chained down one going through on its way to be swapped out of the consist into an engineers train to go up into the snowbound areas of Canada for ice clearance
  13. Friday we went up to Froghall and spent a few hours pulling bits and pieces off the other permaquip machines down there and took some pics of the sorry state there in plus the ballast hoppers are located down there. If anyone know what the ballast wagons are and if anyone makes them i might add them in They also had sets of bogies stored down there which can anyone tell me what they are we had a quick walk sofar down the track and i found my next project to add to the consist - BR MK1 GUV http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=3971 The Buffet car project is on hold for a while till progress is made on the one I am modeling it after
  14. Set is BR 80030 MK1 RK http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=2078 BR 4779 MK1 SO http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1431 - Would I be able to get a dining car inerior to fit in this since its converted to oneish BR 1817 MK1 RMB http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=2703 I am concidering another 2 vehices to add to the rake to make it a 5 car consist but am open to suggestions for what to add
  15. Been doing some research into the project and have identified which coach it is in the CVR fleet BR RMB no. E1878 "J.R. Burgess". Found more info here http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=2703 which helps. It suggests commonwealth bogies which I'm not great at identifying this so does the donor already have these. The site also list the others to help in acquiring them
  16. Was there sunday morning volunteering when the fire brigade returned so I know things about the fire but all CVR staff and volunteers are to keep quiet about it but if I rememer they do have one of these on the Moorlander dining train I think in the same config not sure. Im trying to breakup my stock being all BR Blue overkill on my preserved model railway so seeing this outside inspired me to try and replicate one of Churnet Valley's rake
  17. The Hornby buffet car I'm assuming I'd need to change a few details like trucks and such but it's the donor Here is the coach I am going to use the donor to recreate even though is still under restoration and missing bits it's worth a go I have a fair idea what livery it will carry but will need to double check when I'm next volunteering or ask someone I know for info
  18. Bought another Mk1 Buffet car to use as a donor for a project. It all started when outside was the coach from CVR coach shed in primer that gave me the inspiration to finally get back into modelling and actually starting somnething instead of on paper. Buffet 1805 will become whatever livery I find out there painting the coach into then will grab the remainder of the train to create as and when. Will post pics of the coach im copying tomorrow when downloaded from the camera
  19. You need to get the latest Model Railroader see below it might interest you
  20. Not alot is happening spent last night with a running session upstairs with the american stock out on the tracks had loads of fun now my CSX is not powered anymore doing double headers with my CP maroon GP7 looking for an action red machine thats cheap to complete the set but also had the F7 out towing my baggage car around in a shunting move also the ATSF Plymouth switcher made an appearance on engineering services. Dtill need a few more pieces of rolling stock to complete the set and fill the yard nicely round the back of the scenics. The 47 project has stalled as i try and find bits n bobs and time to start it also the 33 project has stalled yet again trying to locate suitable locos to do basic livery changes on. In other new back to volunteering at CVR tomorrow which im always excited about mostly because its fun and gets me out of the house and is a way to find new or exiting project to look at for future things on the model railway such as the pair of 33s and trying to find a cheap RES bodyshell to replace un named IC 47 into RES Gestae like the one CVR has in storage if anyone can help. I kinda get drawn to steam on the railway but am sort of a diehard diesel fan tbh steam dosnt exite me enough like the roar of an engine throbbing away under the body. Learnt last time dad was there he got to drive a class 33 Sophie around i am well jelous about it i mean id like to do tht sometime or get my hands on the 47 and do something with it to progress it without being told what to do. Maybe even a project for the railway to keep me occupied and use my IT skills such as scanning the 2 boxes of photos i saw on the side of brightside when i was last there then putting them into a gallery or something online linked to the railway as an archive or such that could be used as a donation thing if you wanted to buy prints like some sites iv seen offer it. Anyway theres loads to do lots to play with stuff to do on the model railway and the big scale one too but I am hoping we can get involved in an event such as like the bus event would be nice to volunteer for as i also like collecting bus & coach models as another hobby of mine have lots of them out in a depot on the scenic board in my room i take pics of occasionally for a facebook group sometime mix the preserved traffic in with it since it was a railway diorama to start with and has track. A note to CVR if members are on the forums couldnt you get like 2nd hand concrete slabs and put them in the yard to have an even surface and hard standing to do work on locos outside when the shed is full such as Sophies fuel tank job or the transmission in the 04 and would fix the muddy boggy issued in the yard im sure somewhere like Cheshire Demolition might have cheap stock to do something like this
  21. Project has come back on the workbench but cheers for the info supplied. Got the CSX out today found more screws id missed to dissasemble the metal frame them spent a couple of minutes desoldering the wires from the bogies then spent an age putting it back together. Now on the lookout for a bodyshell to fit it in either maroon or the early CP action red arrow livery. Havnt bought much stock in a while apart from a vehicle here n there for scenics but may get back into it now summer is approaching
  22. Spotted this funky OCA during a boredom search at work today https://flic.kr/p/m1qrPG
  23. So Today i lernt that Captain Charles one of the 33 was in to finish off the tedious project of replacing the cab rot to think these are all wooden cabs is amazing considering things like 25s and 27s are metal construction. They spend the day stripping out the cab ready for the replacement and fixes to go into to return it to service. I didnt go as work beconed but dad dis and was telling me about things and how the project was going all i kow is one end has been done previously and the other end is being worked on. Brightside I helped on the first time there was outside along with the american loco that was behind it in the shed. 33s kinda impress me and it kind of makes me want to tailor my layout upstairs to a preserved railway with a name yet to be decided if i go ahead with one. Fleet would be BR Black LNER V2 Jinty and J50 alongside 2 Intercity 47s BR Blue 27 31 35 and 04 shunter whti a mix of BR liveried coaching stock plus the single Pullman. It impresses me how preserved railways such as the CVR operate the equipment they have to a set standard and such tight schedules kinda make me want to set up my own timetables for more running sessions to become more active than posting project after project idea on here and never doing anything with it. As i progress more with volunteering with the group the idea of the preserved model railway may grow on me and get to a point where i say yeah lets do it and come up with a suitable name. It may also spur me on to go out and purchase the point work to complete the TMD or MPD if there is a difference between them and get the yard work done before scenic installation can begin and allow me to get back into enjoying model railways. A weekend cleanup of the mess on and around the railway resulted in british away american out which i hadnt run in ages but sill got my CSX issue which i was trying to convert to dummy if anyone has any help. So for now we shall see what happens in the future for the layout and volunteering
  24. Cheers its kinda spurred on old modeling projects back onto the drawing board plus some hunting of items to stave away the boredom for the real things
  25. So during Churnet Valley Railways volunteer open day we went along to check it out and signed up. The weekend after we went along and was sanding abd painting one side of the back of Brightside in the shed having fun. We expect to be down there on the easter weekend doing something on the railway but this has spurred on several projects I happened to post about on the forums mainly the class 33 project. The 33 has been reborn and has become 2 locos 33102 "Captain Charles" and 33021 "Sophie" having access to the real things kinda helps with the project. On a side note was fishing around the web about there 47 in RES livery namely 47524 which I kinda itching to get stuck in on and return it to service but my trawlings on the net foudn it was named RES Gestae which spurred me on to try and find the plates removed from it in 1996 to reunite with it bu thatt may take a long time and alot of emails to find if they still exist but projects come and go although got my pair of IC 47s out of the loft to buy detailing kits for since i think that class is kinda cool But anyway lets see what easter brings for volunteering on the railway and hopefuilly get my hands on the beast to return it to service althogh Tamworth Castle stored behind it looks tasty too being a class 25 but one day
