  1. Away to the depot open day at Crewe this weekend and thought id resurrect my CVR project. I have also decided to sort of make a semi realistic rake with BR RK 80030 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=2078 (need) Pullman car 348 (more detailing to do) RMB 1878 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=2703 (need to paint) SO 4779 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1431 (may swap interior to dining spec to semi match)(Need) What would be the best match for the maroon they are using and the cream on the SO. Will be collecting items for it to have a bash in August when the events calendar is emptyish also how would one identify a Mk1 RK when looking for one to acquire for the project
  2. Justin over at scalemodelscenery did some TV areal recently if you inquire he might add these older ones to the collection with enough info
  3. might be of interest https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AHM-5131-HO-DIESEL-SWITCHER-MONON-23-BLACK-GOLD-WITH-LIGHTS-BOXED-OO907/113662415239?hash=item1a76ced187:g:xEsAAOSwUnJccYaz
  4. would be cool didn't realize there where differences but would be useful for the diorama
  5. Has anyone considered doing these NYK 40ft containers in either the NYK logistics or the NYK lines liveries. One of these would go well with a project i am working on for a diorama and would probably sell quite well NYK Lines , NYK Logistics Blue
  6. Canadian Pacific S3 looking like a war zone after purchasing it yesterday
  7. Picked this up at Crewe today says Life Like on the chassis and from googling its an Alco S3 but need some tlc wonder where to start
  8. Airfix in the early days had shocking quality control and fit but over the years it seems they have improved considerably with the quality and fit of there later kits. I was hoping with the vintage kit series there would be a lot of people making bodies for the likes of the matador to suit say the bus collector market for example or the railway modelers but sadly no. I have not purchased a Hornby product in ages there prices seem ott for new models when you can go onto ebay and get the same new release significantly cheaper from a retailers eBay store or go to a different manufacturer and get a better all round model of the same thing for maybe slightly less price with more bells and whistles
  9. If this is still going I have a fair few shots of 47524 in RES at the Churnet Valley Railway if there of any interest I can dig them out to post. Took a fair few for my own project someday
  10. Started adding things to my list for Macclesfield Model Rail Show and the event in Crewe next month but was wondering if anyone knew or had pics of MOW road vehicles as i have considered adding one or 2 to the scenic side of the layout with some engineers when i get round to finding the right figures
  11. On the workbench is 8409 getting masked up on one side to do the yellow rains is humbrol 24 a good yellow to use. Another question 8411 has white side cab window frames was this true on the rest of the GP7s at the time
  12. A quick Session this morning before work F7A 1404 was shunted into the siding as it failed on the passenger service After shunting F7A 1401 GP7 8409 takes over on the passenger service
  13. Cheers for the info I have been contemplating cutting the baseboard down keeping the model part but turning it into an L shape in the corner of the room to make more space and use sort of cassettes to bring items in and out. I have been contemplating the following options 1) Since the scenic side will pass through the tunnel end with the L shape I have considered a small number of sidings maybe have a railway station (dibber25 do you have anymore of the station in your 2nd share shot with the RDC), May even add something like a timber loading yard or some kind of extra industry or i might build the full grain kit and use the small space for something else to do with boxcars 2) A station and a depot maybe have the station in the front and the small depot in the back or a small maintenance depot with a shed 3) A simple freight yard with a small portacabin and a yard maybe a fueling point between one of the tracks what are your ideas on these or have your own ideas to share
  14. Are the Stobart ones different in any way
  15. Been researching this for a while but what other non standard conversions have been done to Mk3's like 96374 the gen set for the canned nightstar service I have seen pics of excluding Network rails flying banana. Iv not come across many non standard conversions to these coaches outside of Network rail using them in modified forms such as the pantograph on the roof etc
  16. Found this on a memory stick from dads photos from super train 2014 if anyone knows what number and type it is

  18. So after last years awesome day out at the DRS open day in Crewe someone on Facebook posted that Virgin Trains where having an open day in Crewe this year and decided not much is on the calendar for June this year id go. Planning to purchase a ticket next month in anticipation of going to Crewe again noting its right next door to the train station. Has anyone been before and do you just walk down the road next to the station at Crewe or do you have to speak to Virgin staff as the DRS one was walk down to the depot up to the gate buy your ticket and your in easy process. On a side note what is there to see at the depot anything like stored items and such around Crewe or is it mainly the depot shed and I wonder what we will expect to be there to look at on display
  19. Been doing some research during my lunch break at work and have noted the following i may need to tackle on a model GP7 8409 - noted from pics its missing the yellow handrails and yellow on the steps The other below are notes on whats ongoing with the project I noticed the kadee on one end of the dome car and possibly seaview need attention Need to order up the trucks and kadees next month to finish off the Thrall all door project Purchase points for the fiddle yard to finish and replace older points ready for purchase of a power supply so I can mount the point motors
  20. These 2 arrived today from Ebay and look smart behind the baggage car iv had for a while just one more to hind to complete it
  21. Anyone know of a 70s style grain unloading facility that could be modeled to spot grain cars at
  22. So I have finally got back to the projects piling up for attention on the workbench for quite a while. The coaching stock has been receiving painted springs and the blue thing plus the research on the various interiors of the BR blue MK1/2 and 3s plus the IC Mk3s has been going slowly in some departments or coach types but progress has been made. The Pullman got red springs and the chosen blue is too dark so needs to be changed to a lighter shade alongside the Mk3s getting yellow springs and the mk1/2s still to receive red springs and yellow caps the bogies on all coaching stock will be toned down with some weathering powders in the future, The Mk3s will gain a full interior paint (pending suitable pics) and lighting at some point if it works I may add to the Canadian coaching stock i own and my Hornby 47 North star will receive attention at some point on the workbench for detailing and paint. The other 47 in the fleet is awaiting a suitable RES 47 shell to progress the CVR project alongside the 2nd RMB part of that project alongside acquiring another 2 coaches to match. The LNER V2 requires acquisition of new name plates and a crest for one side of the tender and to somehow remove the front spring to fix derailing On the Canadian front bid on 2 more coaches for the fleet these will be checked for interior details and lighting maybe added if i win. The Thrall all door fleet one needs decals and trucks ordering with all requiring kadees to be purchased and added alongside the white boxcar which will receive maybe a repaint and new decals adding. The Grain fleet is progressing nicely on the lookout for one or 2 more a slab sided and another cylindrical in the future alongside some weathering on the trucks when the weathering powders come out to play for the British lot. I still need to sort out the noisy loco within the fleet and fix the running and detail the F7A & F7B units to pull the coaching stock. Alongside this the rear of the layout will finally receive attention this year to move it along and allow for more storage for the fleet. I have created a spreadsheet to keep track of the actual fleet and non fleet stock i have gathered over the years and is a good way of deciding what items are left to add to complete the fleet and have decided the sort of industries the layout will serve using boxcars, tank cars and thrall all door alongside a flatcar and a gondola plus an extra shunter type locomotive to complete. Pics will be posted from time to time as progress is made in either my projects topic or the 1970s Canadian Pacific topic and will keep you updated on the layout
  23. So on my to do list will post pics up tonight on progress BR MK1 - Interior, paint springs red and the blue thing plus the wheel caps yellow BR MK2 - Interior, paint springs red and the blue thing plus the wheel caps yellow MK3 - Interior, yellow springs Pullman - Pick a lighter blue all will be toned down with weathering in the future
  24. How would you improve the Hornby mk3 or mk1/mk2 with a bit of detailing well the older ones
