  1. Picked up this book on my travels to events recently and has some interesting photos within the Canadian section to look at or model the loads
  2. Looking at the site id be more interested in them if they had a brief description to go with them to get an idea of them but its still an interesting book to put on a list
  3. Iv been pondering this question before but in passenger carrying service within the BR/IC era how many interior variation where there on a standard passenger coach that could be modeled. Also on the subject of interiors what did the inside of the restaurant car look like as i cant seem to find much around these. Also from the attached pic of what stock i have what would the interiors looked like and what do I exactly have Both IC Restaurant cars have recently been taken apart to get the interior out to paint it when theirs images available and any info on the sort of humbrol or tamyia paint matches. I thought id make a start on interior detailing and painting these as what you see in the pic plus my 04 shunter is what left not packed away in boxes since i am more into american but like to get the odd British thing out for a session. I have my eye on one or 2 more to add to the set if there are variations these depending what they are will receive the interior variation mods.
  4. During the Start of our Norfolk trip last Friday we stumbled upon these set of gates whilst waiting in the traffic ques. Then this dayglow orange network rail employee comes out and closes the gate so we wait then a East Midland Trains multiple unit appears and then we realized its a main line the first time we have seen something like this pics bellow. My question is why are some of these hand operated and not automatic as a friend we stayed with Sunday near Cambridge said theirs a similar setup nearby him
  5. Been trawling Ebay to see what deals are out there to expand the collection and wondered any recommendations for books to have a look at
  6. Cheers for the info Nick and Jim been watching YouTube videos and its making me more and more want to put sound it 1401 as it sounds so sweet
  7. Heres a confusing question iv discovered doing some research why do some sites list 1401 as a FP9A and some FP7 was it rebuilt perhaps or something iv totally missed
  8. Had to tidy up the mess this morning from last nights session so grabbed this shot FP9A 1401 emerges from the tunnel on The Canadian duties
  9. Tonight's short running session A shot from on end of the layout Here we see GP7 8409 posing for the camera on grain duties GP35 8205 passes through on boxcar duties FP9A 1401 passes through deadheading back the depot
  10. Returned to this project finally after clearing some other non railway ones from the bench and have a question will a Lima body shell fit onto a Hornby chassis
  11. Cheers for the info Adrian on a side note is there anywhere in the UK to buy decals for these it wouldn't take much to gently remove the N's on the cylindrical hoppers for P's and change a number or 2 to reflect this I guess
  12. Will give it a go when i have more gear ordered i also didn't think the hopper was 70s purely because of the scheme it was carrying thought the scheme was a later one
  13. Been to the Crewe Heritage Centre's toy and train fair today lots of nice things to buy there but didnt end up buying much. One trader lost out on a sale and they didnt want to budge on a loco but a fun day out. First purchase was this Life Like trains thrall door box car in AP Lumber Produucts scheme. If anyone can suggest how I go about changing the couplings on it Then I found this Canadian grain hopper by Bachmann with this also being a bargain it was hard not to pass it up I doubt the grain hopper or the box car are right for the era but its hard not to pass on things at low bargain prices but we shall see what else i acquire tomorrow at the Macclesfield model rail show
  14. Hows the great container weathering project going and also hope you win an award
  15. Nice work there James on the coach it does pay to tackle the interior of these things to bring them alive. Iv noticed people don't bother as the train is moving around the layout but they forget stick it in a siding on the scenic part people can see inside or stationary at a station
  16. Got some questions on autoracks to consider getting one as a sort of cameo or a consist passing through as I have been collecting here and there Oxford Die-cast vintage American vehicles. 1) Have considered getting one or 2 and doing heavy weathering rusty style was this ever prototypical to run the open sided version of the era with hardly any paint tons of rust or did they scrap them before they ever got this far gone in service 2) What sort of vehicles would go well on one or 2 of these autoracks for the changeover period from maroon to action red in Canada 3) Did they ever operate these within a passenger train consist or was this a more modern concept outside my era
  17. A quick weathering question what sort of grime would you expect on the truck frames and what Humbrol or Tamiya number would you recommend to paint it in. Also another thing where would I acquire another push fit truck from fix the other side to be able to run it on the layout bought it as a weathering test bed to practice on but it looks so cool so decided to fix it up and run it on the layout. I have some SP boxcars in a box I haven't run in a while although from previous info in the topic I could use them as leased in for grain alongside the cylindrical hoppers or I might swap them for CP cylindrical hoppers or some more CP boxcars or other equipment haven't decided yet alongside some Vermont liveried boxcars
  18. Cheers just tidied it up with sone humbrol 186 ready for some roof weathering going to loosly base the roof weeathering on this FURX pne https://flic.kr/p/M3wjYy. I may even decal it up as that one and run it in a consist with my CP locos if anyone can point me to decals or a Canadian version liveried up
  19. Cheers Nick on a wagon subject picked this up cheap at a Crewe heritage center show but have no idea what it is. It dosnt look boxcar to me and i have no idea on what it is but for a cheap buy its not bad needs some fixing then test weathering and maybe something else
  20. Hi James was tidying up my faves on Flickr and came across these FGW green/gold Motorail from Long Marsh if your considering doing them. The HST looks quite smart in this livery you did that ended up in the magazine https://flic.kr/p/a5PS3s https://flic.kr/p/a5PRvQ https://flic.kr/p/a5PRQb https://flic.kr/p/a5M11X https://flic.kr/p/a5LZJT
  21. So what was the base livery of that loco before nature took its toll
  22. Hi Stephen it cane 2nd hand from a Canadian model shop in Calgary ages ago and there are marking on the bottom 42005 but that's about it. It also came with a single generator unit also do you know if there is a gp40-2 body shell for sale anywhere to fit a Bachmann model for CP in the maroon scheme or early action red arrow livery
  23. Anyone know the differences between a GP40-2 (CSX in my case) and a GP35 (Canadian Pacific in my case) as they look so similar its hard to tell the difference when looking at the body shells. Another question Canadian Pacific wise but any suggestions on a similar sized shunter to the SW1200/1500 in the 70s early 80s the Plymouth switcher in ATSF yellow is a stopgap as I only run that when I have the southern pacific boxcars out on the layout with the CSX machine ( I know SP is UP). The F7 or what I think it is still doesn't run so well was hoping to use it when id finished my 4-5 car CP passenger train but it hasn't run in a while and a question can you get glazing for it as the windows are just empty spaces (see photo) I feel it needs a few details added to it to bring it alive
  24. Nice looking conversion there on Mentor and an interesting thread. A small question you ever going to print out some stickers for yours pc and tv screens with info on them rather than become silver
